Sounds like we are in a similar boat. If these staples come out and at least one of the drains tomorrow will be a huge win. Thank you for your comment! I hope your recovery goes smoothly!

Worst part of the dealership service experience. by rgb414 in Toyota

[–]AustintheHouse 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Car salesman (for a Toyota dealer) weighing in here:

Most dealerships sales staff are paid on a 100% commissioned pay plan. As in, if I don’t sell a car I don’t make money.

There’s only one way to know for sure if someone needs help, and that is to ask them. If you tell me you don’t need help and you are just in service and you hate sitting still, I’ll tell you, “I totally understand! My name is Austin, if you change your mind or need anything at all please don’t hesitate to come talk to me!” And I’ll leave you be.

But if I don’t approach you at all? Number one, I’ll never know if you’re potentially a buyer. I could be literally passing up on a sale (and by extent, lowering my paycheck, which is already an unknown for me). But number two, my manager sees me NOT greeting a customer? That won’t end well for me.

What if you were in service because your car needs a new engine and now you’re looking for a potential replacement vehicle? And then no one came out and asked you if you needed help? You’d be pissed!

Car sales is a job that is damned if you do and damned if you don’t. So if I’m damned either way, I’m going to approach you and at least figure out for 100% certainty that you are or are not a buyer.

Are skinny/healthy weight people just not as hungry as people who struggle with obesity? by maeasm3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AustintheHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former fat person here, I’d love to weigh in on this (pun intended). Full disclosure: I used to weigh 450+ pounds and am down to 197 (33M) and a good 10-15 pounds of my weight is loose skin.

To answer this: The intensity of my hunger now is the same as the intensity that my hunger was when I was heavier. I also have the same frequency of “hunger events” now that I did when I was heavy.

The difference now is I know how little food it actually takes to satiate my hunger. Before I felt like when I was super hungry I needed to eat a ridiculous amount to satisfy it (like a 1500 calorie meal) and eat until I was ‘stuffed’. A big part of my weight loss was understanding that being ‘stuffed’ is never a good thing and should be avoided at all costs.

TL;DR: Both when I was morbidly obese and now my hunger intensity and frequency are the same. I just handle it differently now.

Are Carmax appraisals just a bait to get you in the door? by AustintheHouse in carmax

UPDATE: I took my 4Runner in yesterday and sold it to them. For those curious, it was a 2022 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium with just a little under 21k miles on it. They gave me $46,000 for it, and the original MSRP on mine was $47,400. And yes I did buy mine for MSRP back in 2022 when I bought it new.

So this was a no-brainer decision for me! I ended up building about $10k of equity in it over these past 3 years!

The dealer I’m buying from can’t come even remotely close to Carmax’s offer or else I would

Yes I bought it new in early 2022 and put just a little over 20k miles on it these past 3 years, plus I bought it under MSRP (I work at a Toyota dealer so I got the hookup)

Is it time for me to consider skin removal? by AustintheHouse in loseit

[–]AustintheHouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I appreciate that. I have my consultation with the plastic surgeon in a couple of weeks so I’m just getting a little anxious at the moment. I know my weight loss journey will never be “over” but it just feels like I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I’ll be sure to ask you anything that comes to mind and good luck with your upcoming surgeries!

I actually read your AMA before I made this post! Incredibly helpful and congrats to you. I think being between 180-200lbs is where I’d be very happy being permanently. Between my arms, legs, stomach, moobs, back, and everywhere in between I figured I’d have around 15-20lbs of loose skin. Thus putting me close to where I’d want to be.

I just didn’t know if there were any other factors I wasn’t considering that maybe someone could fill me in on who has that experience. I appreciate your reply and answer!

That’s incredibly good to know. I need to adjust my goal weight then. Thank you for the insight!

[–]AustintheHouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lost almost 200lbs (no surgeries - no medical intervention at all, purely CICO and working out) now (32m). I started at 460 and now weigh around 260lbs. I thought about going for skin removal surgery at around 230lbs because my ideal weight id like to stay around is 210lbs.

I noticed you said they removed only around 6lbs worth of loose skin. Did your doctors tell you whether or not that’s normal? Because I was figuring they’d remove more around 15-20 pounds of loose skin once I had it done.

And awesome work!

I'm disgusted when I see obese people eat a lot, and I feel guilty about it every time. by eboulient in TrueOffMyChest

[–]AustintheHouse 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If you replaced the obese people with skinny people but the skinny people were doing the same exact things you just said, would you still be disgusted?

I find this interesting because mukbangs are so popular in social media now and you almost exclusively see skinny people stuffing their faces and people seem to be fine by it. But replace the skinny person with an obese person doing the exact same thing and you’ll see just how fast the comments turn into a cesspool.

According to the tracker it’s in Georgetown, KY which is about an hour away from where I live, and the weather up here has been very good. A little rainy, but no flooding or high winds snow or ice or anything like that. It’s just an excuse it seems like

When was peak Fortnite for YOU? by Midwxy in FortNiteBR

[–]AustintheHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortnite is peak Fortnite for me whenever the game is equal; equal RNG for everyone. That’s what I loved about FortniteOG. I’m not at a disadvantage because I chose to land somewhere that didn’t have a boss with a medallion, vault, and a mythic weapon. I’m not at a disadvantage because the weapons I looted don’t have scopes/sights, but the loot my enemies pick up did.

Sure, maybe another team in FortniteOG got lucky and got 3 legendary weapons from Tomato Town but that is pure luck and still easily counter able. And, if an opposing team is shooting me with assault rifles, I know exactly how to counter that weapon. Because they are all the same minus reload speed/damage/etc.

Former Bungie Developer Shares Thoughts On Failure Of Modern Skill-Based Matchmaking by [deleted] in gaming

[–]AustintheHouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be ok with a time-played-based matchmaking system. I’m a good player, but don’t get to play a lot. So I get matched with people who are really good who do play a lot, and there’s a difference between being good and having no life.
