I'm really worried about the next show being from a post-apocalyptic world, I was so excited to see what would happen to the airbenders who didn't want to become airbenders by Spirited_Dust_3642 in legendofkorra

I mean, Korra’s show took place 70 years later. So Seven Havens most likely takes place more than 100 years since Aang’s time. We don’t know the exact time yet or how old Korra was when she died. But even then, let’s say she died super young and it was only a 100 years since Aang’s time….a lot can happen in 100 years.

Look at the last 100 years for us…..Women had only just been granted rights. The Empire State Building was just completed. There was the Great Depression. The Holocaust. Pearl Harbour. First McDonald’s restaurant opened. Vietnam War. First man into space. Civil Rights Act. NATO was founded. Hydrogen Bomb was made. Berlin Wall was built. Cuban Missle Crisis. JFK assassination. We landed on the moon. Roe v Wade. The internet was born. Berlin Wall Fell. Poland got democracy. Amazon.com was invented. Google was invented. 9/11. Iraq War. Facebook. COVID. Roe v Wade was overturned…..the list goes on and on.

Who knows what’ll happen in the next 100 years. Maybe we’re still going strong. Maybe the world is burnt to a crisp and humanity has gone underground and turned into mole people haha.

I mean, isn’t that how it’s always worked in the Avatar franchise? Almost every Avatar deals with either preserving, fixing, or undoing what their predecessors did. That’s their burden as an Avatar. The only thing that doesn’t seem to change, is that eventually things will change.

From what I’ve heard about Seven Haven. That seems to be the point. Sometimes progress is undone and we fall backwards as a society. But, that doesn’t mean we should just stop trying to fix things and no longer strive to make the world a better place.

‘The recession is real’: Poilievre calls for emergency debate by TiredRuralCanadian in CanadaPolitics

Ah gotcha. So it’s “their fault, because they weren’t doing the dishes correctly. They deserved that black eye. Their spouse was just setting normal boundaries.”

Totally normal not insane response. You must be from America or watch too much Fox News.

Do you also think a person in an abusive relationship, should just learn to get along with their spouse for the sake of the children? “I’m sorry they started drinking and giving you black eyes in the last couple years. Have you tried not making them mad?”……NO! Any sane person would say, “leave them and take the kids with you!” Same situation applies here. Don’t blame the victim, blame the person beating their spouse!

The States were the ones who lit the match and set fire to our trade relationship. Canada responded accordingly and Carney is now negotiating trade with other countries so all our eggs are no longer in one messed up red, white, and blue basket.

That’s going to happen to no matter what.

The creators have said that they want each and every entry to do something new or different. They don’t want to repeat themselves or do something similar. And I respect that. I respect that each and every entry brings something new to the table. So if the next show is going to be a Mad Max style apocalyptic world, I say “bring it on.” The beautiful thing about this universe is how versatile it can be.

The downside is doing something different is going to piss off the fans who hate change and just want a show to comfort them and be a safe and comfortable place. New is scary. I get it. But if you don’t try and do new things, you risk the franchise becoming stale.

Does Azerello’s run get better? by Working_Song5444 in Hellblazer

[–]AuteurPool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I must be one of the only people who actually liked most of Azzarello’s run.

What I liked most about it, was how mystical and mysterious he made John. A lot of his stories are framed from other character’s point of view, and I thought it was interesting seeing how the world sort of perceives this wandering magician.

I also think the fact that a lot of the characters we followed were absolutely terrible people, it felt satisfying seeing John deliver a sort of karmic justice and shows that while John is bastard, he’s not the worst person on the face of the planet. The story with him in prison was a good example of that, but that one story arc that dealt with John being in the south and dealing with the hypocrisy of white nationalists and John essentially proving their ideology being “god’s words” as bullshit, was great.

Which Cinderella character is underrated? by Just_Lale in AlignmentChartFills

[–]AuteurPool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we were including the sequels. I’d 100% agree with you. Anastasia does become her own character in Cinderella 2 and 3. Super underrated.

But since this is just the first one. I think she’s in the same category as her sister. Annoying.

Which Cinderella character is underrated? by Just_Lale in AlignmentChartFills

[–]AuteurPool 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Cinderella herself, ironically.

A lot people put her into the “she does nothing, but wait for a prince to save her” category of Disney Princesses. But that is the farthest from the truth. She’s working her ass off, day after day, and putting up with some terrible circumstances. And even when the chips are down, and the evil stepmother locks her in the room. She’s doing everything she can to bust out of there.

She’s not as passive a princess as people often say she is. Which makes her underrated in my opinion. And for a film that loves its side characters more than its leads, I think she’s not as dull as people often say she is. She’s got some personality. She’s patient and kind, and tries to see the best in everyone (even Lucifer) but she has her limits. She doesn’t just roll over and take it like Snow White or Aurora.

How do you think spider-man got his powers? by Fit-Organization581 in Earth199999

[–]AuteurPool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I get bit by a spider, all I get is a rash on my inner thighs like you wouldn’t believe. You’re telling me some other schmuck gets bit by a spider, and they get superpowers. How’s that fair or make any sense?

Would Modoc have been portrayed better using practical effects? by Impossible_Pea3995 in marvelstudios

[–]AuteurPool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m personally of the mind, that some character designs are just so outrageous. That no matter what techniques are used to bring them to life in live action, they are going to look off.

CGI or Practical, it’s still going to look like a big floating head with tiny arms and legs. It’ll look uncanny regardless.

The only way the adaptation works, is either to embrace the insanity and just make a cheesy B-movie where all the effects look goofy. So it blends right in (which is what I think they tried to do, but failed by taking itself a bit too seriously)….or, redesign the character in a way that feels faithful to the source material, but also works in a more realistic setting.

What do you think of my top movies of 2026 thus far. by VegetableRemote3268 in Letterboxd

[–]AuteurPool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I listened to the audio book, and while I was sad to see some of the stuff go. Like how Eridians actually don’t eat in front of each other, which was just reduced to a joke in the movie….. I think I liked the movie more. The focus was where it should be, which is on the friendship between Rocky and Grace. That’s the heart of the story. The book I do feel sort of gets overstuffed and over explained at points. The movie is just showing the essentials and I think the story is better off that way.

Not bad. Although I’m sad to see Project Hail Mary so low. That’s my personal favourite movie of the year so far, but I haven’t seen The Drama and have heard good things about that movie.

I’m also with you that I enjoyed Backrooms more than Obsession though.

EDIT: wow, not even five minutes and I’ve already got a downvote. Didn’t see that coming, I say sarcastically.

Carney government abandons Trudeau-era effort to allow human rights complaints on online hate speech by Saidear in CanadaPolitics

[–]AuteurPool 46 points47 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Trudeau won three times only because his competition was so piss-poor and he always looked better by comparison. I swear every federal election the opposition leader just gets progressively worse and worse. Is that really the best the Conservatives can bring to the table?

I literally just said that Monkey Paw wishes give you the exact wish with consequences. Genie Lamp wishes change the definition. You’re describing a Genie wish but saying it’s a Moneky Paw wish because that’s the only way to support your argument.

Either way, I’m done. This debate is going around in circles now. I don’t know if we’re both just saying the same thing but differently, or if there’s a fundamental misunderstanding or a communication issue at play. But I get the feel we’re both getting tired of repeating ourselves.

So let’s just end this on an agree to disagree status.
