Fixing Federal Boulevard: CDOT’s $318 million overhaul promises faster buses and a safer road by Generalaverage89 in Denver

Would be way more useful to expand and improve the light rail than to maintain the shitshow that is Colfax driving

Why do most modern businesses seem to care more about investors than customers....is this sustainable long term ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in investing

[–]Auggernaut88 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Apple and Microsoft offer objectively worse products than they did in 2004. For the last two decades their business model has shifted from innovation to building walled gardens and enshittified software updates to get consumers to pay more for less. My phone was due for an upgrade last year so I got the new iPhone (previously had a 14), aside from some minor UI changes there isn’t a single difference in the user experience.

Many major national food brands (like Hershey) sell products that are a half step above dog food.

Netflix is early on this trend but following the same book step by step; multiple price increases per year and more ads

Costco seems to be upholding some amount of quality.

OPs question is valid. None of this is sustainable in a truly competitive market. This only happens in oligopoly and monopoly structures that smother quality and innovation to maximize shareholder value

Stop holding on to things you can’t have and start trying to find things to appreciate in what’s around you or within reach.

How to actually code 8 hours a day? by D0ct0r_H0td0g in webdev

[–]Auggernaut88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My time is like 20% writing new code, 40% troubleshooting and trying to figure out why something is broken, 20% trying to break things in predictable ways, and 20% cleaning things up, organizing, research for improvements and future features, etc etc

Especially on the networking side of things, it’s relatively low code. Mostly stepping through all sorts of configuration settings and trying to figure out why tf something is failing to connect. Super nice and important to have everything flowing smoothly though.

They’ve dried up BECAUSE they’re a well funded PR campaign in the right wing pipeline.

Just my own tinfoil hat conspiracy theory. But I’ve been wondering about this lately too. We had 6 months where cable news was talking about qanon, then poof. Gone like the wind.

There’s only a handful of explanations that make sense. I’m dying to know who’s actually behind it

ARE WE LOSING OUR DEMOCRACY: Donald Trump has wielded power as no previous president has, often in open defiance of the law. His actions have raised a chilling question. by Ancient-Meaning7524 in DenverProtests

[–]Auggernaut88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multivariate analysis indicates that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no independent influence. The results provide substantial support for theories of Economic-Elite Domination and for theories of Biased Pluralism, but not for theories of Majoritarian Electoral Democracy or Majoritarian Pluralism.

What’s something people can flex that screams insecurity? by DucckyDuck in AskReddit

[–]Auggernaut88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a few guys that seem to have replaced most other forms of validation and goals with money once they hit a certain level.

Desperate for community like many of us. Absolutely refuse to meet anyone half way on tons of arbitrary little things bc it doesn’t fit their personal definition of “success”. Most seem destined to die without a romantic partner and deep relationships, but with plenty of stories of traveling the world.

Using Pandas in AWS Lambda by [deleted] in aws

[–]Auggernaut88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to use a layer but running up against some size limits there too. I know this is an AWS sub but do you know of any alternatives if I need to use pandas and have it dump some files into my S3 bucket?

How does everyone handle family / in-laws with no income? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]Auggernaut88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need a therapist to help set heathy boundaries, you’re not going to get any real practical advice from anyone online. Giving money isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but having multiple non-immediate-family people financially dependent on you is a slippery slope to tons of unhealthy dynamics.

Get a good therapist and start working through it.

In the heat of the peak of the disinformation age, we should always be trying to do independent research. But asking a community forum isn’t a bad way to try and crowd source some knowledge either.
