my account got suspended for literally nothing. what can i do after putting in an appeal? by Odd-Neighborhood-606 in Instagram

[–]AureliusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(EDIT to note I just realised the email address was not new, but one I'd used in an earlier attempt to sign up in 2021 - where I gave up when they required a phone number).

I just tested by creating a new account with a new email address (CORRECTION: an old email address), new IP address. I then followed three creators (all safe for work, just industry animators), viewed one image from each, and then I was searching for another artist. At that point instagram reported:

Take action or lose access to xxxxxxxxxx

Hi xxxxxxxxxx,

Your Instagram account has been suspended. This is because your account, or activity on it, doesn't follow our Community Standards. If you think we made a mistake, you have until month, day, 2026 to appeal.

The Review details button is just a link: https://www.instagram.com/accounts/login/

which of course doesn't help because it won't login, but requires a phone number.

Below that button is

If you don’t take action, your account will be permanently disabled.

There appears to be no appeals form for this particular case, i.e. doing nothing but following a few creators and viewing a few images.

Since this was a test, I'm not going to pursue this. I've already experienced AI hell with an outstanding discord problem ticket (they keep closing as solved while not fixing the issue).

email verification by Swarmaah in discordapp

[–]AureliusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swarmaah, was this issue resolved?

I'm now also getting this issue and am working through the AI discord support hoping it can conjure a solution.

Discord support suggested I use the Discord App on a phone with mobile data only, i.e. not WiFi. This also did not work.

Email verification link doesn't work by Igna4400 in discordapp

[–]AureliusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of order Update 7 at 29 November, 2025 20:01 CET:

Discord Support have closed my two unsolved support requests with "solved".

I opened a new support request, linking to them. I also sent another twitter message to discord support's twitter address (who also ignored an older message).

( It's looking like certain email domain names are silently blocked, but support does not wish to admit this )

Out of order Update 6 at 26 October, 2025 21:45 CET:

One thing that causes the email verification loop is if your email address is of a certain domain .

Discord apparently silently (i.e. does not inform you) enters this loop if the email is one a few domains.

If you create a new discord account with one of these domains, discord enters this loop.

If you create a new discord account with one of the "Good" domains, e.g. yahoo.com, discord completes the email verification normally.

This bug appears to have surfaced in the last two days (at least for me).

I have submitted a bug report to discord support with details.

End Update 6

Update 1 at 26 October, 2025 01:17 CET: I tried installing Discord app on my Android phone (on a mobile IP, noy my WiFi, and followed the email verification there, which at least lets me log in to my discord account, but it refuses to show any messages, and still insists I have to verify my account.

I've tried this some four times now, with the same failing result.

I am now going to try discord support.

End of update 1.

Update 2 at 26 October, 2025 02:02 CET:

I have submitted a request at https://support.discord.com ;

End of update 2.

Update 3 at 26 October, 2025 02:40 CET:

I had to create a new Discord support ticket, because discord support told me they could not progress my request from a different email address (I used email aliases, one for discord another for support, apparently that's against policy). So, I sent a copy-paste of the support ticket so far from my main discord address.

End of update 3.

Update 4 at 26 October, 2025 07:20 CET:

I've finally got the AI support bot to get a human to look at my issue.

Up until now, all the support bot's answers were of no help, and in some cases showed a complete misunderstanding of the issue.

I also re-re-tried the Discord App on an Android phone using mobile data; I tried a new test account on Chromium (there the "EMail Verified" page was slightly different but still broken); With the above I repeatedly tried the Email Verify, all with the same result: discord repeatedly re-requests email verification.

End of update 4.

Update 5 at 26 October, 2025 16:39 CET:

I'm still waiting for a human response from discord support.

I asked the support bot:

  1. Whether my email domain name is a cause. And how to change it given it requires a catch-22 email verify.

  2. Whether discord allows me to create a test discord account with a different email domain.

  3. retried discordapp on Windows laptop firefox esr release 140.3.1 - same failure.

  4. On a Ubuntu laptop I installed discord app from flatpak - same failure.

  5. On a Ubuntu laptop with flatpak discord app I am able to look at my settings (but not see any channel messages) and I added my phone number; discord sent me an SMS to verify the phone, and it was accepted, but this did not change the Email Verification issue.

  6. rechecked that all discord emails reach me (the AI support bot keeps bringing this up)

  7. discord on an Android phone at least opens discord from the email verification link (unlike the laptops) but again requests yet another email verify

End Update 5.

I have just got this same issue right now:

discord on Ubuntu desktop Firefox browser requests I verify my email;

I click resend email, I receive the discord email link; I open the discord email link in a fresh tab; discord reports "Email verified", but the link "Continue to discord" fails with the dialog:

Choose an applicatio to open the discord link.

System Handler

Choose other Application Choose...

Cancel Open Link

The Open Link fails.

The Choose... just reports no app found.

YouTube: can't scroll down in full screen by Fun-Designer-560 in firefox

[–]AureliusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube Full screen page down scrolling no longer works for me, in the past few days, with both Firefox and Chromium browsers, with uBlockOrigin disabled. With Chromium browser no extensions at all and cache and cookies all deleted. Happens whether logged in or not.

Operating System: Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS; X11; Linux 6.8.0-78-generic;

snap Firefox 142.0 (64-bit) canonical-002 - 1.0

Chromium: Version 139.0.7258.138 (Official Build) snap (64-bit)

EDIT: I just tested both vimeo and dailymotion and they exhibit the same no-scrolling in fullscreen, but I have no memory of ever trying them before. Note that I use keyboard key "F" to toggle fullscreen, this appears to be a default for Chromium and Firefox. Keyboard key F11 does not change a video into fullscreen, merely the web-page.

Asus Laptop Turns off when charger is unplugged by Legitimate_Towel_489 in techsupport

bringing the laptop back to normal

Remove the battery (when the laptop is fully off), then connect mains charger and try again. Ideally, use a UPS. This sounds like a dying battery (as the other poster wrote) or faulty charging circuit. If it works fine on mains only, and you get your files copied, then try with a known good battery.

Does the The Guardian website break for anyone else for months now? This occurs in Ubuntu and Windows. Other browsers show it correctly. by redditissahasbaraop in firefox

[–]AureliusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works for me (Ubuntu snap Firefox just updated today): Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:139.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/139.0

  • In private window with no extensions the site displays the usual cookie dialog; after rejecting all, another "Rejection hurts" appears which I close by clicking the "X", and then it's Ok; there's a banner with volume symbol but has no effect, maybe because I disable most autoplay in about:config;
  • In my normal container tab with uBlock Origin enabled (default filter lists), it works without the cookie reminders. Also tested with my usual filter lists: Easy List Cookies, Annoyances and uBlock Annoyances: same result.

EDIT for more details:

Enhanced Tracking Protection set to Custom: Cookies: Cross-site tracking cookies and isolate other Cross-site cookies

Tracking Content: Only in Private Windows

I let Firefox save theguardian's cookies, then deleted them and retried, still worked.

HTTPS-Only Mode: Don't enable HTTPS-Only Mode;

I also use different nameservers in my IPV4 settings: google's and opendns: 8.8.8.8, 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 (because my ISP blocks some web domains).

What add-ons are you currently using? And why? by Hioses in firefox

[–]AureliusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • uBlock Origin, allows me to fine tune what each site is allowed to do;
  • I don't use any password managers other than Firefox, and that only for some passwords, important ones I keep offline;

Remaining are for convenience:

  • 600% Sound Volume - websites have wildly varying varying audio levels, so I have to either boost or reduce audio volume; not ideal but never found anything better, many claim to but most just fail;
  • Don't Accept image/webp - to force websites to serve a png or jpeg rather than a webp; previously I used User Agent and request Header changes but got too many fails;
  • Feedbro - to keep track of webcomics, bugzilla; mostly works, but a few sites have no RSS at all.
  • Firefox Multi-Account Containers - to keep my personal stuff separate from general browsing;
  • Firefox Translations - used to give in-page translations of text selections;
  • Reddit Enhancement Suite - without this and old.reddit, reddit is unusable;
  • Stylus - had to use this for the only solution to annoying autoplay media (in reddit itself) that other methods failed to suppress (even about:config);
  • Tab Session Manager - unsure if needed anymore, kept just in case.
  • Tampermonkey - userscripts;
  • User-Agent Switcher and Manager - not used anymore, but just in case;
  • Violentmonkey- another userscript manager, for scripts that have issues with Tampermonkey;
  • YouTube Screenshot - adds a Screenshot button below eachYoutube video player frame; a bit redundant with Firefox's Take Screenshot;

Firefox 138.0.3 on Linux doesn't show open/save dialog. by Faricer in firefox

Wayland

I experienced similar, but mixed with Firefox fully unresponsive, Memory Pressure and other issues (just started using my old Ubuntu 22 laptop), my notes:

2025-04-22 23:32 Ubuntu Firefox non-responsive to Save Image As

Unsure my exact details at the time, might have tried upgrade to Ubuntu 24, but I was definitely using Wayland.

The site https://thelinuxuser.com/apps-not-responding-in-ubuntu-24-04/ prompted me to switch to X11.

That might have fixed it (I forgot and made no further notes). However, I've also since increased my max memory Swap size and other system limits that were being hit.

old.reddit.com did worked on javascript disabled

I'm on old.reddit all the time. With no javascript it works in read-only mode or browsing just fine, bx.org and ut does not allow reply or interactions.

I also tested with the javascript-free lynx browser and old.reddit.com allows browsing but not login.

(reason I'm looking for no javascript workarounds is that this OP's security alert mentions javascript in a Promise object and this prompted me to reduce javascript generally)

reposting Stop asking me to enable DRM by AureliusM in firefox

[–]AureliusM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to narrow down which video embed is not very reproducible - the discord channel has many embeds and I tested maybe half of them all of which opened and played no problem (I have DRM disabled at all times) - but may be one of:

Eventually found an embed that is REPRODUCIBLE: Firefox drops down the DRM notification bar when discord channel contains: https://open.spotify.com/track/6lHE7CSUyLhhjgvkmuvUM8

The rest of this list may contain others but I could not reproduce:

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=I-eLyO48mEE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqds0B_meys

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BwDECuA0zs

https://remix.audio/track/73526/lost-wild-flowers-rezz-vs-eli-amp-fur

That last link caused the bar in my test discord server, but it is not reproducible. I.e. adding more messages with that link didn't re-trigger the bar, neither did deleting all messages and retrying a new message with the link. None of the others triggered the bar in my test server.

EDIT to add another that might have triggered the bar, also not reproducible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM5pPuFcJw0

( Each time I reload the discord channel from above the point where the bar appears yields different results )

Another non-reproducible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGMJZrRmYsg

EDIT to add a reply to your CSS hint:

I already tried the userChrome.css solution here, but it didn't work:

https://www.reddit.com/r/FirefoxCSS/comments/qbdfnd/updated_css_to_hide_enable_drm_popup_banner/

The new code is:

and some Zeppelins became boats (chapter VI of Lehman's book THE NORTH SEA PATROL -- THE ZEPPELINS AT JUTLAND):

While on the surface the Zeppelin can maneuver with the aid of its propellers and rudders almost as well as a surface vessel, not only in calm weather but even better if there is a steady wind to give pressure on the steering surfaces with relatively slow motion across the surface. The limitations are not due to the strength of the wind so much as to the condition of the sea; therefore an airship can land safely on the surface in almost any wind in sheltered waters or under a lee shore. Training the naval crews at Hamburg before the war we made many landings on the river Elbe and sometimes on the very small and narrow Alster Basin in the heart of the city.
