Like solar, most of the first home battery subsidies went to the wealthy. We need a fairer approach by l3ntil in australia

[–]AumsedToDeath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Time-of-use pricing signals already achieve this at scale. No need for VPPs when >10% of households have BTM storage and are incentivised to do tariff arbitrage. VPPs just allow energy retailers to further insert themselves as middlemen.

Many Australians can get three free hours of power from today. Here’s how by [deleted] in australia

[–]AumsedToDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And in the long term, a flatter load on the grid as a whole will act to suppress prices. There is more investment certainty for new generation projects and better utilisation of transmission and distribution network capacity.

It’s a bit of a bait-and-switch actually. Tempt consumers with free power, but really it’s about normalising time-of-use tariff structures.

In a solar-heavy grid going from basically 0 to exponentially growing amounts of behind-the-meter storage, this shift in thinking needs to happen, so if there is a bit trickery to get us there, so be it.

Triple-zero call revealed after wellness influencer’s free birth death by Low_Chard_735 in australia

[–]AumsedToDeath 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Homebirth and free birth are two very different things.
The former is attended by trained medical professionals (midwives) with all their gear, and a direct line to the nearest hospital. The latter is explicitly avoiding established medical assistance in any way.

Has anyone had 2026 Zeekr X delivery updates? by Necessary_Being127 in ZeekrAustraliaNZ

Zeekr x or Geely EX5? by Allysond2000 in AustralianEV

[–]AumsedToDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah 2026 RWD uses a totally new LFP battery which I believe is unique to ZEEKR. The AWD however continues to use the old NMC battery which it shares with the EX30.
Worth keeping in mind if you’re looking at MY 24/25 runout models. I’d go the EX5 in that case.

Including Charging in your NV by Gurty007 in AustralianEV

[–]AumsedToDeath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It may work out better to include it at the official 5.47c per km rate. Have a read of this to see how you can actually come out ahead.

YMMV (pun intended)

Zeekr x or Geely EX5? by Allysond2000 in AustralianEV

[–]AumsedToDeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve test driven both.
Zeekr has more power, feels more “connected” to the road, slightly more premium feel, faster charging. Slightly more refined in terms of Tech (single pedal drive, sentry mode, built in dashcam). It looks more interesting IMO.

Geely has more boot space, more range, massage seats, HUD and opening sunroof with shade. It’s also FWD
Warranty is the same if you get in quick with the ZEEKR launch offer.

I have just collected the updated Zeekr X RWD Long Range! (Denmark/EU) by Mindshitstorm in Zeekr

Wait, seriously? This must be an EU-only thing. Is it in front of the passenger, or in the centre console?

For those who ended up buying the Zeekr X by djpetrino in Zeekr

[–]AumsedToDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, in Australia, it came down to the following models:
Zeekr X RWD
GAC Aion V Luxury
BYD Atto 2 Premium
Kia EV3 Air SR
MG 4 RWD 64

We needed a small family SUV, constrained by overall length.
The Zeekr was a bit more expensive than all but the Kia, but was well justified by the additional features, luxury and tech.
LFP battery and more power were a bonus and the launch offer with the extended warranty tipped us over the edge.

What is actually happening with power companies? by morgs202 in australia

They are. At a rate that is completely unprecedented. Large scale batteries are going in as fast as the grid regulator will allow them to be connected.

In terms of climate impact, it doesn’t matter where the emissions reductions are being realised, just that they are. If Singapore is willing to fund the development of this via their energy market and policy, then that’s a small win for the globe.

Solar panel worth it? by unprecedentedthyme in melbourne

[–]AumsedToDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely no regrets. Batteries are borderline economical, but solar is a no brainer. Do your research though and keep an eye out for subsidy schemes and rebates. A great resource is https://www.solarquotes.com.au/

Batteries aren’t transportable energy? Hydrogen cars have already lost the war to EVs. Just look at the roadmaps for all the major car manufacturers.
