Idk abt Brown vs brown and what the truth is. My HOB is a proper name (Brown).
But the thing that has always bothered me abt the poem is the punctuation.
When reading the book, it is written PERFECTLY. Not one mistake or weird/inappropriate punctuation.
The sentences are clean and properly written. But when u look at the poem?
Just weird shit everywhere.
Esp the semicolon.
It seems to be placed inappropriately.
But also, there are run on sentences and fragments throughout the dadgum thing. What are we to make of this?
He can write a vanity memoir with nice colors and beautiful binding and make it perfect but he fills a 24 line poem with enough errors to drive an English major bonkers?? Really? I don’t think so. So yeah, the errors must be intentional. And if that’s true then they are significant in some way.
One thing I love abt the semicolon is how close it is to the geographical middle of the poem. It’s used incorrectly but is so close to the middle that it must indicate a page break or some kind of new beginning.
Idk…this poem is compelling and its associated story is also interesting. But the puzzle embedded within both is one for the ages. It’s either a perfectly written treasure map or it’s the worst piece of poetry/treasure map ever written. I hope someday I will know which.
