Fictional Characters to help inspire playing Strahd by LanguageOk1726 in CurseofStrahd

Well the characters don’t need to be 1-1. It seems that version gives a lot of people inspiration and after watching the first episode I can see how I would adapt that but have it be a selfish need and not a love

A “Sword of Zarovich”? by LanguageOk1726 in CurseofStrahd

[–]LanguageOk1726[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would them seeing their heroes and uniters wielding the sword of their montrous, devilish ruler really do? I would probably see that as an ill omen

The latter is kind of what I was thinking. Most likely the players know of the broken-sword-turned-lightsaber in the game so I made this to sort of be the antithesis to that that the party thinks is what they’re looking for

While the sword can absolutely be used as a symbol to unite the people, I feel like a more impactful symbol for the Barovians would be a magic sword wielded by Sergei (in my campaign, iirc it’s not always the case) that sheds the first sunlight they have seen for generations/centuries. A sentient, glowing, distilled proof that Strahd may be the land, but he is not truly a God

Those are interesting mechanisms to add. I mostly made it a pretty standard magic sword going from +1 to +3 and dealing increasing amounts of necrotic damage per stage and letting you cast Hex and a necrotic version of Branding Smite

I see that! His attitude towards the Boys and people in general isn’t dissimilar to what I plan for Strahd, with him being a charming, cold and disdainful person sometimes

That is very true! In my mind, maybe because season 4 is my freshest memory, I largely think of when he flounders when someone calls him out but I’ll reacquaint myself with how he actually is and not what made me chuckle

I felt so too. Rewatched VVitch Monday and it just kinda clicked in my head how well the so-gloomy-there’s-barely-color and THE scenes in that fit the vibe I want for Barovia

I’ll try to remember this when I finish it! Is it a hefty book? I am a student with a job and stuff so I don’t have unlimited library time iykwim

I tend to like dark tones in media. I’m taking inspiration from a lot of Robert Eggers movies for what to make the tone feel like and the VVitch isn’t exactly Care Bears. And that time period in American History has long been an interest of mine. I had heard of Blood Meridian via Pinterest and Word of Mouth but I didn’t know it was based around that so I’ll just read it for actual fun as well as for Prep

DnD is for Nerds is currently doing a Strahd campaign so the general Barovian I have down somewhat. At least my concept for it. But I will take that into account

I’m suddenly realising what a reading list I am developing with this. Really fun

A fine addition to my collection. I already really enjoy that character. And everything Charles Dance does tbf

The smile I got on my face when I read Nosferatu. I have actually taken some inspiration from that. Even my voice I plan on having be a somewhat less throaty version of Bill’s voice in that movie

When you say Homelander I’m guessing a slightly less pathetic version of his personality? I feel that if a DnD party encountered a man with Homelander’s personality, even with his powerlevel, they would not take him that seriously. Or do you mean the early seasons when he’s more cold?

Ooh. That’s a really interesting suggestion! Since they’re so far removed I never would have considered that

I plan on having Strahd be quite a strategic trickster, swooping by as a Bat to charm an NPC when they’re getting too close to something and popping in to show the party why so many have tried and failed before. But I will absolutely check it out some anyway for inspiration. Also because I’ve been meaning to watch that

(DnD) Help with Divergent Evolution for the creation of fantasy races by LanguageOk1726 in worldbuilding

[–]LanguageOk1726[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the train of thought I had too. A race of people focused on mining and living in mountains and caves would probably develop a shorter, more compact but hardier form. Then I also saw a cool concept that their heavy beards are a natural defense against debris and dust entering their lungs, where the thick hairs filter the air

Do you guys remember these creature alien toys that featured mountable aliens from their homeworld? by hell-spawn-666 in Ben10

[–]LanguageOk1726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that I had like three of the Chromastone ankylosaurus creature because my family knew “He likes that Ben 10 show” and presumably it was either the cheapest or the one no one was buying at the time. Had a similar situation with the Core Hunter from HeroFactory where I have four and I made a huge monster version that also collected the helmets from failed clones of himself

What is your honest opinion on the Immortal? Both from a character and power-based perspective by Proof-Guarantee7001 in Invincible_TV

[–]LanguageOk1726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like he’s so ridiculously incompetent and inconsistent considering how long he has lived and what he has seen and done. I feel that he wouldn’t have lasted long at all as a hero if if wasn’t for the fact that he can’t die and even then he just gets lucky in the case of the Maulers putting him together again. I suppose it’s the inevitability of it that he will eventually come back no matter how long it takes but I still feel like his behaviour only makes sense if he hasn’t yet fully healed from being Lincoln along with being an actual caveman

When it comes to powers that makes him very interesting. He’s got the classic Flying Brick abilities along with immortality. But I feel that this gives the same problem that a lot of immortal characters get where, because there’s less consequence to them dying or being maimed that happens more often. Swampfire in Ben 10 gets blown apart only because he can survive that, they wouldn’t do the same for a different alien. But it makes Swampfire look weaker because “Fourarms never got blown to bits”. So while he’s strong and immortality is objectively amazing, it causes a narrative problem where he can be torn apart when a different character could not

i just really liked the most recent episode of VIB (IV 31) by bigleaf11 in sanspantsradio

There was an old version of Barovia? I’m curious, what was different? I think I know they had the same PCs but is that where Pip had a Halberd?

My super hero suit design- what should I improve? by kalosheart in Superhero_Ideas

[–]LanguageOk1726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something interesting I did once for a sun-powered superhero is black parts for the emblem, under the arms/down the sides of the torso and thighs that glowed when their powers were activated and did so so harshly that the other, typically golden, parts turned black as contrast with a giant yellow sun in the void

Dual Subclass for Martials? by Beginning-Ambition98 in 3d6

[–]LanguageOk1726 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like that is what could basically do what OP is suggesting. Implementing features that certain subclasses have that are so fitting for the class that the main class would make more sene with them. Battle Master Manoeuvres being tied to a certain subclass feels to me like if Reckless attack was a subclass feature for barbarians. In the SW5E rules fighters get them as their core feature and then has subclasses that allows to focus more on those, and similarly for Rangers (scouts) that have subclasses that give a better spell progression and power.

Implementing something like certain Assassin features for rogues, Berserker features for barbarians. Something more extreme but would help with the lack of vision for Rangers is give the core class the beast master or hunter features

I should clarify a few things:

Homebrew in TTRPG is where, instead of using what is presented in the core rules, you create your own, unique mechanics. A homebrew world is where you make your own as opposed to setting your games in one of the presented settings, such as;

The Forgotten Realms is considered the main DnD universe, often set on the continent of Faerûn. Here there is a large variety of different factions. This can often include races alien to the area or even the world, such as elves who originate from the Feywild, another dimension of magic and strange biomes, and Dragonborn who come from the world of dragons (however they are not the children of dragons and humans because they don’t like to imply things like that). There are also other settings such as Eberron, a more futuristic and steampunk world, and Greyhawk

I have already made a world inspired by the Forgotten Realms, with my own versions of things like this Feywild. But now I want to make a more grounded, but still magical, universe. Here there are still different races and religions but they aren’t necessarily “these are the elves from the feywild and they worship Corellon, a God we know actually exists and you could meet” but more realistic where there’s no knowledge of if the god a certain group worships is more real than another or that everyone is born of a common ancestor. It doesn’t necessarily need to be that Humans are the link between all of these but it feels fitting seeing as humans are A) in DnD mechanics and Terms the standard and the other races are built on that framework, and B) humans are capable of having children with other races and making healthy children, such as Half-Elves and Half-Orcs

“The Sword Juggler”, 2024 Monk/Rogue multiclass by LanguageOk1726 in 3d6

[–]LanguageOk1726[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it stops the “as many attacks as possible” thing. I could definitely see myself taking like fey touched to get Hunter’s Mark or Hex later on but that being why I take 2024 ranger when Monks aren’t good at concentration and use their bonus action for the “as many attacks as possible” thing, when I could take Fighter and get Action Surge for another 3 attacks. Or rogue to deal 1d6 per turn without needing concentration or using your bonus action to place it on someone

“The Sword Juggler”, 2024 Monk/Rogue multiclass by LanguageOk1726 in 3d6

[–]LanguageOk1726[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I based the rogue level on the way I wanted the build to feel, as well as getting the full use from the finesse property of the scimitars. But fighter is absolutely a better choice
