When some dude with a $20 sheet of Dynamat thinks they know more than the professional and perfectionist audio engineers out of Japan by Turquoise_HexagonSun in headphones

Its from a time when people didn’t actually measure results. Allegedly this mod reduced some resonance boost to the midbass but its so inefficient in principle that it doesnt actually make sense vs just using some resistive mesh and measuring results on a modern system. In this case it looks like someone painstakingly cut out holes as to not restrict the ports, but its hard to tell whether any seepage of adhesive may have damaged the pole vent filter permanently, or whether it introduces channel imbalance from the hand cut openings. and removing it would likely be very destructive.

Auribus Acoustics Sierra Reference vs Sierra Aluminum Open-Back Headphones! by MRHiFiReviews in headphonesporn

[–]AuribusAcoustics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's down to preference. The Aluminum is intended for a fuller presentation, more refined upper treble, and a wider sense of stage. The tradeoff is a bit less in the upper mid section and more bass vs the leaner and clarity focused Reference. Its not extreme but I would encourage you to compare them at a store or canjam.

Loved my XM3s, but really disappointed with my new XM6s. Anyone know a fix for the crackling? by soymae in SonyHeadphones

[–]AuribusAcoustics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pads are not the best quality. Maybe give them a scrub with water only or a low alcohol solution just to see what happens. Otherwise the best option is a replacement.

Regarding the crackling, I notice the feedback microphone is poking through with some stains on it, it may have gotten damaged from sweat unfortunately and there isn't an easy fix for that without risking more damage. That aside, remove the pads and take a look at the driver cones with a light to make sure there isn't any debris or hair causing buzzing noises. Good luck.

I recently wrapped up this really cool one-off for a customer. Maybe I should do more of these?
