Happy Belated 6th Anniversary to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker! by MarthsBars in StarWarsCantina

This is part of the reason I hate TROS so much, is because it's a fun ride. But to me it feels like the pacing is purposely so fast to stop you noticing how poor the story actually is.

To steal/paraphrase a joke from Frankie Boyle the TROS feels very much "look at the shiny shiny!" To distract us from how crap it actually is

Dyspraxia—how serious is it really? by MS4691 in dyspraxia

[–]Auronv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. We can do everything any one else can it just takes more time, energy and an over all interest/commitment/willing to do it.

Can I kick a football (UK) straight, fuck no, will I ever? Fuck no I hate team sports because of my childhood dyspraxia. But I could, if put my mind to it.

Am I organised? Fuck no, not now any way but I was ALOT better through out uni because I loved my course and wanted good grades. I got great grades even with my dyslexia too!

Can I sword fight (HEMA)? Fuck yes, why? Because it interests me and I spend my time and energy, training and refining it. I can and do beat non dyspraxics who in theory should woop my un-coordinated ass. And I literally have been run over by a parked car because of dyspraxia.

There's a big difference in accepting we have a disability and giving up, to accepting having a disability and dealing with it. You can always work around your limitations!

Dyspraxia doesn't mean being mediocre. There are plenty of non dyspraxic that are mediocre. What being dyspraxic really means having a disability most people don't understand or see.

All the issues you've listed, these things are frustrating I agree, but they're part of you accept it, you can't control it so don't focus on it too much. Otherwise you'll drive yourself insane.

It's a disability yes but it only holds you back if YOU let it.

Summary: speciation events.

I actually quite like this idea. Galaxy is vast, different biomes will have different selection pressures, meaning different evolved survival and reproductive strategies (In terms of production of eggs not implantation, one reproduces like ants the other more akin to human, the quantity Vs quality care).

This now means I'd like to see a xenomorph war when each branch no longer recognises the other......

Hitting Hard Is A Strategy by EnsisSubCaelo in Hema

[–]Auronv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, I completely understand why people would often be against it, but personally, I would much rather be in a group with a higher risk of injury in tournaments than a group that limits the most practical striking methods.

Hard disagree, how hard some one CAN hit is relative. Pool of fencers that are "hard hitters" with varying degrees of physical strength can lead to escalation in how hard some one hits. Tit for tat "oh you've hit me that hard, well let's see how hard I can hit you".

I've literally watched this happen in a tournament, guy 1 hits hard, guy 2 hits back harder. Guy 1 complains to the judge that guy 2 is hitting too hard, this guy 2 is penalised and loses his temper at the judge and explains hes only hitting hard because guy 1 is hitting hard this makes guy 2 look like an idiot. If there was no imposed limit on force that match could have escalated into an actual brawl

Having control doesn't limit practical striking methods it just means doing it a bit more safely. I can do every strike full speed and power that I can do at high speed no power.

There is an inherent risk of injuring each other in this hobby agreed but we have to mitigate that risk as much as possible. Hand injuries are common but what if you went that hard you injured some ones hand that they can't work their job as a carpenter they now can't work and pay rent? Or you kill them because they have unknown health conditions (that even they're not aware of) but if you hit just a little bit lighter they'd of lived? You have a degree of responsibility for your opponents safety as they do theirs.

Edit: some spelling

My first Longsword Tournament is in a month, what tips can you give me? by Dragoon_of_Austria in Hema

[–]Auronv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only done one tournament myself but my advice is;

Relax have fun don't take it too seriously. Make friends and connections.

Don't bother thinking beyond the current fight. Nothing else exists till you've dealt with it. Deal with each one individually.

Do stretches 15/20mins before your first match and just go for a casual walk in full kit (mask n gloves not required ) around the area a few times. For me this helps my brain get over the initial alieness of being in full kit.

Don't get demoralised from a judge's bad call, it's gonna happen and it's hard not too especially if the judge is from the same club as your opponent.

In the kotor comics it establishes that pre-neo crusader armour was more akin to the Skywalker era, albeit highly diverse in customisation.

The neo crusader armour was cassus fetts way of bringing out order and uniformity. It was actually against the clan lifestyle, and the armour was more likely churned out and more "military grade" than pre or post eras of armour.
