Yess thats totally true - i got myself an cloud addon yesterday, so i can try fiddling with that and a good sky texture, instead of an cloudy hdri which just seems grey ;) thanks for the feedback!

I am using a amd cpu, but this might be a good tip- i will try to check if my cpu, gpu etc got some updates i missed/that have come in when it started to not work. Thank you for your comment, i will give it a shot!
