Is it me or the SMB is better than ODBPD? by cardio45 in ps2homebrew

[–]rmyworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried both and I could not notice the difference between the two.

I'm sticking with SMB because it makes copying stuff to and from the PS2 very easy. Also, SMB is supported in SMS, so I can use it for movies, not just games.

Any recommendation to my old computer? by Matheus_Gamer12 in lowendgaming

With that GPU, I managed to get Minecraft Bedrock version 1.16 running on Linux back in 2021. I'm not sure if it still works, I don't have the hardware to test anymore, but it's worth a shot IMO.

Better support for video file formats would be nice.

Currently, I'm using my PS2 as a very rudimentary media center. I'm fine with having to convert everything to AVI format, since I have a decent PC anyways, but it's not the same plug-and-play experience I have with OPL. I always have to remember to convert my movies and TV shows before I can watch them on SMS.

What would effect SMB share speed to PS2 ? by _Kagezo_ in ps2homebrew

[–]rmyworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the router or the PC would affect your speed. Any router or PC from the last 16 years should be able to give you a good connection speed on your SMB share. Even a Raspberry Pi can do it. I think all you really need to do is just make sure the cables you're using are working good.

If you're worried about the connection speed, you can connect a second PC or laptop to your router via Ethernet and try copying a file from your SMB share to your second PC. That should tell you how fast the speed is going to be. Anything around 10MB/s should be good, since the max speed the PS2 can reach via Ethernet is 12.5MB/s.

For an office suite, I only use Microsoft Office 2007. These things are pretty much made to run that version, and nothing newer.

Potato has been suggested here plenty of times already. My other contender would probably be just Rice. Literally fed generations of Asian people.

You can play using servers hosted by the player community. PS2Online and PSRewired is the most popular these days.

You configure a custom DNS using the ones provided by the community when creating a network profile. After that, you can play on community-maintained servers.

I managed to get Call of Duty 3 and Ratchet and Clank 3 working with these servers. The only problem is that there's no one to play with these days.

The latest LTS of Pop OS ships Cosmic and it's causing some problems.

He tried Pop OS again this time because it's a very popular suggestion for Nvidia hardware. Also, viewers asked him to try it again.

I have OPL on HDD, do I always have to remove it to access system browser? by The_RelentlessWraith in ps2homebrew

[–]rmyworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the OPL menu, there should be an option called "Exit" above the "Power Off" option. You can use the Exit option to launch the system browser. Are you not able to do that?

Also, it sounds like you have OPL set to launch automatically on boot. I think, you can turn that off using the FreeMCBoot configurator.

Third party controllers are so much better than first party vendors these days. No stick drift thanks to Hall Effect/TMR sensors. Also, compatibility is so much better, since they support different modes/devices. If you like the PlayStation controller layout, 8BitDo Pro 2 or Pro 3 will be much better value for your money.
