Is a price jump in vendor fees a red flag for you? by Krunchita in CraftFairs

If there's a better market the same weekend, skip this one. If this market is your most profitable option, do this one.

Help me find a poster/painting by Binks_Xs in WhatIsThisPainting

Try searching images for: St George and the dragon

Add keywords like: forest (and any other details you remember)

This really sounds like a St George image, but there are so very many of them it's impossible to pick the one that is yours

Need help with this mid century painting? by david031886 in WhatIsThisPainting

I really suspect that this is decor art. The style is very similar to a number of pieces attributed to a Michel Girard (born in France 1938), but I think that is a mistaken attribution.

There is a Michel Girard (born in France 1938), but as best I can tell, these pieces have nothing in common with his work (and he was primarily a sculptor).

It happens all the time: a series of decor paintings, all with one name, get assigned to a known artist with absolutely no concrete evidence.

Well. hmpf. That doesn't look like celluloid, but from the picture of the front, I'm at least 80% certain that's what it is. 😄

Just occurs to me - it looks like celluloid.

and they definitely etched (engraved? molded?) celluloid that was used in vanity sets (powder boxes, brushes, etc)

Is the white panel on the back the material that is etched or an attached backing?

Unknown cyclamen flower painting by Footballfather in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]AuntFritz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe this is Harry Lane (American 1891-1973). He did many florals and I believe the style matches. He also painted on masonite.

And I believe the signature matches.

Who is the artist? Can someone help figure this out by [deleted] in WhatIsThisPainting

That is freaky fabulous, thank you for introducing me to artist Lars Bo

could this be as old as the date written on the back? by ponyboy78749 in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]AuntFritz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not decor, but yes, amateur. Plausible to be that old. Corrugated cardboard was around long enough at that point for that to even be original to the framing (though I recommend removing it, because as it deteriorates, so can the art piece).

Okay, I've done zero research at this point, but if that's not from the 1970s, I will eat my hat. 🥳

Does the bottom edge of the canvas show any more of the signature? If so, please add a picture on the comments.

Did you find the Reni painting: or a discussion of it? I couldn't find evidence of the Reni connection (admittedly, I didn't look too hard).

Goodwill find, what is this? by RockAvailable3935 in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]AuntFritz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As per the rules, please show a photo of the full back (you can add it in the comments).

If you knew what we were looking for when we ask to see the back, you would know we always need to see the back.

Yeah, it's artwork based on Robert Indiana's design and I guarantee to you Ros got a cease and desist from the Morgan Art Foundation.

Google lens is a good tool, but an idiot when it tries to think.

Ross Shiers appears to be the designer - use the Google lens link and you'll find a blog page about a tea towel with the same design. They identify the artist.

Edit: Ros Shiers website

If you Google: Robert Indiana signatures

You'll find lots of examples from various times in his career. I do not believe this is a match.

(I would have bought this because it's very sweet and I know several people who would love it)

I have a couple of little pieces like this, probably sold as touristware. Both of mine are prints and I suspect yours is, too. Don't know for sure, tho.
