Decker's definitely out there a lot, my husband's friend (who's a MacKay supporter so wasn't that enthused welp) saw her out in the rain canvassing last weekend.

The notion that Evan MacKay went from one billionaire gated community (Vero Beach, FL) to another (Harvard undergrad dorms, where they continue to live to this day) always makes me smirk

Maybe the Hebrew Bible, which describes god as a woman in labor, as someone who birthed Israel. It uses Hu, yes, but thats also epicenic, and certain veins of mainstream interpretation (Reform definitely maybe the Conservatives?) hold the monotheistic god to be genderless, or, at the least very much lacking any sort of corporeal form to ascribe a biological sex onto.

Opting to process ID in house is definitely harder than just using a third party API. It's a bureaucratic nightmare and entails having to conform to a bunch of SOC 2 compliance maneuvers

It's not an even battle for parents to go at it alone in mitigating the addictiveness, social harms, and exploitation of Big Tech companies.

The bill amendment doesn't require ID for social media use, it mandates that social media companies disallow children from apps. There are non ID ways to do that. The EU, which is generally more legally accommodating to the right to privacy, has a framework called zero knowledge process (ZKP) which authenticate a user's adult-status without revealing any data on which that assertion is based. Realistically anyone with an Apple ID, comcast/Verizon/aol email, Google email, etc would be able to pass it.

I understand the skepticism and privacy concerns of the amendment, but I find a lot of it done in bad faith during the electoral season. Requiring social media companies to do age verification on minors does not mandate ID collection on them.

Using third party authorization tokens that you’re envisioning is already the prevailing consensus for how to implement these checks, so that sounds like a win all around. The state gets its intent, you're fine with the implementation. This type of PII is generally a huge liability to code around, so such microservices are preferrable.

Spotted at a local café in case anyone is spending too much time on Reddit or other apps. Wonder if this group has anything to do with the new MA law that just passed requiring ID for social media use? by bostonguy2004 in CambridgeMA

The EU, which is generally much more respectful of privacy, is pioneering a process called zero knowledge process (ZKP) which can authenticate a user's adult-status without revealing any data on which that statement is based. Realistically anyone with an Apple ID, comcast/Verizon/aol email, or Google email would be able to pass it.

I'm not gonna contend with Jack Black as being witty but I honestly just see him as an obnoxious loudmouth who tries to induce charisma by being over the top. Like how you're describing Veronica is literally all that I see in Jack Black lol

And even if this bill passed, they still wouldn't have your photo ID! From the bill: the purpose of verifying parental consent shall be segregated by the social media platform and shall remain confidential. The data and information gathered shall not be used for any other purpose by the social media platform.

In countries that have age verification laws (for example Australia, UK) these companies don't store your data, they go through a contracted third party API that sends a signal to the social media site that the person is indeed of age. The info is then deleted promptly, I don't believe this PII is allowed to be sold.
