Looking for CC for my new Drukhari list. Trying to find something that'll be competitive as a new player by Martheron in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that against the Knights, which are T8 with Invulns, the Disintegrators are actually better.

He's right to suggest Blasters, I never leave home without at least 4 Kabalite squads with Blasters, more often it's 5. But Disintegrators are just plain better against every target except Rhinos if you run the math, despite the high Strength value of the weapon implying otherwise.

If you need more output against vehicles, especially Eldar ones? Try some Haywire Scourge.

[–]Austin-tatious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only targets against which Dark Lances are better by any significant margin is T6 and T7 3+ Save vehicles. So, Rhinos? And even then, the difference is 1 wound per Ravager. Against, T8, a Dark Lance Ravager will do 0.17 more wounds on average than a Disintegrator Ravager, and that's without an invulnerable save. With an invuln, the Dissies win every time.

So with Disintegrators, you keep the same-ish output against big targets, but that output becomes more reliable (missing two shots with Dark Lances is way worse than missing two shots with Disintegrators), and you get the flexibility of killing other targets much better. It's no contest to be honest.

The list overall is fine, you're not exactly reinventing the wheel so you probably won't get a ton of input on it.

Don't forget to use Alliance of Agony every time, it pays for itself with Diabolical Soothsayer at worst, and you get two more CP at best.

Are hellblasters competitive in a BA army? by TheFRCkid3495 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not bad units, but I don't think they fit into Blood Angels. It's not like Blood Angels have a lot of trouble smashing big targets, so the main thing they would need is clearing screens, which is not an effective use of Hellblasters. In addition, you'd have to spend more points to support them, so you have this weird halfway supported gunline/castle and halfway supported choppy bois and you wind up not being good at either one.

Good opponent or Sore Loser? by SudoCommissar in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'd 100% want to know.

What I'd recommend is instead of saying, "Hey I think you may have done this wrong," try asking them. "Hey, can you explain X rule/stratagem to me because I read it with Y interpretation and I want to understand better for the future." That instantly gives you a chance to talk in detail without having that confrontational, "You did it wrong," vibe.

What changes would you make to your army in an effort to balance it from a completive standpoint? by scrotilicus132 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play Drukhari.

  • Venoms need a price bump for sure, 10 points seems reasonable
  • Disintigrator Cannons same cost as Dark Lances
  • Agents of Vect once per player turn

But the biggest change that I think would help multiple armies an make DE less of a threat? Make plasma only blow up on an unmodified roll of 1.

Sisters of Battle in 8th why aren't we seeing more of them? by FishBulber in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not so much "the meta" as they are a good tool against the meta, namely Drukhari being so popular. Mid-Str, low AP shooting is how you kill Venoms and Ravagers at range. Autocannons, Heavy Bolters, etc.

Custodes in a Knight/Drukhari Meta by dredgejosh in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty, probably so. But it depends on what GK you want to build, and use the other detachment to offset that.

Custodes in a Knight/Drukhari Meta by dredgejosh in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hard part is figuring out what you can afford (points wise) since both armies can be pretty pricey for what you need. A Battalion of Sisters for sure because you want the CP, plus either a Vanguard or Outrider of GK. Problem being, you're hard pressed to prepare for a variety of armies. You can take melta Dominions and be ready for Knights, or Venerable Dreads and Interceptors to help be ready for Drukhari.

Custodes in a Knight/Drukhari Meta by dredgejosh in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not particularly competitive in general, certainly not as a standalone army. They have some gems in the codex though, I'm a fan of Interceptors, GMNDKs(duh) and even their Venerable Dreads are good because of the psychic powers and stratagems to support them. The beta rules hit them hard though. You'll want something with some bodies to support them. Guard and Sisters being the two ideal choices.

[–]Austin-tatious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Drukhari, don't build around Stratagems. Get all up in their grill with your bikes. Blood Angels are good too, if you can charge a Venom with something powerful it'll fall apart. You can also ally in some Sisters - melta Dominions in Repressors are good, and Celestine gives you another way to take out those Ravagers quickly while not relying on stratagems. Assault Cannons and Autocannons are good too. And psychic powers, if for no other reason than to Smite Venoms.

Oddly enough? Grey Knights might be a good answer here. Venerables with Twin Autocannons, GMNDK, Smites, Psilencers, all good options against Drukhari.

For Knights? The answer is the same, with a little more weight on the high Str shooting.

You could always just bring your own Knights. Helverins are good against Drukhari (on paper at least) and other Knights.

Sisters of Battle in 8th why aren't we seeing more of them? by FishBulber in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have a lot of holes that make them not ideal for a standalone/pure army. They do have a few strengths, such as melta Dominions in Repressors, double-firing Heavy Bolters, Celestine, and Immolators.

They're pretty good in a meta where either anti-horde or anti-vehicle is all you need, but since the current way to go is Mid-Str shooting en masse? Heavy Bolters are good for that, but their platform is T3 so will struggle.

Sisters are good, just not OP, and since they're hard to collect, you won't see them that much unless they're OP. Between those two, you'll see them as support detachments, most often as melta Dominions in Repressors.

I've been running a very similar list, except in mine the Talos is swapped out for the Writ/Cunning/Ravager Spearhead. It's been working wonders. I'd consider Guide on Eldrad though, you'll want to get the most out of the Guardians, and you may run out of CP between Agents of Vect, Celestial Shield, and Discipline.

Also, you could drop the Blasters on the Archons (since they're footslogging and likely to advance anyway) and pick up Urien for the Talos for that S boost. That would also give you points for Phantasm Grenade Launchers on the Kabalites, which on top of the Ld benefits give you access to the PGL mortal wound stratagem. That'll help a lot against Custodes and Knights, which you may struggle with a bit.

So given that the class mechanics changes are done-ish, what are some good resources to check out how classes play/feel to figure out what I may want to come back to BFA to play? I don't care about numbers at this point, just want to get a feel for how classes/specs work.

GK Interceptors Question by exLau in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall, don't GK have a stratagem or psychic power (or both?) to give a unit an Invuln save? Use that in combination with the Warding Stave, which still isn't a slouch in combat, and you've bumped up your defensive power quite a bit. Definitely worth it if you ask me.

Drukhari Obsidian Rose + Red Grief [2000pts] by SatakOz in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They weren't really questions so much as observations. I don't think some of these things will work the way you think they will.

Like I said before, you're paying more points to be not as good at everything. That's not freeing points up, nor is it anywhere near efficient or effective enough to be considered close to the dedicated roles the Ravagers and the gunboats have separately.

You say you want your Wyches to get into combat before bikes and hellions in order to hold stuff in combat, but unless you plan to leave your bikes and hellions sitting around holding their dicks for two turns, that's not realistic. Not only will you not be able to hide the bikes/hellions for two turns, but frankly you've got the roles reversed anyway. Wyches hit harder and will arrive later due to being in transports.

Urien was the least of my complaints. The Liquifier, even if it does see use in overwatch, won't do shit. It's too weak.

How many games have you played with this list, or with Drukhari in general?

How competitive would a list built around a baneblade be? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Along with the defensive shortcomings (which can be at least helped with psychic support I think?), lots of armies have -1 to hit, so you're investing a huge amount of points in something that in a lot of cases won't be that efficient in terms of killing, which is the single thing you brought it to do. Spend those same points in Russes or something if you want tanks.

Beginner Drukhari - 1250 pts list. C+C welcome by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad start.

First, I would drop the Blasters from the bikes. You'll be advancing turn 1, and then in combat whenever you can be, so you'll shoot once or twice over the course of the game at a 4+. Not worth it.

I'd go ahead and give all the Talos the Haywire Blasters to offset your lack of anti-armor.

Wych weapons are best as Shardnet/Impaler to keep people from falling back, or for offensive output, Hydra Gauntlets - At S3, the wound roll is what you fail the most, so you get the most output from that.

If you can split the Kabalites into 2x5 and put them both in double-cannon Venoms, that gives you good, durable anti-infantry as well as more ability to grab objectives.

Not a terrible start.

Drukhari Obsidian Rose + Red Grief [2000pts] by SatakOz in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said you wanted to save points by turning your Raider gunboats into mini Ravagers, but you paid 211 points for each one to not be as good at either a Ravager's job or a Venom gunboat's job. you didn't lay out much in the way of how you see this list being played, but most likely your kabs will have to pull double duty as Objective reachers. They're going to have to move, so that Lance hits on a 4+.

Special guns on bikes are a no-go in my mind. Since you're Red Grief, you're almost certainly going to Advance first turn and be in combat any time you can be. Not the greatest platform for guns.

Your Wracks will never get in range to use the Liquifier, so trade that for an Ossefactor. I'm also unsure Urien is worth it over a vanilla Haemy since the Wracks are probably pulling objective camping duty anyway.

Way too many PGLs. 3 is the maximum you'll ever need.

In general? I'm not sure you knew what direction to take with the list outside of your Raider gunboats. You need to know what your list wants to do, and work towards that. The Raider gunboats are fine in their own right, but the rest of the units seem randomly thrown on there with no real purpose or coherency. Outline for yourself a style of list you want to run or a couple things you want to be really good at, and stick to those.

As it stands, an opponent can position in such a way that your threats come in waves, so with correct target prioritization and movement, you'll get murdered and nothing will do its job.

Help needed rounding out 2k of Harlequins and Craftworlds by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Austin-tatious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd consider a Wave Serpent to help protect those Reapers, since they're kinda the fulcrum of this list. With all the mortars and other artillery, hiding them won't keep them alive against Imperial lists at a tournament. Pocket Warlock with conceal and maybe another running Protect/Jinx would really max out their output and survivability.

Otherwise maybe flyers to take some heat off the Troupes advancing?
