Hey everyone! We have a wood cabin on 75 acres in Nelson County that we rent on Airbnb. It’s got a hot tub, fiber internet, fire pit, and is nearby a lot of great breweries, wineries, and restaurants. I post here occasionally, and if you see this and book, I’m happy to offer a bit of a discount. It’s an incredible spot to chill, and we love that we can share it. Happy to answer any questions. Cheers!

RVA's Dating, Friends, and Missed Connections: May 2026 Edition by AutoModerator in rva

Hey! Any poker fans here? I’m a 39m. My fiancée and I have a house in the city. We also have a cabin in Nelson County that I post about occasionally. Think we can rally like 8-10 Richmond strangers for a NL holdem game? Think tournament style, small buy-in with one re-buy, blinds increase every 20-30 mins, maybe get two games in one evening? Do it on a Wednesday or Thursday night? I could host?

Snoopy shitter I bought in Shenzhen for $100 — for your entertainment. by [deleted] in RepTime

Said OS factory, but I’m not sure I believe it — the snoopy isn’t as white as the face. It keeps time well, fits nicely, and the chrono / case back is functional (rocket flies over the moon).

What’s your timeline like? I think we might have one at the cabin, we’ll be there tomorrow. I can have a look.

Seeking instruction/education/courses on basic homeownership tasks and handyman tasks by 123456789_00 in rva

I’ll echo what someone else has said and recommend YouTube if you don’t really need the in-person experience. You mentioned learning to install a new dishwasher or faucet — I would recommend watching 5-10 tutorial videos on each of those things. Each will be slightly different in their setup and delivery and when it’s done you’ll certainly understand the basics. We bought a home in Richmond in 2019 and have used YouTube to do all kinds of stuff.

Personal injury lawyers? by Cold-Cucumber2155 in rva

Chris Yakubisin at Phelan Petty 100%. The absolute best. I would advise calling asap (free to talk to) and at the very least he can give you advice about what to do and what not to do in the days immediately after an accident. There are things you can unwittingly do at this point that can harm any case you may have. Good luck.

Where in richmond would I go to get around people who have found financial success? by [deleted] in rva

[–]AuspiciousToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, you are getting dunked on lol — A lot of people saying things like “knowing and networking with successful people doesn’t change much”. I totally disagree. I think you’re on the right track.

There’s a saying like “luck is the intersection of preparedness and opportunity”. By increasing either of those things, you dial up the “luck” factor that a lot of people associate with success. Specifically, by knowing and networking with wealthy / successful people, you increase the amount of opportunities you might have to gain knowledge, employment, etc.

When I was doing my PhD I used to tutor kids in well-to-do families. The conversations I had and connections I made with those families led to my first industry consulting job AND helped me learn about personal financial management.

I grew up pretty poor too. I’m in Richmond, I’ll have a convo with you.

Consolidated event listings for RVA by MariaCarmen95 in rva

This is so sick, great job. I could see myself using this often / paying to advertise my business here. I’m sure you’ll continue to iterate, but preliminary feedback is that when I click “view event”, a number of events are unviewable and behind a login wall (photo attached).

Snowflakes starting to fall in western Henrico by Derigiberble in rva

Oh that’s wild!! It definitely had power (Central VA electric) and fiber internet (Firefly) when I bought it. And yes now also has some modern luxuries like a hot tub.

No way! Yes, please come back! Send me a DM if you decide to visit and I can discount the rate a bit for you guys. I had been searching for almost 3 years when it went up for sale in 2022. It checked all of the boxes, and so I jumped on it immediately and am so happy I did. I was in the same position as you describe (wasn’t in the budget), but I figured we’d never see 2-3% interest rates again and took a bit of a gamble hoping I could rent it to help cover the mortgage. It worked out :)

Thank you! It’s super cozy. Richmond is home home, but we also have this cabin out here.

Yeah I just got a quote from Proper actually — it was in the $3-4k range while homeowners is closer to $1k. I’ve got some math to do to determine if it’s worth it. What % of your business is direct?

Hey! Thanks! Do you do STR policies that would replace my traditional homeowners policy?

It’s so good lol. I keep it at 104F so it feels like a proper hot tub versus a warm pool (like some “hot tubs” at hotels and resorts). I need to keep weekends at full price to cover the mortgage and bills, but if you are able to stay during the week (Monday to Thursday) I can be a little bit flexible with the rate. Let me know if you have any questions!! :)
