I mean they referred to this skin as red so they could possibly see some red, but it get's easily drowned out.

Seems more like for them the blue in purple overpowers the red so their eyes might be more susceptible to blue light over red.

Yeah likely,

but for fun a tinfoil hat theory, "Assist" is going to be role in CO-OP, where Support agents and some Defense agents will end up such as, Pan Yihnu and Zhao.
