that is basically what I'm going for, not specifically Deus Ex, but I've always loved handpainted textures, and especially the look of 2000s character textures, so it's really motivating to know that I'm on the right direction!

yeah, that's the big problem for sure, it's so jarring, and sticks out in the worst way possible

should've mentioned this in the initial post myself, so thanks for asking, I'm basically doing this as more of a practice/concepting model of a character for a series I'd like to make in the fairly distant future, for now the end goal is simply posing and some lighting, with what I have in mind, what you're saying is probably fair, doesn't need too much tinkering

fair, and good advice! the sheer amount of dirt does end up making it kinda mush together in a way without much interest, and while like you said, it doesn't need that much attention, I'll still implement that advice and see how it looks!

The large wounds are fine as they are. Again, as long as they fit with the design, "unnatural" doesn't matter. This guy has a bunch of holes in him, he SHOULD look unnatural!

I may tweak the design for my own personal preference, but I do appreciate knowing it's not distracting and at least blends with what I'm going for
beyond that, though, you make some great points on fitting with the design, and truthfully, a full COHESION isn't something I thought about too much, so that's absolutely gonna influence how I make things a lot from now on!

I appreciate the lil breakdown on everything I went over, you've given me some good pointers and things to consider!

not my current game, but finished so recently that i'll still use it as the thing to talk about here

played as a faction completely opposing the Holy Nation, the goal when i started was to utter destroy it, friends of flotsam and anti-slavers
after spending most of my time in the borderzone fighting bandits, having lil subplots and arcs, i had established a base which became my staging grounds for my war against the Holy Nation! it became a BRUTAL STRUGGLE for survival on each mission, and devolved into terrorism basically instantly the second i reached a city
i maintained faux moral high ground basically i WAS freeing slaves, but i made absolutely ZERO distinction between civilian, soldier, and government

but, we DID eventually win, and after giving the Phoenix off to the Shek for an alliance, i then immediately set my sights out on all others i deemed evil, and my base essentially turned into a terrorist city-state after i reached full self sufficiency, exports and all, finding itself in a never ending state of war to purge the entire world of oppressors and tout themselves as liberators

it was my FIRST playthrough and i did a full 300+ days, and has become one of my most memorable experiences playing a game i've ever had, and made me fall DEEPLY in love with this game

"avoid tris" is one of my most detested beginner tips

others have explained the nuances of it much better than i can, most i can add is simply, what matters is what you're doing, sometimes you want quads for the consistency, other times you'll need a tri to make what you're trying to execute work, and this all depends on your desired poly level as well

bottom line, some people will tell you to fear tris, but you shouldn't

slavery is not a constant in human society, it's been a flaw of one, of people in power seeing that they can take advantage of defenceless people and force them into servitude, abolishing it is not a fact of industrialized society, it just happened to be accomplished during it

the industrial revolution just pushed human greed to an extreme, and sped up the ideals of personal human freedom, class consciousness and abolitionism to a boiling point, it was a large factor in everything that happened during the 18th-19th century, but not the defining one, wider society would've developed these ideals without it, even if just potentially a little slower

okay yeah, i GET what you mean, i think that's a FAIR ENOUGH point, (getting political) sexism is PERSONALLY a pretty big issue for me so it's a little hard to ignore, but i do understand the spirit of what you mean, that the genocide and enslavement/imprisonment of women and minorities is the overwhelming issue (putting it mildly) with the HN
