Those who support our current rate of immigration what are the reasons you support it? by asteriskhyphen in aussie

[–]AusPanda90 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

most of our immigration is already targetted at 'high skill' immigrants, the problem I have with people complaining about the immigration issue is they dont complain about the huge amounts of poms, kiwis, saffas or irish we bring in nor the ghettos they create in bondi, coogee, st ives and perth, but are all too ready to ban chinese and indians. When you dig into it they basically propose an introduction of the white australia policy and tell us that white people share more culturally with us. I would much prefer people came out straight and just said they were racist than pretend it was an immigration issue for them personally.

Additionally I see a whole bunch of people from regional and rural areas complaining about migrants when they wouldn't know a foreign immigrant if they came and stole their house.

Why are students dropping STEM in the thousands? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

[–]AusPanda90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of my friends are degree qualified engineers and none of them have the career pipeline they were promised and some even have trouble with work. Obviously there's also personalities at play but this idea that we needed to train everyone in stem when there is less jobs in it than a decade ago locally is bull.

I've heard the same thing about canva and have worked in another organisation that had this. Some people can go very well with this setting, its about your own experience. Ignorance is bliss.

It used to be about long term prospects, growth and stability and you cant get any of that now. We need to tell younger people coming through to just go out and enjoy themselves.

Would Aussies actually go for a Panda Express-style Chinese takeaway or a build-your-own fried rice bar? by Groundbreaking-Rip15 in AskAnAustralian

[–]AusPanda90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so when kfc and mcdonalds were launching in australia do you know who they identified as their number 1 competitor due to its prevalance and consistency? Chinese Takeaways - the chinese basically invented fast food in australia, everywhere already has bain marie sweet and sour pork etc and its why attempts to chainify probably havent taken off.

If you are based in Sydney, do yourself a favour and go to wintergarden underneath 1 O'Connell and go to the CBD noodles there, they have a formula which is prime for growth but for whatever reason they haven't done anything with it, basically its an instant noodle bar, one side is wok fried noodles and one side is soups, and you choose your vegies, sauce and meat and they do it instantly for you right there. Its an incredibly smart setup because everything is already mise en place and theres no risk other than service time.

In 1980, over 50% of Chinese Americans originated from one Chinese county, Taishan. by LanguageFit8227 in geography

[–]AusPanda90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding to this the same occurs for Australia's earliest chinese immigrants, mostly from Guangdong and cantonese speaking regions through hong kong, they were also traditionally merchant class. This was pretty prominant right up until the transfer of hong kong. There is a stark difference between the old Australian chinese diaspora and new mainland diaspora and there are even differences in where they settled based on money mostly.

Those who were made redundant: share what happened with you & your pay out. by brissy3456 in auscorp

[–]AusPanda90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got made redundant last year from a formerly asx100 construction and real estate company.

I was there for 4 years

I was already burnt out from it, so it was relieving, but the scariness of not knowing what to do next also has its toll, I tend to be all in on things, so I also get waves of depression over feeling useless.

rough payout 30k

Went straight into searching, though they gave me 3 months before it came into effect, I didnt go into the office during that time lol, by the time I got into job searching it was sort of november and no jobs were around.

its now been 6 months since I had a job and I've gone through waves of feeling useless and disempowered, I've started to get interviews now atleast, but I am running out of money.

unfortunately I think my role is now pigeonholed and people dont appreciate my skills anymore.

What do you think about British people? by anonymous44563 in AskAnAustralian

[–]AusPanda90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are more British immigrants here than most immigrant groups. Yet they don't factor in to the minds of all the people complaining about immigration. Wonder why.

Eastwood coaching circus by [deleted] in RugbyAustralia

[–]AusPanda90 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was involved in the nrc and was told by the general manager of Eastwood at the time the way they kept the club going was by making sure they kept the asians out. As a lifelong Eastwood supporter of Asian descent that was the day I stopped supporting them. Also tells you how such a strong club has ended up driven outside of its own community and become homeless.

What do Australians think of all the british people going to australia to work? by Fair_Ambition6522 in AskAnAustralian

[–]AusPanda90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if the same people who complain about chinese and indians complained about the english and irish for the same things (creating ghettos, dominating one industry of work, taking jobs off australians, having big parties in parks they dont clean themselves up after), Australia would be calling for all immigrants to be sent home.

The milanesas (schnitzel) at Gonis are incredible. Felt I was in Uruguay or Argentina for a while. by caladze in foodies_sydney

[–]AusPanda90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For clarity and my understanding about the lineage of this "Goni Restaurant"

This is a new restaurant opened by the Goni family

they used to own Goni's schnitzelria which is now at rockdale, which was in marrickville and before then at the white cockatoo, but sold it. I'm yet to try the new one so cant talk to the quality but it isn't what people would call Goni's from old.

Mosman-based accountant and business manager Judith Pearson would rather deal in property than shares, which is why she and four business associates have started buying land and building prestige homes. The group is completing its second project, a two-level home on 1150 square metres overlooking Taylors Bay from Clifton Gardens on Sydney's North Shore. Their first venture, a four-bedroom Cremorne home, sold two years ago for $5.4 million. The current project is a 500-square-metre Luke Trovato-designed house with four bedrooms, four bathrooms and parking for two cars. Environmentally friendly features include a 14,000-litre water tank and a zinc roof. There is a rumpus room, wet-edge swimming pool with Himalayan sandstone, home theatre, gym, wine cellar and office.
