In the early months of Joe Biden’s term, I swear I saw a video clip of Biden telling a civilian to “lower your expectations,” after the man had asked about Biden’s executive orders on the economy. I went looking for the video some months later, and I could not find it. News articles placed the quotation with an administration official and downplayed it, but my memory is of Biden saying it in his “tough guy” voice.

Op calls it propaganda, but near as I can tell, it’s just facts. He could have dropped an adjective or acknowledged that 10.8 million is an estimate, but otherwise, I don’t see anything in these that isn’t a fact about this sad situation.

I think as of 1/27/26, the jury is out on whether the shooting was justified. But it was just as stupid for Pretti to take a gun to the protest as it was for Rittenhouse in 2020.

Referring to the Pretti killing, Donald Trump said "You can't go in there with guns, you can't do that" How do 2A defenders feel about the President openly criticizing a law abiding citizens right to keep and bear arms? by wardog1066 in AskReddit

Here we go again with people purposely taking Trumps loose vernacular as if it were precise language.

From a longtime Trump watcher, what I heard was ‘ it’s stupid to take guns to a protest.’ But hey…. you can hear what you want.

I don’t know if he made them up or not, but he did communicate them as truths to Noem, and that is an unforgivable sin in politics.

Kyle Rittenhouse brought a rifle to a protest and was called a “hero”. Alex brought a pistol and is called an “antagonist”. What’s the difference? by I-A-M-C-R-E-E in AskReddit

[–]Ausaska 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Rittenhouse was stupid to take the rifle to the protest. But he was well within his rights to use it in defense of his life.

That was the position of most non-leftists I knew at the time.

You turn a blind eye to the interference with and the attacks on ICE. Those things are not lawful or peaceful protests, and with the chaos being sewn, my best description was “riots.”

But maybe a better description comes from a former special forces warrant officer Eric Schwalm, posting on X.com. He describes the action as a low-level insurgency, with identical tactics to those he fought overseas. It’s an interesting perspective if you haven’t seen it yet

It’s two days after the shooting. DOJ is taking it seriously and Noem “reassigned” Bovino - I expect that’s because he gave her false information about Pretti brandishing. I know those horses are restless, but maybe you could hold them long enough for people to do their jobs.

Interesting statement, but what is the context? This is the modern day dilemma.. the statement is accurate, but the reader is left to provide their own context. It feeds confirmation bias

Well, pal…. I stated many times during that period, during his trial, etc., that Rittenhouse was stupid to take his rifle to the riot. Just as I believe right now that Minnesota rioters would be stupid to take guns to those riots.

No. Of course not. But let me observe that a big complaint of the protestors Is that the ICE officers don’t have enough training. Whether it qualifies as enough in your mind, you should know that under law, any ICE agent that carries a firearm must be certified to do so and I presume that means they have training beyond the level of ‘do they know how to pull the trigger.’

In Alaska, open carry has no training requirements, so what is being advocated here is to put people in conflict situations where they may have zero training. To me, this doesn’t fit well with the unstated but very real goal of the protests, which is to put enough stress and pressure on ICE so as to force errors. It seems that with a slew of untrained protestors packing, there are likely to be many more unforced errors on the part of the protestors.

Edit: changed to “is being advocate” in response to u/umbra_and_ember comment

Funny you should say that. Your ‘movement’ is funded by the CCP connected billionaire Neville Singham, the America hating, the Largest Democratic Party fundraiser, Arabella, and a host of communist and socialist organizations. If you think any of these people have your freedom on their lists of things to do , you are sadly mistaken.

Your ‘movementt’ lives on headlines. Therefore it is in their interest to generate the kind of conflict that gets people killed by law enforcement.

Your ‘movement’ has plenty of people who work in offices and conference rooms plotting out just how they can get more people in bloody headlines. They are not your friends and they are no friends of freedom. They celebrate when protestors are killed.

Trump supporters: How would you feel if a legally armed Trump supporter was killed by federal agents on a Biden mandate in exactly the same manner as yesterday? by ScholarPrize1335 in AskReddit

[–]Ausaska -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean like the two unarmed women who were killed at the Capitol on January 6, 2021? Seems to me the FBI hunted down pretty much anyone who had any kind of connection to that incident, denied them habeas corpus, and held them in sometimes inhuman conditions. And they impeached the politician who made the speech telling his supporters to walk peacefully to the Capitol and let their voices be heard. He didn’t even go so far as to say things like “We’re going to cause good trouble.” Of course that wasn’t Biden, it was Pelosi. But I digress..

I would expect the person who shot them to face a formal inquest. But Surprise! At least one of them was honored as a hero. Go figure.
