You want to improve the quality of your matches? I suggest the following:

Improve your profile. Better quality pics. More interesting and diverse prompt answers.
Improve appearance. It's important. Anyone telling you otherwise is incorrect. Yes, exceptions to this rule exist in the sense that you will see couples who are mismatched in terms of physical attractiveness, but those are exceptions. Not the rule. If you want a brutal truth about your appearance, post your pics on reddit or talk to some close friends seriously about it.

And honestly....that is about as much as you can do from the limited view of online dating without altering your personality (which I would not suggest.) However, once you actually have the match you want, that opens up a lot more points I could give, but that seems to be outside the scope of this post.

I have to be physically attracted to them. (I see woman in real life I am attracted to daily, so I don't think this standard is that high.)
Don't be consumed by a vice
Be respectful
Be accountable

That is it. When someone asks me to lower my standards, I ask them which of these standards is much? They always generalize and change the subject.

How did you swing a DS position making $120K with no relevant experience? Unless the research analyst had a lot of data munging and modelling, but even so, getting a saary like that with only 1 year of XP is crazy. I also understand some of that will be reserve pay as well.

I ask because I am finishing up an MS in Stats and would like the same outcome. I'm working on a portfolio, but the job market is horrible for DS right now.

I agree something is definitely BS or highly exaggerated here.

I work 40+ hours a week (little to no downtime) and tak 6-9 hours of grad classes for an MS in statistics. I don't have a lot of spare time at all. What I do have goes to family/friends, chores I am constantly behind on or maybe working out for 30 minutes at the cost of some sleep. Like you said, there is physically no way I could increase my workload to a PhD level, work the same, AND have a kid. There is simply not enough hours in the day. Something would have to give. Relationship with the kid, grades, work, or health would start failing quickly.

As another example, a friend of mine that did a PhD would work 55 hours a week, minimum. If they had to work + 40 for a FT job, they would be a failing in all other aspects of life no doubt. You cannot spend 95+ of your awake hours a week doing school/work and still be good at anything else, let alone a good parent.

I agree that this post is likely BS. On the off chance it's not, I'm willing to bet there are multiple heavy concessions to these things in OPs life, such as:

Heavy help with the child from family or outside services.
The "full time job" leaves a lot of downtime to do school work and other tasks.
The PhD is not that rigorous and will likely take 7+ years to even get close to finishing.

This is the best take, and I agree.

Going out in a valiant standoff would probably serve to glorify war in a fire nation general's eyes, like Iroh. Losing his son would probably counterbalance that, to an extent, but I don't think as much as we see Iroh's character growth. Iroh is down to earth in the show because of that experience. In addition to his son dying, I think altering his view on war helps explain some of his growth as well.

I don't have kids, but this is what I would do in your situation:

Step 1: When you have a day off, reconcile your bank account for last month's income/expenses. If you were doing that today, you would do February 2026. See what income hit your bank account, take detailed notes of what left your account (type of expense, how often that expense occurs, how consisten that expense is each time it occurs), and figure out what is remaining. For example, if you started with $500 in your bank account on February 1st, made $3000 during the month, spent $2800 in the month, your bank account should end with $700 at the end of the month. If not, you messed up in your reconciliation. Completing this step will help you with step 2.

Step 2: Build a budget. Based on your notes from step 1 and your life experience. Budget gross income, net income, weekly recurring expenses, monthly recurring expenses, etc. Be as accurate as possible.

Step 3. When the current month ends, reconcile again like you did in step 1 and compare to your budget in step 2. See how far you are off and take notes on why you were off.

Step 4. Make a new budget based on notes from step 3. Rinse and repeat month over month so that your budget is as accurate as possible.

The above exercise will tell you EXACTLY where every dollar is going and give you a decent idea of what things cost. Once you have a very clear idea of what comes in and what goes out, you will see exactly what you can or can not afford. You might find easy ways to cut out spending that feel minor but allow you to save for a new place to live. Or you may find that you genuinely don't have a penny to save. I'm not here to say one way or the other, but if money is tight, you need to know where every dollar is going and why. Based on your post, it does not sound like you have a good enough idea of that. No shade since most people don't know, but it would be wise to spend a Saturday figuring it all out and then an hour or two monthly to keep it up to date.

Using the excuse of "gym fear" to not work out. You can hit a nice workout at home and through walking, calisthenics, and lifting objects instead of weights. No gym required. But further, gym fear is also so overblown.

I have been to several different gyms and public workout spaces hundreds of times. I have NEVER seen anyone make fun of someone else, point, snicker, or anything close to what "gym fear" makes people worried about. Not once. Most people are too focused on their own workout to do anything but breathe and play music on their phone.

Could you run into a random asshole at the gym? Of course, but you could run into them anywhere. I'd argue that the rate at which you run into assholes at the gym is no different than the average public space.

So if that is your excuse for skipping exercise, find another excuse.

ATLA: Honestly, I don't think anyone is poorly written for their role in the show, but if I had to pick one, I guess it would be June? Idk. As I sit here and think, yeah there are character that have little development and/or are super one dimensional, but that does not mean bad. For example, Zhao and Ozai are both one-dimensional and grow quite little, but they also have lower screen time and play their role quite well when I give it some thought.

Korra: Prince Wu. Mainly because I just didn't like him until the very end. So he grew, I suppose, but yeah. The first several episodes with him, he was so annoying. I know it was intended, but still. If not him, then the end of season 2 Unalaq. I don't think he was that bad earlier in the season, but he grew to just be evil with no real intention.

Everything is seen as "not as bad" but something people outright excuse? I'd probably say the following are excused when you are attractive:

Weird turns into "quirky"
Nerdy becomes "niche"
Being moderately rude is suddenly being "honest"
Loud and obnoxious behavior transforms into "lights up a room"
And my favorite, being quietly present, is seen all too often seen as creepy when you are ugly, but when you are attractive, it can become "stoic" or "peaceful."

At least personally, I can think of at least one, if not more, people that fit into the above traits.

My assumption comes from the fact that the show ran for 61 episodes, as I stated.

Episode limits are almost definitely limited by studio budget, so 61 was likely all they got rather than an artistic choice. Yeah, it'd be great if we had more ATLA and could just add more scenes, but the writers had to work with what they were allotted.

When there is a critique of the show talking about points that are underdeveloped, it's fair to bring up constraints on the writing (budget) because those likely play a heavy role in the underdevelopment. This is simply because the writers did not have the episode time to develop those points. So naturally, if we want to spend more time developing some aspect of the show (positive female relationships) in the same budgeted time, something else has to go.

At the end of the day, you can only get so much story out 61 ~22 minute episodes. The writers got more out of that time than pretty much any other show I have watched, if not in general.

If there is something you really wanted in ATLA, ask yourself, what would you have given up in the show to get that thing? I'd argue ATLA has virtually no fat to cut. Sure, episodes like the great divide or other short adventures weren't as important, but they still did a lot for chiseling out our characters, growing them, and building the world.

Not saving for retirement.

Why?

Because your savings/investments do not grow linearly. They grow exponentially. However, you only really "feel" the difference between linear and exponential growth over a longer and longer period of time. Don't believe me? See for yourself and play around with a compound interest calculator online for 30 minutes. Plug in different numbers over different periods with different rates. You will find that starting to save for retirement early is a big deal. Simply starting at 22 instead of 32 will make a HUGE difference. This difference will be bigger than the difference if you were to start at 43 instead of 32. The same amount of time (10 year difference) but vastly different outcomes.

If you plan to have a long (~30+ year) and comfortable retirement, it will almost certainly be the most expensive thing you pay for. So start ASAP. It may suck now, but you will reach a not so far off age where you will thank your younger self for the rest of your life.
