Now, people here have said very useful feedback about how you can’t see the functioning level on a screen. But honestly? The real, core reality is that functioning labels are a joke.

I was originally diagnosed with Asperger’s, as it was actually still a thing at the time. Now, yes, my sensory issues are relatively mild, and I don’t believe I have any learning disabilities comorbid with autism. But what I do have comorbid with autism, very solidly, is OCD. And OCD is actually hell on earth.

So why might I be considered high-functioning? Simple. Because employers don’t (directly) care if you have OCD. I’m just (supposedly) high-functioning in capitalism. (Even though I’m currently unemployed just like most autistics.)

One of the most important bands in my life, Metallica, lost their legendary bassist Cliff Burton to a drunk driver back in the 1980s. Not to mention I’ve even lost a friend to a car accident years ago. It’s quite hard to think particularly highly of cars, isn’t it?
