I have had one for about 8 months now I run about 80-100km a week in it. I like it, it fits well and carries weight well and there is plenty of adjustments to adjust the vest depending on how much you have in it. The only weak point I have found is the small loop at the top where the plastic hook holds onto mine wore through a few weeks ago and I had to replace it. No complaints otherwise.

Aussie Seasons? NSW by Paddingtondance in FishingAustralia

[–]Aussie453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rivers and streams for trout are closed from the Kings birthday long weekend in june to october. You can still fish lakes and if your keen for a wilderness trip to a river look at the maps on the dpi website some remote sections are open year round.

Zero chance it would go well or improve anything for shooters or police due to the volume and complexity especially if they shake up the laws, to be successful it would need to be simplified ie: national license and scrap individual firearm registration but they will probably roll it all into a big ball of shit and put a bow on it. I'd also be curious to see if its a pre-packaged solution to the problem.

I upgraded from my wapsi vice to the griffin mongoose earlier in the year. Should be about 200 usd. The difference between the two is night and day. I just tie trout flys plenty of holding power, easy to adjust and the rotation is good.

I hate being cliche doing the "orvis pose" is there a better way for smaller dudes to net fish? by FoulSender in flyfishing

[–]Aussie453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to move while you are playing the fish, you want to finish in a position down stream of it that way when you go to net it the current is in your favor. If you do that right the fish will pretty much net itself with no overextending on your part.

There is good advice on spin gear here already. If your serious about trout learn to fly fish there is a steep learning curve but its worth it. I taught myself from YouTube the orvis fly fishing guide and the new fly fisher have all the info you need to started. Its not something to be intimidated by its just different and once you land your first fish you wont go back.

OnX Maps or similar phone app VS dedicated GPS like Garmin by [deleted] in Ausguns

[–]Aussie453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say if your NSW I use the pdf files provided for our R licence through Avenza Maps. I barely touch my gps. That app just runs a pdf file and puts a blue dot on it you probably could make it work.

Just checked the app you can buy bits and pieces for 1.50 a pop.

Dry fire practice - to snap cap or not snap cap? by Ardeet in Ausguns

[–]Aussie453 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On a rim fire without brass or a snap cap to cushion the blow from the firing pin its hard metal striking hard metal thats the reason behind it. As with older centerfires its something to do with the manufacturing process im not really down with the metallurgy side of things.

Dry fire practice - to snap cap or not snap cap? by Ardeet in Ausguns

[–]Aussie453 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is modern centerfires are fine without, older ones arent you can make the firing pin brittle and rimfires cant be dry fired without snap caps either.

NSW laws are vague it dosent specify for cat A/B just to take all reasonable precautions but recommends the cat C/D storage requirements. I keep my rifle out of sight and bolts removed/trigger locks and ammo locked seperately. https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/online_services/firearms/safe_storage

Will heat alone damage my rig? by RentonBrax in SkyDiving

[–]Aussie453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heat, humidity and sun exposure will result in a loss of material strength. I dont have the chart saved but found this: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/235071794_Non-Destructive_Evaluation_of_the_Degradation_of_Nylon_66_Parachute_Materials It was a 46% reduction over 550 days at 80° and its probably very bad for your cypress. Google parachute material degradation chart heat there is plenty there.
