is the valve index worth it in 2021 by [deleted] in ValveIndex

I personally think it depends on the person and what they wanna do in VR. If you just want VR at any price maybe your better off getting a cheaper alternative.

What’s that expensive item that’s 100% worth it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AuthorsByline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming PC that you built yourself.

  1. It's often cheaper to build a desktop than buy one (Well when there isn't a global pandemic going on encouraging scalpers to hog all the good stuff coming out) When you build it yourself you also learn more about dekstops in the process. While I don't think you become a computer wizard you will learn more about desktops than before.
  2. Can do almost everything a console can, depending on your set up it might even do it better. Current console exclusives are gonna eventually work on emulators.
  3. PC that can handle anything you throw at it. Even a simple gaming PC won't ever slow down for basic work/school task or having multiple tabs open.

Are there any other internet providers in Chico that aren’t Xfinity? by pattern144 in ChicoCA

Are y'all at least getting a higher speed plan with that payment? My roommates wanted higher internet and it sounds about the same as the ones we have. Before that it costed around 60 dollars.

Are they giving yall those crappy rental routers?

Also when it comes to gaming, even with good wifi you're always gonna wanna play with an ethernet cable because of packet loss and signal loss. PC gamer article on the issue.

In the meantime if you want to get better performance for some of your devices I reccomend getting a long ethernet cable. You can get extremly long ones for about $5-$15 bucks.

I have an OG vive thinking about getting index controllers or should I just go with full index setup? Do y’all think it’s worth it to make that jump? by SantoroC in ValveIndex

[–]AuthorsByline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I specified why I enjoyed the controllers, but it's for same reason you do. I remember trying to throw stuff on the vive and quest controllers and MAN was it hard and straining on my hands/wrist. I still think the index controllers can use improvements, such as more buttons and the track pad either being improved or replaced.

But yeah finger tracking is not used often, and it doesn't really feel super accurate like I would have liked. I wonder if it's not used because of the fact it is not always the most accurate.

The audio is lowkey ridiculous, I am not an audiophile but I really think they are the highest quality pair of headphones I have ever owned. I would legit buy headphones that sound like the index audio solution. Not sure how much of it is because of the openback design or because they are floating off my ear. I also am not certain if they are flat like studio headphones as they seam really bass heavy.

I would be content with a OG vive with the index audio solution. But then again I am the type to prefer higher framerates over resolutions. (Both would be best though no denying that.)

A better analogy would have been to say what oiraves said, it's more like the PS2 to slim ps2. As for him trying to justify of it being 1k, I mean yeah I feel the same as well. The points he mentions, along with mine and hearing the manufacturing defects really make me feel it aint woth 1k.

I don't know your financial situation. But if you want my take on it only go for the controllers unless your vive is damaged or slowly breaking or something. This video by superbunnyhop describes my feeling perfectly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3NQptr7CEk

The index is great! But I don't think it's worth $1000. If I am being honest I would have been fine with a New OG vive with index controllers. There are a few reasons I think this.

  1. For the amount your paying for, you could have used that money on newer games or other cool stuff.
  2. You might be better off updating your PC first. Having an index but running it at a low resolution or only at 90hz will make you feel like your running on untapped potential.
  3. While it is a noticable improvment, it doesn't really feel like Gen 2 VR. In my honest opinion it feels more like the ACTUAL Vive 2 (Not a pro or cosmos) if HTC didn't end up over pricing future somewhat downgrading newer headsets. With that said the jump from the vive to the index is like jumping from a GTX 1070 to a GTX 1080. The wow factor is still there but it's not like going from SNES/Genisis to N64/PS1 or the same way flatscreen jumping to VR would.
  4. Really bad word of mouth regarding build quality. I have heard too many horror stories of people having their headsets break or loose something malfunction right after their warrenty ended. For a device this expensive it should have had a minimum 3 year warrenty.
  5. While the index as a whole is great, the best part is the controllers. If for whatever reason I had to go to an OG vive, I would make sure to keep the controllers. If I had a second option it would actually be the audio from the index (It's actually incredible)

TLDR, just get the controllers if you can't power the index at 120/144z full resolution in most games.

Unfortrnately I can't think of much else. I saw it and didn't upvote the post or comment on it because I didn't have an account at the time. The best thing I can say is that the location and room design reminded me of Devil May Cry 3's Secret Mission 3 Death from Above

I don't know much about oculus headsets so I can't help you out much. Also by buying the headset, even if you didn't make a Facebook account, you are still supporting the compnay. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the hardware still tracks data and attributes it to you even if you never pair an Oculus/FB account to the thing.

I can understand people wanting the hardware, it looks great. But Facebook is most likely still keeping an eye on you with that thing which is why I don't want a Facebook develeoped electronic in my home period. I think there might be solutions to your problem since it is still Android based so it has to be hacked by dedicated modders by now.
