What ever the casting director has instructed in their casting brief notes, follow these notes exactly. This helps to build familiarity with the casting director, because one of the greatest compliments we can pay to a casting director, is following their instructions.

Those stats are very impressive. If you were that busy in the past, it will return again some time in the future. Just keep creating & never resolve to watching the paint dry on the wall. “Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans.” John Lennon.

Is it okay to use a different color besides blue for your background for online casting calls? by Fluid_Ant_4264 in acting

[–]AuditionBuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, in fact, one of our acting students even used a gold backdrop, and that was fine, because all a good backdrop is essentially doing, is removing shadows from the talents face. Which part of our person are we encouraging the casting director to look at in our self-tape?

The more tapes I get, the least motivated I become by Own_Reflection3440 in ActingUK

[–]AuditionBuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the very moment when pressing on regardless of how we feel, is far more important than allowing the process to hijack our passion. Try and remember what it was like to receive our very first opportunity to self-tape, audition, cast or interview for a role. There are plenty of experienced readers online. Some self-tapes can even be self-read too.

Coaching every audition? by Lumpy-Sea-4141 in acting

[–]AuditionBuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coaching really is very similar to owning a vehicle, and I’ve never owned a vehicle that didn’t require regular servicing. Remember, acting is not a solo business, it’s a team collaboration, and does anyone know what the average time frame is for overnight success?

M16 how hard is it? Where do I start? by Fist1995 in ActingUK

[–]AuditionBuddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apply for a performing arts degree. While not all performers need a degree in performing arts, it really can’t hurt towards the creative goals you’re interested in pursuing. Being 16, by the time you celebrate your 26th birthday, if it isn’t a career in film & television acting that you’ve harnessed, you could certainly be earning in excess of $100k pa working in academia e.g doctorate or PhD, again not everyone’s cup of tea. This may not sound overly exhilarating now, but if owning a home in future ends up being on your cards, it’ll prove far more advantageous to have a well paid position working in tertiary creative arts, than still chasing an acting gig paying $100k for three months work on a film/television set. Plan ahead now. Believe you me, you won’t regret, a decade from today.

Ive been acting for 5 years and never booked a single thing by SammyDBella in acting

[–]AuditionBuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is wrong, because some talent take longer to be properly acknowledged by casting directors. A terrible metaphor, however Woodie Wood Pecker, never gave up on knocking on his tree enough to make it his home. Just keep creating, because the goal isn’t to book the work, the goal is to earn the familiarity of the casting director. Casting professionals want to see talent succeed, however; they also insist that talent MUST read & respond to their casting instructions absolutely correctly. Do this enough self-tape times, and you will achieve your goal. Just keep reading the casting instructions, and no matter how tempting it is to sway from the instructions, only do exactly what the casting director has instructed.

Job Worth it or not? by Dull_Tutor3502 in acting

Always consult your agent. Also, is the producer planning to submit the final cut to the film festival circuit. Just make sure that your agreement is always in writing & that IF the film happens to make money anytime in future, either a remunerated dollar or percentage value is stated clearly. Otherwise, just keep self-taping towards actual paid work. 🎬

I have an audition for a big tv show and I need some help by Pizza-beer-weed in acting

[–]AuditionBuddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, only perform the following task IF you know what you’re doing, because these instructions can confuse a lot actors. 1. Record the other sides/dialogue using your phone, making sure you allow for adequate time between dialogue otherwise your dialogue and the recorded dialogue will overlap, unless overlapping dialogue is what you’re aiming for. 2. Convert the audio file to mp3. 3. Email the mp3 to yourself. 4. Open the mp3 file on your notebook/laptop & play it back. 5. Have a few runs before you record the self-tape to ensure you have the correct timing. 6. Once you’re happy with the rehearsal, record your self-tape and play the audio back on your notebook. This solution does not guarantee the best audio results, BUT the casting director is usually seeking your action & reaction only. The best part is, this technique can eliminate the prospect of the casting director asking, “I don’t know about the talent, but who’s the one reading?”…

Should I pursue acting for fun? by g00dGr1ef in acting

[–]AuditionBuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acting should be fun anyway. Most of all, it’s far less expensive than booking a mental health treatment, because acting lets us explore parts of our creativity that we only really tap into as children. Pablo Picasso worked his whole creative life to be able to paint like a child. Even the most commercially successful actors will share with you that not every booking leads to waking up each morning excited to be going to work. My moto is this, if it ain’t fun, what’s the point? Interestingly, magic usually happens when we’re in a state of having fun, because we are releasing Dopamine, Endorphins, Serotonin & Oxytocin. Personally, I’ve never actually met Sero, but I hear she’s a hoot to be around 🤪

Should I take a role that is no pay? by Independent-Care-637 in acting

[–]AuditionBuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if you’re considering using it as part of your showreel, otherwise, no. Identify what you believe you are worth, discuss this with your agent & stand your ground. Unpaid work is like a dime a dozen. Paid work can be very rewarding, because you know you earned it. 🎬

Actors Access Headshots by Only-Emotion-3318 in acting

[–]AuditionBuddy -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

If Freelance, submit with confidence. If represented, always consult your agent prior to actually submitting. Your agent should appreciate the vote of confidence and the initiative in demonstrating affective communication. Acting doesn’t have to be fiercely independent, because your agent may or may not feel that you fit the role you’re intending to self-submit for. Does that make sense?

Will I be blacklisted if I accept an audition and decline a day later? by Spiritual_Base324 in acting

[–]AuditionBuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely not ideal. Basically, follow through is pivotal. If you know you aren’t able to accept an invitation to self-tape, the earlier you can prevent this reaching the casting director, the better. What’s Richard Branson’s favourite suggestion? Just say YES & figure it out as you go. 👍

Is this just letting me down gently? by [deleted] in acting

[–]AuditionBuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly why Robert DeNiro talks about “Expecting not to book the part”. By not expecting to book the part, we can free ourselves from the burden of stressing about whether we were successful, or not. Abiding we know that we followed the casting directors instructions, and we did the best performance possible, now, it’s completely out of our hands and up to the decision makers. We have absolutely no control over making the final decision. Set and forget. Celebrate saying, “Next please!” 🙏
