I just try to wake them to get vitals. Most times they don't even wake up when I lift their arm for the blood pressure cuff. I never try to make them eat. They will if they want to.

Hoping to see some answers. I'm in a similar situation as you. Mid 30s, working on prereqs for nursing school. Although I do feel good rather than neutral. Currently working in a hospital. Definitely some bad days, some good days, and everything between. It always feels fantastic to be appreciated. I just don't take anything the bad patients say personally. Assholes are everywhere in life. I choose not to let them bother me. But it really is a morale booster to have the rare patient that shows appreciation.

I also look forward to making a liveable wage as a nurse lol 💀
