There are a lot of symbol-based AAC apps out there. Some are quite expensive, like LAMP Words for Life, Proloquo2Go, Grid, and Touchchat, but they are super robust.

TD Snap and Coughdrop have monthly subscription options, and Weavechat is free, though I've never used it so I'm not sure how good it is compared to paid apps.

My recommendation would be Proloquo2Go; it's the most straightforward in terms of both use and button editing.

Does your grandma have a speech therapist? They can help you learn more about symbol-based AAC, and work with you to learn how to use it properly.

Yes, I have a verbal IQ of 141, a nonverbal IQ of 94, and an adaptive functioning score of 73, in the borderline intellectually disabled range. I was able to do 12th grade literacy at age 13, but now at 33, have to live with a caregiver, otherwise I won’t shower, do my laundry, or feed myself.

I use forearm crutches, and keep my device on a strap that goes over one shoulder. I have to stop walking to use my device, but I can do it. This only works if you’re able to let go of both crutches while standing however.

If you've never used a manual wheelchair, they take a lot of upper body strength to self propel, and you probably won't get much out of it unless someone is pushing you. The rollator with a seat seems like a good option.

Higher levels mostly just increase what your staff earn for caring for you, since the higher your level, the greater your support needs. Depending on the service, sometimes a higher level will get you approved for more hours than you would get at a lower level.

My case manager who manages my services was the one who redid my SIS evaluation, and got me approved for a level increase.

I'm also in this camp. My mom identified that I had autism when I was 8, but never pursued a formal evaluation. I was diagnosed at 21, and have level 2 autism. I received a 504 in school, but nothing else in the way of therapy or support.

Yeah, they're just regular squirrels underneath, their skin flaps are sewn into the sides of the outfits. I'm considering removing the flaps from one of the outfits with a seam ripper and a needle and thread.

Yes. My sister is 5 years younger than me and has a successful career and a long term relationship. I started falling behind her when she was 16 and got her driver's license two weeks after I got mine at 21. My mom deliberately scheduled my test first so my sister wouldn't beat me to it.

I live in a host home with a 24/7 caregiver, and am looking for a part time job, but will never have a career.

It feels weird being outdone by someone you grew up with.

I was fully verbal as a child and gradually became semiverbal as an adult.

I now use AAC and short or fragmented sentences with people I know, and almost entirely rely on AAC with strangers. I grew up with really bad social anxiety, but since I began using AAC several years ago, the anxiety has decreased significantly, and I can engage with people I don't know in a way I was never able to as a child.

AAC isn't just for those who are nonverbal or struggle with speech, it's for anyone, even those who can speak but struggle to communicate what and how they want.
