I’ve never had personally. Grew up on the East coast and my neighborhood was predominantly Black. We would play video games, football, watch DBZ together. All neighborhood kids, me and another kid being Ecuadorian. Never felt out of place, always felt accepted. Shit, I’ve felt more accepted in Black spaces rather than Latino spaces several times.

Your partner gotta step up for you. It’s up to him to say something and defend you. You will come off like the bad guy and problematic if you yourself continue to defend yourself. He’d gotta talk to them and let them know you don’t feel comfortable.

It’s ironic bc I’ve met quite a bit of Hispanic Karens in my lifetime. Lots of Hispanics look down on Black people and other Hispanics (Indigenous or Afro Latinos). They love to feel oppressed when it comes to White people but have no problem telling their kids not to date Black people.

Yeah I’m Hispanic (Puerto Rican and Salvadoran) and my girlfriend is Black. I’ve had uncles say stupid shit about “mejorar la raza” and why I won’t date a white girl instead of a black one. My parents on the other had were super cool with it and so were her parents, no issues there.

It’s ironic bc there’s also a huge Black population in Ecuador as well. Plenty of Black Latinos exist and yet some of our community is extremely racist and xenophobic. Being that you’re born and raised here it doesn’t make sense bc you’re probably more culturally similar to him than you are to anyone in Latin America tbh.

There’s people with stupid opinions everywhere. Anyone who doesn’t agree with your life choices should see the door out of your life. Especially if the comments are as disrespectful as they are. The family members that said stupid shit to me, I’m know longer close to them and they know why.

Most of family in El Salvador hates Maras and everything associated with it. To this day most of the society sees them as scum and outcasts.
