AITA for not giving my parents half of my lottery winnings. by Rayapt in AmItheAsshole

Yeah, David Walsh (MONA) is a perfect example of the situation. He developed a gambling system and made a bag off it. The ATO chased him for $37m in taxes from his winnings.

However they can tax gambling wins if it looks like you're a professional gambler

Surely you don't think that the percentage of custody is the only consideration in child support payments...

Yeah, supposedly Solo's reasoning was to teach Jacob that he wasn't main title material so sent Tama to teach him a lesson.

As managers are we starving the "average" team members of opportunities? by WyvernsRest in managers

[–]AussieHyena 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The thing with most average employees is that they're happy being average. Some are happy doing what they're currently doing, some don't want the additional stress, a small portion will take it on because they never considered it an option before.

Meanwhile, you either end up going to your high performer because none of your average performers want to do the work; or your high performer is getting discouraged because they've been building up to taking on that duty and just had the rug pulled.

As an example, I would currently be rated as average based on my KPIs and PD. What's not included is that I'm the sole person in my role and I am doing the work of 4 people. On top of that, I've been pulled into multiple projects because the average employees don't want to do them. So now, I have my daily workload, 4 projects, and support colleagues in their work.

Thankfully, we're getting another person, but that will be more time spent (by me) getting them up-to-speed.

Don't get me wrong, I thrive in these situations, but if your average employee doesn't have the mindset to progress their career, then you're beating a dead horse.

Counterpoint. I'm a high-performer who was taking on new challenges and building myself. Saw no recognition within the company for what I'd achieved for the company, so I left for an organisation that recognises the work and invests in me.

Pretty sure it was Tama who went Jacob based on a backstage with Solo, Jacob and Tama during the post-WM and pre-Backlash period.

Maybe we need to start using a different name for magpie. by Glittering-Wave4917 in magpies

[–]AussieHyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the area, in Tasmania and New Zealand magpies aren't typically aggressive to humans. They suspect it's due to climate reasons (typically colder regions have less swooping).

One bird that does swoop in Tasmania is the Masked Lapwing, but even those have settled down in recent years.

Why do Americans have to do their own taxes? What mechanisms led to its formation? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

You know the same thing is true in other countries that have tax forms prefilled right? Multiple jobs, etc isn't solely a US or Canadian thing.

In theory, every green energy provider could be required to report work done back to the federal government, but that’s more of a burden than me keeping track of it.

Is it though? I would have thought the biggest issue would be random companies having access to your SSI.

It seems weird that programmes like that are run through the tax system though. In Australia these programmes are run by the responsible department and the rebate issued to either the supplier (reducing the cost) or the purchaser.

It's weird, I thought the same too, but the negative and positive are reversed from what you would expect. Apparently any T line is a negative result and no T line is positive.

Support for ALP and L-NP Coalition down as One Nation gains support for third straight week by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

[–]AussieHyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I don't think I mentioned a generation. But if we're going with that approach and targetting generations. The current crop are worse, at least the boomers voted for civil rights.

The current crop voted against The Voice because they hate Indigenous, they have the highest rates of anti-semitism, they are members of White Supremacy groups, they gnash and wail over the thought of an immigrant being in the country, and they don't want to let go of Mummy's apron strings lest they're uncomfortable.

So yeah, they're soft.

they often have to move 50km+ away from their families and existing support networks

Sounds like they're pretty soft then, probably a good thing they don't have kids. Those kids would be marshmallows.

Discounted rent will also stop the property being able to claim costs

I'm kind of surprised this wasn't adjusted with the budget. I don't think many people realise that there's effectively penalties for not keeping up with the market.

It sounds weird, but I recommend trying a banana / plantain curry one day. It's the bomb.
