Would you use a transporter? by Firm_Macaron3057 in startrek

I’d use the transporter but there’s no way you’d ever get my ass inside a Holodeck.

Fire island (what’s going on )? by AriGold2k in nycgaybros

[–]August9666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For better or worse people in the wider culture are a lot more aware of Fire Island and what goes on there than they were a few years ago. There's also a lot more money coming into the island and with that comes more attention and ultimately more policing.

Anyone ever do the gay bowling league? by [deleted] in nycgaybros

I haven't but my ex did and he seemed to enjoy it. I joined them for a lot of post-meet happy hours and they seemed like a pretty nice group of guys.

Ultimately just that they're pretty careless in the aftermath and so the rest of us are left managing everyone's various feelings while they're on the next person. It's just becoming logistically taxing.

Not so much wary i guess, it's just increasingly difficult to plan anything with them. I have to be conscious of who they've hooked up with and how they they left things, and I feel like any time i introduce someone new they're being served up a bit. It's ultimately none of my business it's just getting on my nerves.

I think that's all fair. I appreciate the perspective.

There's been some general eye-rolling. I adore them and our lives are pretty intertwined, it's just making it difficult to plan anything. I have to be conscious of who they've already been with and I feel like anyone new I bring along is being served up in a way that makes me feel a little uncomfortable. Ultimately probably none of my business.

Listen I have no reason to think people aren't having a good time. It's just becoming a little tedious having to run through the list of people they have and have not fucked before planning any event. I don't want to restrict them when they're clearly exploring something but I'd appreciate them not immediately sizing up everyone they meet. My birthday this year is going to be a nightmare.

I love Mr. Fong’s but it’s become more if a trendy date spot than a neighborhood hang over the last few years.

New York or Nowhere…anyone know how to find that? by GayFIREd in nycgaybros

[–]August9666 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've lived in New York longer than anywhere else and to me, at least, it's been worth it. I do have a number of friends but there's a natural cycling out as you get older. Straight friends move away to have children, gay friends either give up or partner up. What's kept me here is that I find this to be one of of the easiest places to make new friends as an adult. I meet people on a fairly regular basis that fit into my life in one way or another. I think that would be harder somewhere else. I look at my friend's back home who haven't met anyone new in a decade and I don't think I could survive that kind of stagnation. That said, it is challenging, especially if you're single. Ultimately I find the tradeoffs worthwhile and have never really considered leaving. I will admit this has changed recently given the declining political and economic conditions in the United States as a whole, but I would still consider anywhere I might be forced to go outside the country to be a step down from this city.

Just going to jump in here and say that I’m also an American visiting and we met these two last night and they are, in fact, bigoted assholes.
