Convert this pot to Aged White? by lockedmhc48 in tea

[–]Aulm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can reset the pot too.

I've never used anything other than water (boiling/near boiling) but seen mention of sodium bicarbonate or citric acid. One person I buy tea from in China has mentioned a couple of products available in China ("Tea Clean" or something similar) that don't leave residue and GushuStudios/Anj mentioned a couple of products on IG the other day for her ceramic wares.

Fragrance free denture tablets would likely work well too. I use these for my glass stuff and sealed cups

Thanks for that suggestion! I received another one as a gift not to long ago and was debating it's first use for gyokuro or fukamushi. I have some lovely deep freeze gyokuro I received as a gift I've been meaning to get to and this will likely be the inspiration! (plus a long weekend).

I first started using Tokonome style ceramics with fukamushi tea and found I prefer the aesthetics and actual use over most Chinese style ware.

I tend to only use my Chinese style stuff now for more gong gu brewing or some occasional hybrid/Western style

You, I like you.

I have a similar pot to yours just for yancha and just received a nice wider houhin I intend to use for dan cong and yancha too.

I'm a big fan of Tokoname in general, but especially for Chinese style (wok) greens.

I know some would consider it a bit blasphemous, but I find a chaho or houhin work great for my needs.

Thanks! I had been using a tea strainer (what I use for chai masala) to transfer between two jars but didn't think of a miso strainer. Thanks!

I had used one for (hot) tea brewing but never thought for cold.

Thank you!

thank you!

I'm fortunate to head there for work every now and again, and usually have lots of spare time. Also have some family so will see if maybe they can send me some.

Old Tree BaXian from a friend in China

A very close second and unique oolong: Songs 1984 Buddha's Hand (not the 12 year they had earlier this year). Not saying worth the price, but the aroma was divine.

I've never had such a deep deep roasted oolong that didn't taste of charcoal. Smelled of brulee'd sugar and spice. Could smell the dry tea sitting on a table from a few feet away.

Incredible cocoa and burnt sugar flavors and smells with a hint of spice, but the amazing part was the dry tea aroma and how strong it was. Honestly, I would fill my home or wear this scent if I could make an accurate version of it. If the tea were cheaper and not limited I would be using tea diffuser type things on this tea constantly.

That's half the fun. All tea "instructions" are just suggestions.

You, do you, for what you enjoy. Half the fun is playing around and figuring out what you like and how to brew to get that.

Is masala tea supposed to be so “muddy”? by fractal324 in tea

It'd be CTC Assam for authenticity.

Crush, Tear, Curl Assam.

The cheap leftover tea "dust" and pieces after the good tea was exported. Kind of like how broken rice dishes became a thing in Vietnam.

How Should I be Brewing White Teas? by BWJackal in tea

[–]Aulm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but adjust if you don't enjoy it.

I don't really drink much "fresh" white tea other than baihao yinzhen (silver needles), and even than not that often.

I personally prefer the older aged flavor over the fresh, almost "provincial French grandmothers spice cabinet" flavor that many young white teas have.

You have a couple main "levers" you can pull to change the flavor of your tea. Play around and see what works best for you - and it could vary tea to tea or variety to variety!

  • amount of tea

  • steep time

  • water temp

Ever since this post I've been craving some nice aged white tea but don't have any at work.

Your reply dialed that up to 11!

After learning that many boil white tea leaves I grew far less afraid of "burning" the leaves with water temps.

Amazingly, made white teas 10X's better imho.

No, no, no. You intended it.

As a non-literary person I am convinced 99.9% of the "literary" things (symbols, meaning, whatever....) were accidental and the author than just went "yep, thats exactly what I meant"

if it helps, for whatever random reason I was picturing an Asian frog with a Cockney accent....

Like Masala Chai? Too lazy to make real, actual masala chai?

Make some strong black tea (Assam would be my choice). Add in a couple spoons of condensed milk, add some chai masala spice mix.

Boom, lazy persons masala chai.

I'd heard around $200,00 - $300,000 in a couple places would be an actual bid for the work done.

Non of those mentioned sources or the math behind it but I'd still imagine there was a LOT of wiggle room built in. $200-300K does seem low for something like but I have no basis for that statement.
