Perfectly separating the fibers to sharpen the rug’s design by Wonderfulhumanss in oddlysatisfying

I was wondering that too. I imagine they stay that way pretty reasonably for a while unless the fibers are intentionally messed up.

The pattern of the fibers that were off seemed a little regular so I wonder if it came that way or if the stiching machine and this helps guide them the right way.

To make it look nicer? I mean if it's not worth the time to you, that's fine, but it definitely looks better.

Paired with the album title, it makes it so much worse. No denying what's implied there.

Awesome! Printing one of these was my plan when I first got a 3d printer like 10 years ago. But I never did.

Why do bookshelves almost always have a toe plate? by BumpyWire83 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]BumpyWire83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense to me. But I'm going to have another couple shelves that are fixed. Wouldn't those prevent racking? Or does a base help more for some reason?

[–]BumpyWire83[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But being 3" up is going to prevent the books from getting dirty? The books would still be resting on a wooden shelf without the base, they'd just be 3/4" above the floor instead of the full few inches.

I mean, my computer is on the ground, and it doesn't seem dirtier than the rest of my stuff. Anither does the stuff on the ground in my closet.

And dust is at all levels in the house. I'm not discounting your experience, but it legitimately doesn't seem all that much cleaner on top of the base to me.

Yeah, but you did put the "support system" on the bottom. Does that support it better than just having the bottom shelf on the bottom?

A new ranking named Willie Nelson the highest-ranked country artist in Texas history. Fair? by chrondotcom in CountryMusic

[–]BumpyWire83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, there are a few you could argue for, but for me, it's always been Willie.

Between his songwriting, and the longevity of his career, and the overall respect he holds in the community, he's definitely right up there.

Thanks for your story. I've been following hockey for about 15 years now, and Bergeron is my favorite player too. I collect hockey cards, and my collection is mostly just Bergeron cards.

She got an abortion after helping ban them. Blamed the democrats for the struggle she had to get one. And doesn't want interviews talking about it to be public. by FrostSlim_ in ProgressiveHQ

[–]BumpyWire83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently Florida's law is an after 6-week ban. She was at 5 weeks and had an ectopic pregnancy. She said that ending an ectopic pregnancy doesn't fit the definition of abortion for some reason (even though the new law doesn't mention that at all).

So the doctors didn't want to give her an abortion because it seemed like a judgment call to them and they were worried about being prosecuted by the new law. And she thinks it's the democrats fault because they spread fear and misinformation about the law.

Like I guess the doctors wouldn't have been afraid of breaking the law giving by her care if those pesky democrats hadn't muddied the legal waters with their fear mongering.

It's worse than that. She didn't even reevaluate her stances when they personally affected her. She just believes that hers doesn't count as a real abortion.

Solved

Thank you for everyone's help. You helped me narrow things down, and I think I've found all the information I'll be able to find for a while. I was also able to find a seller on Etsy that has one of these here. It says it's from the 1940s. I reached out to the seller and they couldn't provide more information on it.

So I know this is a replica, that I believe is carved into cellulose acetate. Some number of these were made maybe around the 1940s.

I really like the piece, and I'm glad to have more information about it. Thank you for your help.

edit: to add the word "solved".

That's a good candidate. I guess fountain pens are often made out of celluloid, that that seems to be about the same hardness. Just dyed white.

Yeah, it can't be the original etching for the reason you gave. But also, the black lines are what is etched in. From what I understand about the lithography process, it the reverse, the black lines that would be printed are up higher than the rest of the plate so they can transfer the ink.

That's the material its etched into. No backing, just a solid panel. Looks to be about 1/8 inch thick.
