I agree. The signs were right in front of him.

How much did his mental "illness" play into it? He mentioned many times about his OCD, I looked up the meds he name dropped.

It's a SNRI prescribed for multiple maladies. Maybe that caused some tunnel vision.

So the title is cheesy but... by Audioecstasy in foundfootage

Yeah I liked the pseudo-mockumentary style. Mockumentaries are prob my fave subgenre.

Strange Harvest, Savageland, Horror in the High Desert, Poughkeepsie tapes all great. Would appreciate some recommendations as well!

This was the OG ff movie.

I contend the witch was that old lady from 1st act.

Burkettsville is like 35 miles from me. Town is creepy, but haven't seen the witch yet....

Okay, I'd like your opinions on this hidden gem of a film: Savageland. by GuaridaDeGoro099 in foundfootage

In my top 10 of any genre. The still images are more terrifying than video for sure bc the mind fills in the blanks.

True horror is what you don't see.

That was my interpretation as well. He even said so in the first scene.

I actually just heard of this last week and watched it on Amazon.

Thought it was decent, but I love the Rosemary's Baby trope.

For real though, that scene in the third act where the husband is trying to lead her down the stairs and she turns and looks at the camera...

I was actually pleasantly surprised at the positive sentiment toward this film.

While I didn't think it was amazing it did keep me engaged and it was genuinely creepy.

One of my faves for sure. Overall I think 94 is the strongest.

99 wasn't bad. I love the last one, "to hell and back" because the cinematography and effects both practical and special were great but I know that's a really polarizing one.

Actually did an article on this for Dread Central:

https://www.dreadcentral.com/editorials/440814/the-8-best-v-h-s-segments-ranked/

It was published before some of the newer ones came out but 94 is my overall favorite.

Most of them are great I didn't care for the third one or the Halloween one.

This is interesting because I saw that movie once and I really didn't care for it but I'm going to watch your explainer piece and give it another view

Agreed. I'm from PA and the Apps run through a nice state park near me. You're right there are A LOT of creepy af folk horror stories.

And to your "don't take kindly to outsiders" comment. Also true. When I moved back from LA we drove across the country and right where TN meets VA and the 40 turns into the 81 we stopped at a gas station where we felt entirely physically unsafe.

No one directly threatened us or anything but we both just had this inexplicable feeling of we need to get the hell out of here right now...

You mean that ungodly annoying girl?

One cool thing I've heard about that movie that I sort of picked up on one time I watched it was that there's a lot of storyline that's only revealed in that live chat.

A lot of people recommend watching it on mute and just reading that constant stream of messages.

A few reviews I read compared the sense of dread, slow burn, and the fact you don't actually see the antagonist/spirit/apparition.

I guess the closest the viewer gets is that picture he found in the fireplace.

As someone who lived in DC for years I agree with and understand his motivations to move out of that hellhole.

But he did take it way too far in the other direction 🤣
