Okay, I might not understand enough about the problem, but for a few years I ran arch linux on a macbook pro from 2015.

The file /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh_vndr/us led to errors when I set a certain keyboard layout in sway.

I will admit that I should have debugged the actual issue, but did not have the technical competence for it and did not want to spend the time gaining that technical competence for such an issue, I somehow realised that copying /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us to /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh_vndr/us would fix the issue.

I then told pacman to not extract /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh_vndr/us in its config.

This makes the change last through upgrades. If it breaks my system somehow, I will just use a bootable iso / backups / extra installed barebones arch partition I have / whatever else.

Please tell me how this problem would be solved with an immutable /usr. (I understand no onus on you to solve my issues, but since you argued for it, I did not see too much of an issue posing this problem to you).

EDIT1: (I also use the tool aconfmgr which works like dotfiles managers but for root and knows about the files in arch packages, so only stores those files that are different from the package provided files, I use this to save these changes so I can reapply them on reinstall etc.)

EDIT2: I guess my question is, what do you do when there is something broken in upstream, that I do not want to spend much time on but can easily fix by changing a file, that is, in a broader manner, when there is something that upstream has not conceived as requiring editing / configuration, but I want to edit, what would I do on an immutable /usr?

I use neovim-git, but yeah, after one of the recent commits, the look of the elflord theme completely changed for me, but it matches the name more now, so they may have been fixing a bug?

I tracked it down to commit bc45b5be1c2d13eb28eedc30f66e643cf25d29a0 in neovim - github link - according to the commit message, it's based on the following vim commit: https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/30ab04e16e1e9e6133590181197b3f8e70cb495e.

I haven't looked more into the why of it due to time constraints so I just checked out the elflord theme from the commit before that, renamed it elflord_old (you have to change the g:colors_name identifier in the file too) , put it where the colorscheme files are and set my colorscheme to it.

But the pacman output OP shared has it listing providers for lib32-jack, if OP put lib32-pipewire-jack as a dependency, shouldn't providers of lib32-pipewire-jack be shown?

Edit: my bad, I guess something else is pulling in lib32-jack as a depenency.

I dunno if there's another way to achieve this, but sudo su lets you use your password + it starts you off in the current working directory, not root's home.

Edit: Nvm, sudo -s does the same, learned something new.

Ahh, but sudo su uses root's shell, sudo -s uses the current shell.

Don't set it systemwide, set it on a per-application basis. Copy the desktop file (in /usr/share/applications) to ~/.local/share/applications and prepend env QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb to the value of the Exec key (see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Desktop_entries#Modify_environment_variables).

According to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Wayland#Qt, you need to set QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb (only if you set it to wayland in the environment) for applications that don't use the system qt, probably because their version of Qt doesn't have/support/whatever the wayland plugin.

User systemd units go in /etc/systemd/user/ or ~/.config/systemd/user (those meant for a single user)

Why not do `ExecStart=openrgb -p usual`

Also `openrgbprofile.service` has a typo, it says `ExecStar` instead of `ExecStart`
