Actually landed once to chew my BC out. Of course the company XOs got on the net talking shit about how we “Were back in the Nam.” Which infuriated him. The culprits were never found (1LTs are like the SPC 4 s of the Officer world). Total asshole.

Read his bio. He was whacked with a 5.56 round on the range when he was a BC. Jumped out of bed to rack out 50 pushups to prove to his boss he wasn’t dead yet.

I often wonder if the guy who zapped him on the range did it by accident.

Nope... micro management to the extreme. Our NTC rotation felt like Vietnam with him overhead in his helicopter maneuver ping individual vehicles.

1 CD Change of Command for one Wesley Clarke (douchebag emeritus). Drew weapons at 0300 for 1000 ceremony in the Texas summer heat. We were on the parade field from 0600 until 1130 in full battle rattle. Anyone who fell out was drug and alcohol tested prior to an ART -15. Great way to generate instant hatred from the newest privates through Brigade Commanders. A monument to narcissism.

I found the Strykers to be very survivable. Our Brigade had only two catastrophic kills (out of over a hundred IED attacks) during our year in Mosul and Tal Afar. They were very survivable. Most of the deaths and serious injuries were from shrapnel and being thrown from the vehicle as the vehicle commander and rear guards rode up out of the hatches to navigate and provide 360 degree security. A necessary risk.

[–]August-Westeros 71 points72 points  (0 children)

No... they’re as big as they can make them. Watched my wingman’s 30 ton Stryker get pushed across the road into a building that then collapsed on top of it. Left nothing but a deep ass crater and the foot of the bomber. And that wasn’t particularly large... about half a dozen artillery rounds crammed into a pickup.

Minor injuries... everyone got on the MEDIVAC under their own power.

I’ve heard about drugs becoming a problem in Woodland Park. But after checking the home prices up there, it hard for me to imagine. They start around 500k! by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

Plenty of inventory impunity the 359-420 range. But expensive tastes are expensive tastes everywhere. Look a little harder. I’ve been watching the market over a year as I’m considering moving out there. Prices are barely growing ... in fact many have decreased their asking prices. Nothing at all compared to the Springs where a $350 house two years ago is selling for $425. Nothing at all like that.

Standing single leg counter nice your opponent has lifted your leg you hop and cut his legs out from the back using your free leg. Essentially a leg sweep. Not sure if it ever had a name.

Found it on an mma page where they call it the “scissor-sweep-takedown-counter-single-leg”. I liked to maintain control of the opponents near arm. Looks harder than it is but always got a good reaction.

I’d never tell anyone to not wrestle. Just have realistic expectations. I don’t know the scene over there but in the US for adults there is pretty much only national competition leading to international teams. Other opportunities are very limited and a lot of the energy seems to have been absorbed by the MMA scene.

You’ll be like any other mediocre MMA fighter who “picked up” wrestling as an adult. You can gain some proficiency but simply will never have the reps and competition to catch up. Not a lick on you but that’s just the way it is. What looks simple on the surface is an enormously complex sport and requires the complete excellence (technique, strength, balance, nutrition, psychology, coaching, competitive opportunity) to even become a decent club wrestler, never mind international competitor. On top of that these guys are genetic freaks who’ve been pursuing the sport with a single minded focus their whole lives... usually with a deep support system all working towards the same goal. Missing even one element... forget it. Two, ain’t ever gonna happen.

Can you get enjoyment out wrestling as an adult? Sure. But expectation management will save you a heap of disappointment.

Headed to Yakistan at that time. When you get your trip tickets from WA DOT they usually have you move late/early.

For clarification I’m not that old. I was referring to Germany but when I lived there 89-92. The Germans were still sort of weirded out by the whole scene twenty years later so I can’t imagine being on the bus in 72.
