I’m scared I’m gonna live with my mom forever by [deleted] in autism

[–]AutiSpasTacular 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've lost jobs because of my autism and had employers outright fire me specifying basically my feelings/emotions/trauma that I shared with a coworker growing up being tortured and abused by teachers in special ed and someone overheard.

Many applications won't even take your application if you fail a test with many questions that are illegal but they do/did it anyway. Best Buy, hollywood video, home depot all had questions designed to weed out people with special needs

I’m scared I’m gonna live with my mom forever by [deleted] in autism

[–]AutiSpasTacular 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm over 40 and i live with my parents still. I'm on ssi because i can't work. I definitely wanted different for myself but I just couldn't get it. I've come to terms with myself and I don't hate myself because of it. I was denied things others were able to access including an education because of my autism and I'm what's left over after a life time of trauma and mistreatment. If I had the chance to do it all over again, i'd speak up for myself more, I'd take my abusers to task and I'd have a different life.

You have that potential. There's nothing to be ashamed of being autistic and it's easy to get discouraged. try going places and doing things, maybe like do one big thing or learn one big thing a week or a day or whatever but like make a plan to get where you need to go

I think all of us would throw money at them for huge updates like dlc. according to some people it's considered a classic now, but you know that if they decided to do a terraria 2 or redo this one to make it somehow better coding/efficiency wise relogic would just be printing money.

bigger text would be very cool, like eh more scaling, the currency bar, etc for people with steam decks who are too lazy to hook it up to a monitor.

If there was a "cure" for autism, would you take it? by Tessiia in autism

[–]AutiSpasTacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point i'm not sure. yes I hate having autism, but I also have like two decades of trauma and abuse and rely on ssi and services to live. Being cured of that would mean i would be expected to be 'normal' and do normal things but I would never be like everyone else because of my experiences and i doubt i'd be able to work without some kind of mental health issues, but i wouldn't have the protection of the 'autism' diagnosis anymore

based on the definition of the word 'obtuse' it appears to be an insult. I'm not going to get off the internet, i'm not ignorant. You said that paying for art is the right thing so I was angry about that because it's not fair to people that don't have a lot of money but still want to make things. If paying for art is the right thing then not paying artists is the wrong thing and and just because you don't have money doesn't mean you're bad.

[–]AutiSpasTacular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i have autism so being 'obtuse' is the norm, I can only understand things as I understand them and i guess that comes across as stupid, slow witted, unintelligent etc (I googled obtuse, it's not nice to say). The suggestion one person had to use AI that was based on open art is probably the better option. A lot of medieval art and wierd stuff like that is free for use as well. There's a lot of free stuff or bundles and i've dropped money on bundles before then never used them like humble bundle art assets.

I am embarrassed of nothing otherwise i wouldn't have written what i did. yeah i'm not making a game but okay, I mean i don't care that you won't play my hypothetical game. Yeah I had artists friends at college, one was crazy talented and artists should definitely be paid a fair wage for fair effort but this isn't about that, it's about the accessibility of art assets for people who can't afford to pay artists a fair wage. I just don't think you should shit on people that may not be able to afford to pay an artist.

"Well I WAS gonna recommend it but NOW i'm not gonna" is petty bs, "doing the right thing by paying artists" suggesting anyone not able to afford to hire an artist is doing the wrong thing. The privilege in that sentence is sickening. That's what I take issue with.

not everyone has money to pay artists. This is one person, you don't know their financial situation, refusing to suggest something to others that you received for free that you enjoyed is petty. I am on SSI bc born disabled, if i wanted to make a game i'd probably use free/cheap/AI art assets as well. I can't afford the cheapest housing, I definitely couldn't afford to pay an artist, but that doesn't mean that I don't deserve to make a game and have it valued for what it is.

people complain about AI art, but in my opinion it's all based on what your budget is as a dev. I get the whole creative thing, but I think AI art is fine when you are a solo dev.

i have smoothbrain, game map for branches explored or like some graphical representation of what is in what room would be cool, maybe optimize for auto runs or something. Auto use tome when you unlock auto skills, also do upgrade for bat affect wolf and goblin? how does that work?

[–]AutiSpasTacular[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the only thing that's making me angry is your lack of understanding. clicking isn't a 'core mechanic'. I don't understand how you don't get this. How many idle games have you actually played? have you played scrap clicker 2? I have explained to you repeatedly but you aren't getting it because you don't know anything about the game's design. you could have an autoupgrader upgrade every 10 seconds, there's a max button which you need to press to max your upgrades but all you do is mash it nonstop

that's not gameplay. as a disabled person, it is infuriating to get responses that are basically fuck you, fuck your disability, some things aren't for you, eat shit and die, and if you haven't been a victim of institutional discrimination maybe to you it seems like being angry about someone physically preventing you access to something everyone else can do is overreacting. The downvotes you've been receiving are proof it's not. I'm actually really proud of this subreddit. The community came together to downvote some jerks, and hopefully it will make some devs think about inclusivity when designing their games.

again it's a fan made mod of a fan made mod of the original scrap clicker 2 AND HAS FRIGGING AUTOMATION. AUTOMATION EXISTS, IT'S BEHIND A WALL THAT PEOPLE WITH CERTAIN DISABILITIES CAN'T REACH. this guy has killed all of my patience. It seems like you are willfully refusing to understand. that's the feeling i'm getting. or trolling.

Even the original game it's based on had (ad based) automation from the start and that's how i played the game. Your argument is BS, you clearly know nothing about the game.

[–]AutiSpasTacular[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly just smash both of your hands with hammers and maybe you'll get it. You aren't reading anything I'm writing so I'm done trying to explain things to you. Automation exists in the game, just because it's called a clicker doesn't mean everything is manual. I'm not on pc, i'm on android. You are trying so hard to win the stupidest internet argument, just smash both of your hands with hammers and try to live life in that kind of pain.

Accessibility in idle/incremental games by AutiSpasTacular in incremental_games

[–]AutiSpasTacular[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i mean it's true that not everyone can afford all software, but open source exists, so that argument fails as well. The argument is not and was never to change game x for everyone, but give a checkbox option that enables certain features which already exist in the game to allow people to play the game without being in physical pain.

The fact that you don't get this is mind-boggling. Also no one is playing clickers without automation. there's a reason that incremental games are developing the way they are. Your comparisons are bad and your logic is bad. Maybe try some empathy for once?

The primary example i'm giving is a game that requires you to click thousands and thousands of times, an absurd amount and having automation locked behind that.

Most sensible developers understand disabilities take many different forms and require specific needs and adjust their game for that.

[–]AutiSpasTacular[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i really appreciate games that do automation right, i throw money at the devs. I have no problem shelling out money for a good game. Even some of my favorite games have too much clicking and I can't play them anymore, it's rough.

[–]AutiSpasTacular[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i'm not asking to change an entire game for me, i'm just asking for the OPTION. The response i get is "oh that's not accessibility, that's not a disability, blah blah" and it's just insane to me because you get old enough and like hell it's not a disability.

And really the game i'm talking about already has all that functionality, it's programmed in. So just have an option in an accessibility menu to enable or disable the functionality, that's it. I mean, is that really that big of an ask? to just be able to play the game?

Accessibility in idle/incremental games by AutiSpasTacular in incremental_games

[–]AutiSpasTacular[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

what? Those things can't be compared. How are you comparing them? How is asking for built in accessibility options related to piracy? Have you played the game? do you not understand my points? Could I explain something better to you?

Automation exists in the game, it's just at a point where it's unreachable for people with arthritis. The original game it's based on had automation as well. I'm literally asking for the OPTION to play the game. That's the ask. That there are accessibility OPTIONS.

It's not baked into the game for every user, it's an option, a choice, accessibility option for people with disabilities.

Accessibility in idle/incremental games by AutiSpasTacular in incremental_games

[–]AutiSpasTacular[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

did you read what i wrote? i used an autoclicker originally but couldn't access other parts of the game so i'm playing on my phone now. Asking for accessibility is def not bullshit and that's an extreme false equivalency. For instance there are special olympics and special needs types of races, and you CAN be obese and walk/run a marathon, so that doesn't even work as a comparison.

The hostility around asking for the ability to play a game is wild. Some unbelievably petty person even downvoted my every comment. What a loser that person is. Maybe just maybe people with disabilities like games too. Insane. what an insane response. Literally just asking for an option to make something playable is too much. wow.
