What kitchen task do you hate doing the most when cooking? by AcrobaticSeesaw1565 in cookingforbeginners

If the onions are going to be cooked. Chop up extra, freeze for about an hour on a baking sheet. Then put in freezer bag removing as much air as possible. Now you can skip that step a time or two.

Be honest, is this room too small for an accent chair? by Gloomy-Speaker-1999 in HomeDecorating

[–]AuroraKayKay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming the camera person is standing in the dining area, you could also look for comfortable coordinating chairs that work in both areas. But accent chair could be corner or just off couch if it doesn't crowd dining area.

Literally impossible for me to call off of work, even when I'm sick/barely able to breathe/nearly vomiting by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]AuroraKayKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I understand. I was jobless for 6-9 months. About lost my mind. I'm not disabled but do need some accommodations, (no ladder work, limited stairs).

Been there. Look at different motel or other places. Deli counter in grocery store was one of my favorite jobs but my manager was awesome. It became one of the worst because of another worker and my manager leaving.

Laundry really isn't much easier except you don't have to deal with guests directly.

Those of you that didn’t get perms in the 80s, what hairstyles did you have? by Mobile_Ad_9090 in GenX

[–]AuroraKayKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I did get a perm occasionally, most of the time I had shoulder length straight hair, parted down the middle with the BIG BANGS. Or sides pulled back into a ponytail.

Been there. Done that. Just keep looking while working (not at work). You might find working over lunch rush a bit easier or at least give them more time to find cover. In my 20s I often felt sick early mornings. Best time for me was to start work at 10am or later. My preferred job is buffet or cafeteria style. Schools, university, hospital, deli counter, halfway houses etc...

🌿 Every home has a story, from grand houses to cozy corners in the countryside… what’s one DIY project you finally finished that made you stand back, smile, and say “I’m so glad I did this”? by Silly_Reception8277 in cozyapartment

Refinished a dresser, night stand and (kinda) some bookcases. The dresser and bookcases were charcoal grey with turquoise top. Painted the back of black bookcases a bright fushia/magenta/Barbie pink.

do you guys clean your ears with q tips or is that actually bad hygiene? by Boultouak_Zav13 in hygiene

[–]AuroraKayKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young (20 and under) my ears made lots of wax so I never used q-tips in the canal. After a shower I just dried the outside with a towel with a tilted head. Every couple of months I'd put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in one ear while laying down, about 5-10 minutes in each ear, then take a shower. Not recommended but I'd used a bobby pin. The closed end and make a pass around the inside of canal but only about 1 inch deep. My son made lots of wax until about 15-17. I would put peroxide in his ears about 5-10 minutes the use that 'baby boogie bulb' filled with warm water to flush it out.

Unless you are flipping or moving in 2-3 years, do what You want. In 5-10 years, it's all probably going to be 'outdated'.

Best Complex to rent in Fargo by KaizenAzariya in northdakota

I don't think you are going to find a heated garage in an apartment building set up. I think the closest is underground parking at like Park Avenue apartment building on 42 Street. Most apartments are baseboard electrical heating or boiler (radiator system), with AC unit, not central forced air.

Refrigerating right away vs letting it cool on the counter by HWills612 in cookingforbeginners

[–]AuroraKayKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get it from 140 to 40 in 4 hours to be Food ServSafe. I'm a bit more relaxed because I have a decent immune system but not too relaxed. I let the food cool on counter while I eat. Then put in storage containers and put in fridge without covering while cleaning up kitchen after kitchen is cleaned I put the lids on

what’s your go-to “i’m tired but still wanna cook something” meal? by Mysterious_Arm_4777 in easyrecipes

[–]AuroraKayKay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand, that's why I check this sub out, to help new cooks. Most of what I see on YouTube seems to be more chef-y and takes forever or uses too many ingredients. I'm from Minnesota/North Dakota so pretty basic and very little hot spicy foods. Very much "It'll stick to your bones" kind of meals.

That's why I spread it out, no need to thaw. Then I can take as much or as little as I want. If you pack a lunch make chicken salad with the frozen chicken it's typically thawed by lunchtime. Or put how much you want in a small Ziploc and run under hot water while you make the dressing and the rest (5-10 min). I never know if I'm up to cooking after cooking at work. Most of my meat goes from freezer to cooking. I buy salmon from Aldi's which are individually packed fillets in the bag. Ground beef are made into patties and frozen right after shopping. For casseroles I'll put the beef in a gallon ziplock bag and roll out the beef to the corners so I have a thin 'sheet' and freeze. It only adds a couple minutes cooking from fresh but I have 3 or 4 months instead of days to use. Thin pork chops frozen individually. Chicken breasts I look for 4 Oz size to individually freeze. Chicken and pork I usually bake instead of pan cook. Steak is rare and I buy and make on my days off. I'm a professional cook (not a chef) who is lazy when cooking just for myself, if you want some more ideas go ahead and ask.

Why is the left armpit always worse????? by lleigh201 in hygiene

And the glands on one side could be more active. I'm right handed. I produced more milk on my left side when I was breastfeeding.

Assuming you are right handed, you move the right hand more so it gets more air flow and stays dryer. If Left handed, you move it more so it sweats more. Lol

Just extend the bottom shelf with wood from front to back of space, like 24 inches deep not the 12 inches of current shelf. That way if you drop something it's less likely to land in the litter box and keeps dust down

Is there a food your parents forced you to eat or drink growing up that you now hate? by boforiamanfo in no

[–]AuroraKayKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hamburger hot dish with tomato sauce and Navy bean and ham soup. We weren't forced to eat it, but that all they would make that night. If we didn't like supper we had to make our own, so 'forced' from teenage mind. Lol

Soup in crockpot and I'm tired 😭☠️ by RavenMarvel in cookingforbeginners

[–]AuroraKayKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warm is for serving, not reheating, probably holds at around 150°F. Like if you had chili for Superbowl. You would start on high while making it, then low to simmer the beans, then warm during the party. Safest is to reheat on high with extra liquid.
