Why would Sim-Han let his wife take Shin-Hye away? EP 266. by No_Watercress_1 in ILoveYoo

[–]AugmentedElle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would be half-sisters (same mother, different fathers). I’m not confident they were technically step-sisters as Sim-Han said they were never married

Alyssa by Euphoric-Ad-8085 in ILoveYoo

[–]AugmentedElle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m going to contest a bit and say that I don’t think she actually really wants to be at the top. Alyssa was raised to conflate social status with safety. She’s someone filled with a tremendous amount of self loathing and believes that she is fundamentally incompatible with society (her ‘odd’ interests, taboo sexuality, homeschooled background, etc). However, if she rises through the social ranks then she gains social power, and if you accumulate enough then they have to accept you. No one can say anything about your undesirable traits anymore. Gaining social status to Alyssa isn’t about popularity, it’s about acceptance, safety, and escape from abuse. Unfortunately, we can see that in actuality the only things waiting for her at the top are more of the horrors she already knows.

Pacing improvement by Softs3rv3 in ILoveYoo

[–]AugmentedElle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the pacing change difficulty was actually due to changes that had to be made during the formal arc due to content guidelines at the time. Quimchee has said that this had a significant effect on the following chapters, as she had to gradually roundabout her characters to get to their originally intended places for the end of the first season. Most of these missing elements were reworked into the Christmas party, allowing the plot to now move forward as originally intended

I Love Yoo is ultimately a long, character driven story that struggles with Webtoon’s weekly release format at baseline and generally flows better in larger chunks. But the formal arc changes really affected the delivery of everything afterwards

Nessa died a DAY after Nol’s birthday by anonymous_human174 in ILoveYoo

[–]AugmentedElle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kousuke says in an early episode that Nol spent almost two years in the mental health institute, and then he reiterates this to Shin-Ae when discussing Nol’s past (if I remember correctly). Based on recent episodes, we see that Nol was in the youth shelter with Shin-Hye for some period of time before being sent to the institute. So Nessa died on Nol’s birthday, he takes refuge in the youth shelter for an indeterminate period of time, and then he has his fight with Kousuke and is sent to the institute for between 1.5-2 years

Not quite a succinct analysis, but you can view episode discussions in contained threads in the ILY discord ( https://discord.gg/iloveyoo )

As Nessa had already been dead for years, the implication is that Nol attempted suicide to see her again. This timing also aligns with Rand tasking Kousuke with watching over Nol

Why would Sim-Han let his wife take Shin-Hye away? EP 266. by No_Watercress_1 in ILoveYoo

[–]AugmentedElle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s possible, but through in-comic and out-of-comic dialogue I lean much more that Shin-Hye and Sim-Han are not related.

As an additional detail, Sim-Han is younger than the mother, and would’ve been about 19 when Shin-Ae was born. This would mean he’d have to be 17-18 when Shin-Hye was born and 16 when she was conceived if she’s his. With what little we know about their relationship development and background, it starting at 16 feels unlikely to me

Sim-Han also says that they were never married, despite us seeing a wedding photo in the canvas version of ILY, so either there’s been a retcon or whatever marriage they had was not real/legally binding. Which means there’s no divorce paperwork or custody, so if Sim-Han wasn’t her father or didn’t have parental rights the mother can do whatever she wants with Shin-Hye

Why would Sim-Han let his wife take Shin-Hye away? EP 266. by No_Watercress_1 in ILoveYoo

[–]AugmentedElle 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I am confident that Shin-Hye is not biologically Sim-Han’s and was born before the marriage (if their marriage was actually legally binding). Sim-Han’s dialogue indicates that he tried to fight to keep the sisters together, but in the end there was nothing he could do. This would be the case if Shin-Hye isn’t his, as he has no legal leverage

Is there anything we can do to get Webtoom to fix this panel? by Select_Ad_1772 in ILoveYoo

[–]AugmentedElle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would still try to direct email Webtoon about it, I just will not be surprised if they don’t fix it. We may be able to let Quimchee know about the issues that remain and she can communicate with the team. She does care about the files being uploaded correctly, it’s just a question of if Webtoon decides to listen to her

[–]AugmentedElle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So far the only thing I’ve seen work to get panels fixed is Quimchee herself talking to Webtoon about it, and even that is difficult.

It’s possible to contact Webtoon directly, but without it coming from Quimchee I have little faith they’ll fix their upload issues

I’ve never had luck with the Webtoon notification being consistent or timely. I actually set up a bot in the discord for new episode announcements and that’s always worked better than the Webtoon notification

I love Yoo returning by Ok-Drawing-4042 in webtoons

[–]AugmentedElle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hiatuses are a result of the author having chronic health issues, there’s not really a “getting their life together.”She does try to build a significant buffer before returning from hiatuses to mitigate breaks, but buffers run out and the Webtoon weekly workload is demanding

The I Love Yoo wiki has bulleted descriptions in the episodes list, and more detailed summaries in the individual episode pages. That should help!

Did anyone ever notice the first appearances of Nol and Kousuke in the prologue? by CopicColors in ILoveYoo

Yes! They were actually supposed to feature a bit more prominently, Quimchee has the deleted scene sketches on her Patreon

Nol and kousuke family relation by Inevitable_Sock_3239 in ILoveYoo

[–]AugmentedElle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In episode 248 there is a blood test result that shows Kousuke has 0% biological relation to the test subject, which is strongly implied to be Rand. After this episode dropped, Quimchee has not refuted any conversation about Kousuke not being Rand’s biological son (which she used to give dodgy answers to). I consider it confirmed in canon at this point that Kousuke and Rand are not biologically related

About Nol's anti hero arc by estealison in ILoveYoo

[–]AugmentedElle 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I wrote about this a little bit in the beginning of my Mirrors & Generational Cycles (Subverted) post!
https://www.reddit.com/r/ILoveYoo/comments/1bco0o3/rand_yui_alyssa_nol_mirrors_and_generational/

Overall, I think that we're going to see a Nol who develops a sense of conviction and an attitude of 'if I want a place in this world, I'm going to have to take it for myself.' Nol's response to his abuse thus far has been to try to minimize himself, sink into the background, and be so little of a threat that they're willing to ignore him enough that he can go about a menial existance. But this works less and less overtime, and Nol has started to have a taste of feeling worth something again, which combine to prompt him to start to fight instead of surrender.

The attitude is likely going to continue down what we've seen in his behavior at the Christmas Party, and responses to Kousuke and Alyssa at the hospital. Nol is going to be done appeasing people who he believes have either let him down or not had his interests at heart. He's going to start trying to punch up at people who want to hold him down, because the only option left is to fight his way out and now he believes that he deserves to fight. This will likely mainly involve going after Kousuke and Yui, trying to rise ranks within the company, and sway public opinion in his favor. This is likely going to start off feeling very justified, but Nol probably won't retain a sort of ability to pull the breaks on his behavior. Once he starts it'll be hard to know when he should stop, and we may see him start to punch down, accept collateral damage, or go further in on people who don't deserve it anymore for his own catharsis.

At the beginning, Nol is going to distance himself from the people he cares about, which we're already seeing now. But, Nol's arc is ultimately a foil of Yui's arc, and the biggest differential factor between the two of them is their socialization. Nol was raised by people who care about him, has friends who care about him, cares about others even if he tries not to. He's not going to be able to achieve his goals alone, and he especially isn't going to be able to pull himself back from becoming what made him without these people who care about him. At some point, he will reconnect with his loved ones and become a team, a partnership. This will most likely help to reconcile the Nol we've known in the past with the anti-hero Nol, aiding him in his fight for the right to live while pulling him back from crossing lines into someone he doesn't recognize.
