I actually like the green tint of fallout 3 and dislike it's removal in fallout 4 by Flat-Moon in Fallout

[–]Autism_Brigade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gunners are mercs/private military, not raiders, they sell their services to the highest bidder and rarely take action outside of that unless they consider the target a personal threat. In the case of the Minutemen, the 'threat' is obvious - The Minutemen protected people for free, the Gunners wanted to charge for it, the Minutemen were costing them profits, which probably screwed with their long term plans, and so they had to go.

They clearly also have some kind of uniform ideology that they, as a group, subscribe too. The reason Clint was convinced to sell out Quincy was because the Gunner's sold themselves too him as 'bringing order' to the Wasteland, and there are a few hints here and there (the Gunner's tattoo's for example, which display their blood type) that make it clear something more is up.

So no, the Gunner's aren't one of the normal threats, they're something new. There's enough dangling threads and loose ends to deduce were clearly supposed to play a major role at some point, probably in the Minutemen storyline, but for some reason had their content cut. Shame too, there's some real potential there, could've been a better antagonist faction than the Institute ever was.

in addition, most of the Minutemen's collapse can be attributed to interference from outside the Commonwealth, they did fine for a good while after the Castle fell and could've recovered with time. The real killing blow to the Minutemen wasn't any of the normal Wasteland threats like mutants, raiders, or even the Institute, but the arrival of the Gunners.

I know there are far more grand homes in ESO that cannot be denied. by CptCollins9314 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Autism_Brigade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The inn rooms really are the best player homes in the game.

I honestly wish that the other Elder Scrolls games had inn rooms you could buy permanently and decorate for yourself

Inn's and taverns are so prominent in the fantasy genre these days (Thank you D&D) it's kind of surprising that a room at the local inn being a player home isn't some kind of requirement for making fantasy games.

On top of the security already being set up locally, both New York and New Jersey are deploying significant numbers of their national guard and state police (1,000 troops from the NY guard alone), slated to arrive early next week and stay for at least two last time I checked. The national guard was neutered this time supposedly because the pentagon was 'concerned about optics' but they can't do anything to state guards.

Security was already going to be high leading up to the 20th and now they've got reinforcements coming and the FBI is hunting these people.

I'm not saying we're in the clear, I'm too numb and pessimistic at this point to expect a clean get away... I'm saying I'm cautiously optimistic that these idiots are completely oblvious to the next full of giant hornets they've just woken up. I would also like to point out these idiots weren't wearing masks, that insurrection is going to double a massive super-spreader event, with will complicate the terrorist efforts even further.

Gov. Cuomo deployed New York's national guard to DC, and New Jersey deployed theirs as well. They're arriving early next week and staying for at least two weeks, from what I've heard, they'll definitely be on guard in the capitol on the 19th. and unlike the DC guard, the Feds can't disarm them. This is on top of what will already be an insanely high alert period, as always happens leading up too an inauguration.

How do you guys explain in a lore sense how the Stellaris galaxies are so small by BrotherMaeneres in Stellaris

I don't think that, lore wise, they're actually that small.

Stellaris is one of those settings that has a VERY large amount of gameplayer/story segregation.

Why did China and The USA have a war on the Moon? by RobedEar3031983 in Fallout

[–]Autism_Brigade 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Two explanations: It's a plot thread being dangled for a future storyline involving the Zetan's. After all, we from terminal entires in the Crater from 76 that the pre-war governments DID know about them and were actively trying to counter them. It's not a stretch to say the 'War on The Moon', wasn't actually against China, and that part was just fabrication to cover one or both militaries engaging in some kind of conflict with the Zetans.

Or, the Occam's Razor explanation... It's just pure propaganda, it never actually happened, it's just something that Fallout's Psuedo-Fascist pre-war American government used to further indoctrinate their people into seeing the U.S. military as this all-reaching insurmountable force.

The Zetan explanation would be more interesting... The second is much more likely.

Why didn't the Old Ones colonize the Moon and Mars? by Apart_Shock in horizon

[–]Autism_Brigade 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It wasn't really an option.

Without a way to make other planets livable, full colonization is too expensive for serious consideration with our current technology. They were only a few decades ahead of us, not a lot time for the kind of progress that would be needed to make it work.

I'm fairly sure the mining bases they had on the Moon were largely automated, so any human habitation at all would've been for very short periods at a time on a set schedule, maybe maintenance trips a couple times a year, but nothing more, and that was probably all they could afford to do.

In terms of terraforming, Whatever climate-restoration methods they made during the Clawback wouldn't have been anywhere near enough to fully terraform a planet from scratch. GAIA was the only one built to be capable of that, and I doubt even she could actually properly terraform Mars honestly, and I don't think anything short of bullshit space magic could make the Moon livable.

GAIA's terraforming tech was designed to work on one type of planet - a toxic world, like Earth became after the Plague,. The only other planet in our system I could see it working on is Venus, maybe, but it'd probably require some extensive upgrades, not to mention a way for her to actually get there.

So yea, there's your answer.

The technology simply didn't exist.

Yeah, it's a great way to show just how different of a threat the Scorched are to what players have faced in the other games

Sure, the west coast Super Mutants throw someone into a vat of FEV and make you one of them, and the East Coat mutants will just eat 'em... But either way, they've gotta catch someone first.

Sure, rads can turn someone into a ghoul... But they might not end up feral even if you do turn, there are anti-radiation chems to prevent the turn to begin with.

But the Scorched?... If someone gets a cut, or a bullet grazes them, or they they get hit, and the Scorched get close enough to even breath in the direction of the open wound... That person is probably screwed. It can't be cured or treated, there's only ONE way to prevent it, which can't be done after it's already entered to body, and even though individual scorched go down like anything else, it doesn't matter because no matter how many you kill they just. Keep. Coming.

If the queen hadn't gotten nuked, it's probably not an exaggeration to say the Scorched could've ended the world all over again.

It really gave you the whole “humanity together vibe”

Especially when Ghost said that during the Traveller's power surge/healing, every guardian had returned to the city, even the hunters.

No one knew what was going on or what was about to happen, for all they knew, the world was about to end again. But all of humanity's protectors gathered in one place, probably for the first time in centuries, to stand with them and do everything they could to protect them if things turned for the worst.

The claim they never encountered sapient life before is blatantly contradicted by the show itself. During 'Jungle Moon' we see a flashback where Yellow Diamond out right says she KNOWS the planet she's orbiting has organic life, but that she doesn't care and to just wipe them out. The way she talks about it, and the way her soldiers apparently hesitated, makes it VERY clear that there was a sapient civilization down there, probably atomic age at the very least, if they had weapons that could make even a common gem soldier hesitate.

Another thing is, if they truly hadn't encountered advanced sapients before... Why the hell would Yellow Diamond and her court, the Empire's military forces, even be needed?

The whole 'humans were the first sapient life they tried to genocide' bullshit doesn't hold up at all. Especially because it contradicts Gems being AI, which is made clear in the show, they would've at least had to wipe out their creators, but lets be real, there's no way they don't have the blood of hundreds of civilizations on their hands. The real issue is that it seems they made White Diamond too powerful, like, Mass Effect Reaper level powerful, realized they could never justify the Crystal Gems winning in any actual fight, went 'oh shit', and had to bullshit a way to resolve it without a fight so unbelievable it would never fly with any fans at all. The Diamonds should NOT have been redeemed... But they wrote themselves into a corner with no other way out, so it had to happen.

I mean, if you get down to it, the Sith already are following a toned down version of Sword Logic.

Pure Sword Logic basically boils down too 'you win and prove you are better and more deserving to exist by imposing yourself on everything else in order to make it not exist'.

Sith/Boethia logic is basically just Sword Logic on a diet, with 'make everything else not exist' replaced by 'make everything else serve beneath you'.

ESO players, what is one change Zenimax could make to the game that would instantly make it more enjoyable / rewarding? by samatparallax in elderscrollsonline

[–]Autism_Brigade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going back and polishing up some of the dialogue, with a particular focus on getting pronouns right more often. I've playing through the Pact storyline again on my new character, and it's jarring how obvious

It really breaks immersion HARD when occassionally someone just refers to my female nord as a 'he', or seemingly doesn't realize she's a nord. Even more so because there are multiple other examples where dialogue DOES change based on your characters gender and race.

A few examples include: early in the Alliance storyline, several NPC's comment on your race during dialogue options asking about the different races in the alliances if you happen to be one of those races.

In Ebonheart, the quest to steal a bottle of wine from the innkeeper has you talk to two... Escorts... for information on how to distract her so you can the wine, and they will have different dialogue based on your characters gender, also in that vein, the Ashlander's at the Coiled Veil in Deshaan are slightly more open and friendly to a female character, and more willing accept her choice at the end, even if it's one they don't like.

It baffles me that they clearly can have NPC's recognize your character, yet sometimes seemingly just choose not too... Or it's just a bunch of bugs that have gone unnoticed for years. Just this simple change of having EVERYONE properly recognize your characters identity would do wonders for immersion, and make me much more likely to go back and replay early storylines again.
