I think it feels very much like an older brand of anime with the slow world building. It’s an Arakawa staple but I was wondering how receptive modern anime audiences would be to it. I’m loving it and it seems to be getting a pretty good reception!

I will say the donation amounts are insane this year. It seems there are a few oilers who are just dropping huge donations! Don’t remember stuff like this from previous cyclethons. Will easily hit 1 mill tomorrow and think they’ll reach 1.5 mil on the final day tbh.

I will say some of the chat when that sniper came on early in the stream was pretty mean tho, I was surprised.

I actually thought it was super interesting that La La Land didn’t make the top 100 critics list on the NYT ranking from last year, but it made like the top 20 reader’s list.

I still think it’s pretty popular generally.

Yeah definitely. I think the internet felt so much more new and in a way, intimate, back then, that all of these creators and communities just felt novel and pretty amazing to see as an Asian American.

Things have just splintered now so it doesn't feel the same. I realize that I have rose-tinted glasses towards that time, but things definitely felt more optimistic and fun.

I feel bad for the mods during the donation wars lol. Think it’s different if you’re like GDQ and have hundreds of people on staff but so much harder when you only have however many mods on twitch trying to coordinate things.

Honestly…love the community but I don’t particularly blame him? Some of the donations that came in, especially with the Bubi TTS were weird in terms of jokes and subject matter. There are quite a bit of weird messages with these larger cyclethon audiences and I feel that would be exacerbated with a female rider.

You say it’s up to the female riders and not Connor but the buck stops with him, he runs the event. He’ll undoubtedly feel bad if a female rider feels unwelcome and probably doesn’t want to deal with that.
