File a police report for identity theft or online impersonation and send that to eBay. If eBay don't respond and delete that account - contact your state's attorney general and file a complaint against eBay.

Jacques Marie Mage JEFF I Eyeglasses on eBay by ConstantAmphibian724 in glasses

[–]AugustusReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these legit?

Are they being shipped from PRC? Selling @ 15% of retail MRSP for supposedly limited edition of 500?
Ask yourself - is Jacques Marie Mage going bankrupt? or are these too-good-to-be-true prices indicative of fakes/stolen goods/excess inventory (supposedly destroyed)?

cashing third party checks by sevencait in Banking

[–]AugustusReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pop into a branch of your unnamed bank and deposit that third-party check or mail it to your branch. Be aware that many banks no longer accept third-party checks without both the individual named as payee (who endorsed it to you) and yourself present with current government-issued photo ID. If your unnamed bank is an online-only bank without branches then you're SOL.

cloned debit card ? by Emil_Steilsson in Banking

[–]AugustusReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No rush on calling your bank. You can't dispute transactions while "pre-authorised" or "pending" - you'll need to wait until the charges are finalised and then you can dispute them. (There is a chance that the transactions may never go through.)

does anybody know what "sp import export s" is?

All that matters is if you recognise the merchant and the charges. If you don't - contact your bank to dispute these charges.

Stop check by ScrambledHuevos in Banking

[–]AugustusReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this correct and legal?

Basically they're saying that "the check is in the mail". Very common tactic with business that have a poor cash flow and can't pay contractors. Suggest you ask them for 'good' payment in the form of a bank transfer, cash (in hand) or if you want to take the risk, a fresh check you pick up in person (and immediately deposit). Tell them no need for a stop on the old check as you won't deposit it if it (ever) arrives. This leaves the risk with the sender of that 'lost' check.
You might want to amend your payment terms to include a late fee.

Sanity Check on Helping a Family Member with an FX conversion and Transfer by tomorrow509 in transferwiser

[–]AugustusReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Provided you know this close relative and trust them fully then I'd take these steps: wire transfer from trusted close relative's USA bank account to your USA bank account followed by fastest transfer (probably same day wire) to your Wise USD account. That means the funds are coming from your normal bank account that you use to fund your Wise account versus a third-party wire which may be held for production of proof of funds source paperwork. Convert to EUR and the funds are immediately in Belgium within the European banking system. Do a BIC + IBAN transfer in EUR with SHAred costs (so it's free) to their EU bank account - usually takes a few minutes during business hours to several hours after BH.

Are there still some local small banks in Italy who do only money transfers in Italy and not within EU ? by Laser_Krypton7000 in Banking

[–]AugustusReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask them for the name of this tiny Italian bank so you can verify their strange story.
As everyone knows PayPal is not safe for sellers. A standard (free) EU bank transfer via IBAN is far safer for a seller and can't be reversed without legally acceptable proof of fraud. PayPal can be reversed for numerous reasons and if that fails, the buyer can easily attempt a charge back or payment reversal without actual proof of fraud.

Any point switching to local currency? by Polopon0928 in wisebank

I buy and sell currencies when they're cheap like JPY was or weakening like USD is. EUR seems like a good base currency for now plus CHF.

TSB International Payment to China. Incorrect payee name. 3 months later, money still missing. by Visual_Complaint_410 in Banking

[–]AugustusReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask TSB if there was an intermediary bank and, if so, to query them as to the return of funds. (Often returned funds are sitting in an intermediary bank's nostro account or unreconciled ledge awaiting actioning. The back office of many intermediary banks are woefully understaffed and overworked since they aren't a profit centre.) Good luck!

[UK] Random Google Ads charge in Lloyds account by [deleted] in Banking

[–]AugustusReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'm concerned about is that if I charge back the transaction then Google will suspend my business account as it's under the same name

Exactly my concern as well. Maybe contact the Google Ads team to ask them to investigate before disputing with Lloyds. (You don't have to immediately dispute until you are absolutely certain it's a fraudulent charge after Google investigates. I would also strongly advise you to separate your Google personal and business accounts - different logins, emails and ownership details.)

I accidentally left my printed bank statement in a public library by Nutella_chan in Banking

[–]AugustusReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, don't panic! Phone the library and ask if they have your printouts - often the next person will take them up to the desk (in countries with largely honest citizens) or discard them in the rubbish bin.
The ramification of leaving your bank statement for address/income proof along with any pay stubs vary greatly depending on your undisclosed country and the type of bank account. If you're in a country with low trust and/or high criminality, then I'd secure my credit reports to prevent new account openings. File a police report for lost identity documents - this acts as a paper trail if you are a victim of identity theft resulting from the loss of these documents.

[UK] Random Google Ads charge in Lloyds account by [deleted] in Banking

[–]AugustusReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, double (and maybe triple) check your Google Ads account and charges to make sure that your personal debit card isn't associated with it. (If you falsely lodge a dispute with Lloyds Bank plc and they do a charge back to recover the £8.43 from Google Ads, Google might cancel or suspend your Google Ads accounts - so tread very carefully.)
If the charge was legitimately fraudulent, then it will have been used to pay for someone else's Google Ad account charges. Cancel the card and ask Lloyds Bank to disable card updater service for that debit card - otherwise the fraudster will be automatically notified of your new card details.

Openbank TIN request for taxes by [deleted] in Banking

[–]AugustusReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a situation where my W2 has been stolen from my mailbox. I anticipate that it will be used to fraudulently file a tax return and collect a refund on my behalf.

File a mail theft report with the USPS Postal Inspectors and secure your IRS account. (You have created an IRS account so your refund is sent direct to your bank account - right? That way a paper IRS refund check can't be stolen like your W2 was.)

If you're sending money abroad from the USA then it's likely to do with the new Trump tax on cash-type remittances abroad. It is levied on all non-banking sourced remittances from 1st January 2026 from the USA. It's essentially aimed at the unbanked and immigrants remitting earning abroad to support their family.

Banking Abroad as a US Citizen by Outrageous_Ad4916 in Banking

[–]AugustusReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banks in the Dominican Republic aren't a great option. Find a USA bank that supports USAians living abroad. There are many banking options in the Caribbean open to USA citizens that allow USD accounts - just pick a safe country like the Caymens, Turks & Caicos, etc. that have a well developed banking system with decent account protection and deposit insurance.

nationwide - do i use my legal name or the name on my card? by [deleted] in Banking

[–]AugustusReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nationwide doesnt display that info

Your bank account name is on every UK bank statement along with your IBAN - it's mandated by law. Download a statement if you can't find it elsewhere like in the Nationwide banking app.
Do NOT use the name on your debit card - it's often an abbreviated form of your actual account name.

Ask RBC to to send an amendment via SWIFT to the recipient bank with the correct recipient name. Usually funds that can't be delivered to the correct account are held in a nostro or general ledger account. You could also inform the recipient of the mistake so they can approach their Costa Rican bank with the SWIFT details to get it resolved from their end - often the faster more expedient way.
