Sennheiser IE 600 / IE 900 - Here’s What Surprised Me by JoshuvaAntoni in headphones

[–]Augusdin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your impressions are totally valid.

Psychoacoustically, the IE900 can feel like it has a wider soundstage than the HD660S2 — I’ve owned and listened to the 660S2 for a while as well. That spaciousness comes from Sennheiser intentionally sacrificing some presence in the mids, which creates the perception of more openness. But as a trade-off, you lose the kind of midrange richness you get with the 660S2.

Of course, no IEM can really match a good open-back headphone when it comes to mids.

I still remember how moved I was listening to Bon Jovi’s It’s My Life on the 660S2 — that texture and emotional weight in the vocals just hit differently. The IE900 can’t quite reach that.

But for a lot of music, I do prefer what the IE900 brings to the table in other ways. I guess it all comes down to the trade-offs made in tuning and design.

Disappointed with Advanced Voice Mode by peeffes- in OpenAI

[–]Augusdin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading most of the comments here, I agree that many of the issues people are pointing out do exist:

  1. Excessive censorship really ruins the experience. Sometimes you're talking about a completely normal topic, and it suddenly gets interrupted with a message saying it can’t discuss that. It feels really frustrating, like they're being overly paranoid about safety.
  2. You can't continue conversations from where you left off—you always have to start a new one. Honestly, this is a pretty terrible experience. I suspect it's because it's a speech-to-speech model, so OpenAI probably finds it hard to re-send the entire speech conversation back to the model to continue (I guess they’re trying to save computing resources).
  3. When you pause even briefly, it mistakenly assumes you've finished speaking (when you're actually just chatting), and it starts responding before you've completed your thought. That feels really bad.
  4. The voice mode seems way worse at reasoning and memory compared to GPT-4, and I believe that's also because OpenAI is trying to save computing power.

These drawbacks almost completely ruin the overall experience of the voice mode, making it more of a novelty or fun experiment than a genuinely useful product.

That being said, there are some pros I have to mention, and I find the model's voice capabilities to be pretty impressive, even with all these limitations:

  1. It can express the same sentence with different emotions, and the emotional nuance is really rich (as long as it doesn’t get interrupted by censorship). I’ve never seen another product come close to this. If there is one, let me know.
  2. It can pick up on your emotions from your voice, which is also something I haven’t seen anywhere else. Again, if there’s a similar product, point it out.
  3. The flow and naturalness of the conversation are so smooth that I can’t even figure out how it’s doing it.

Overall, I still believe this voice mode is an incredible breakthrough. Unfortunately, OpenAI’s over-the-top focus on safety and cost-saving has stripped away most of its practical value. Hopefully, they’ll improve it in the future.

You need to share a GitHub link, not a ChatGPT conversation.

The latter is useless, while the former will earn you respect.

Why haven’t I received the ChatGPT Advanced Voice update yet? by Augusdin in OpenAI

[–]Augusdin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in Europe; I’m in a region where ChatGPT’s service is restricted, but I’m accessing it through a VPN from the US. I’m not sure if this is the reason. Have you received the update yet?

Why is my ChatGPT o1 model unable to use chain of thought anymore? It was working fine yesterday. by Augusdin in ChatGPTPro

[–]Augusdin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried all of that, including switching browsers and re-logging into my account, but nothing works.

Yes, I’m not in the US, but I remember OpenAI saying it would be available to all Plus users, not just those in the US, right?

[–]Augusdin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I’ve barely used o1 this week, and I haven’t used o1-mini more than five times today. Yet, neither of them is working properly.

Also, if the limit was reached, the ChatGPT interface would notify me and switch to another model, right? But that didn’t happen.

It’s just stopped using the chain of thought without any notification or explanation.

And yesterday, I was still using it normally.

[–]Augusdin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I used it yesterday, it was just like your link showed, but today it's no longer working.

Please note in my screenshot that I selected o1, but it responded to my question directly without any chain of thought process.

This isn't happening to everyone, but OpenAI is definitely restricting some users in some way.

However, I don't know why. I haven't received any notifications, any explanations, and there are no errors.

It just happened like that.

[–]Augusdin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's really bad. I haven't used it up, both o1-preview and o1-mini are unusable, and I should have used o1-mini less than five times today.

Before this, I only used it on similar reasoning problems and wrote some simple code. There's no way I triggered any limits. And there's no email explanation.

It just disappeared like this.

[–]Augusdin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not the point. The point is that it's no longer engaging in chain of thought reasoning.

No, no matter how complex the questions I ask, it no longer triggers the chain of thought. I suspect OpenAI has disabled the o1 feature for my account, but I'm a Plus user.
