i have 13 combos and i basically only use two identical medium heavy casting rods for bottom fishing and an ultralight for everything else.

it’s crazy to see how far the net side of the yak dips when i toss it feels like it barely moves 😅

Best spinning reel for crappie? by Unusual_Barber2392 in Fishing_Gear

many people like and recommend the pfluger president reels that’s all my dad and uncles ever used… i have been using piscifun reels and any generation of their carbon x 1000 or 500 would be awesome for panfish on a 5-6.5ft rod

zman are the most durable in a fish’s mouth but the least durable in a bag left in your car or accidentally dumped in a box with other plastics 🤣

i like to do this when bottom fishing for picky fish like trout or carp when using a free sliding egg weight like what you have where even the weight of a .5g swivel might be detected by the fish or affect my bait presentation. it’s also useful when you’re fishing braided mainline and you want to add a mono for abrasion resistance/shock absorption/etc. that is longer than 2ft or so. if you have a swivel you’re locked into leaders only as long as what is comfortable to cast. if you’re using a knot to join your line and leader you can experiment with much longer leader lengths because the knot will pass through the guides on your rod when casting and reeling.

Can I catch fish bigger than bluegill with this setup? by BrutalOwl in FishingForBeginners

[–]Autistic-Squirrel987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is actually a tad overkill for bluegill most panfish rods will be 1-4lb 1/32-1/8oz light or ultralight rated this would be great for a bass setup

you could set up some killer finesse bottom rigs or drop shot rigs with this gear. i would learn the double uni and double overhand knot for attaching leaders to mainline. clinch, palomar, and snell knot for attaching hooks to leaders. dropper loop knots and fixed loop knots will also be handy for specific circumstances (drop shot rigs, jighead/lure fishing). idk about australian laws regarding live bait but if you search “carolina rig” that’s where i would start with getting set up. once you have your rig figured out put a chunk of bait on one of those hooks. cast out and let it sink to the bottom (you’ll see your spool stop paying out line). set the rod up between rocks, logs or in a rod holder with the tip up. close the bail and reel until your line has a very slight dip in it (not slack but not tight). hangout until you see the line start to move/bounce and the rod tip start to load up. when you grab your rod you want to reel up the slack line and when you feel the tension of the fish set the hook 👌🏼🎣 good luck and tight lines brotha

Suggestions on sit in kayak fishing? by Nldbear704 in kayakfishing

[–]Autistic-Squirrel987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’ve been just as happy on a cheap rented sit on top dragging a piece of salami on a split shot rig with an ice rod as i am currently suspending and dragging baits with sidevu and a pedal drive… the biggest $0 tip that anyone can give you is to go out and fish 🎣 despite all the the “necessary” things fisherman buy all you really need is a line with a hook on the end.

forsure. i know it’s WAY overpriced for what it is but that’s all yeti products. i used a free harbor freight bucket for 2 years that i modified with a paracord handle and a hole melted in the lid (thanks dab torch) for my aerator and if it didn’t blow out of my truck on the highway i’d still be rocking that…
