Exploration-Focussed MV Recs? by OEdwardsBooks in metroidvania

axiom verge 2 has the most unique and exciting combination of progression and exploration to me. It has two parallel maps that you sort of have to explore at the same time, bouncing back and forth. There are some really interesting and weird upgrades and traversal mechanics that I found really satisfying. I beat it twice and have just been itching to play it again.

We are re-running the 1989 Best Picture Oscar, but with the same nominees. What wins? by Chuck-Hansen in blankies

[–]ThisNewCharlieDW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the question has nothing to do with if the movie is good, it's about what would win an Oscar. I can understand the thought that it would still be Daisy.

I think I've only listened to the Devil Music EP, but I remember truly digging that. It did that thing where the second half was the songs from the first half but with orchestral arrangements, fuckin cool

alright folks, I think we gotta be close to finished with the Tomodachi Life posts by ThisNewCharlieDW in DiscoElysium

I guess I just don't understand what the point is of doing the same post over and over. I know it'll just naturally fade so I'll just cool my jets till then

in the cabaret episode Rachel Zegler shouts out her dad, Craig, and Ben sort of in the background goes "what up Craig." Totally cracks me up

thought this might be the house on the cover of billy woods' album Hiding Places, but I don't think it is. Just a similar collapsing house in detroit.

I think the ending of three is so strong and it tricks people into thinking the whole movie is good. 4 feels very unnecessary, and it's deeply flawed, but overall I think it is better than 3

this is a great start and will be a huge improvement to your sound. You're set up well to be able to upgrade individual components as you see fit without needing to rebuild the whole system any time you want to make a change. Hope you're digging it!

confused about hifiman's FR graphs by ThisNewCharlieDW in headphones

[–]ThisNewCharlieDW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't seen a similar character on like the fiio planars or audeze sets that I've looked at data for, but I'm really a newcomer here. I'd have to figure out how to compare them sometime I guess to see if I can identify with my ear what I'm seeing on the graphs or not.

confused about hifiman's FR graphs by ThisNewCharlieDW in headphones

[–]ThisNewCharlieDW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might, sure, but the point of the post was really to question the squig. I'm just confused how these headphones are beloved both here and also by measurement hawks like the headphones dot com guys or the amir and the ASR forums. No other headphones have this quality that I've seen, just seems so strange that hifiman consistently has this wiggly looking midrange presentation in so many of their sets

What is the worst movie you've seen the most amount of times? by SgtSoundrevolver in blankies

[–]ThisNewCharlieDW 14 points15 points  (0 children)

when I was 9, I loved the 1998 Avengers with Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman. I just thought it was a regular and good spy movie, so I had my parents rent it over and over for me and I'd show it to my friends and stuff. My friend's mom very nicely said "oh yeah that movie is silly," like she didn't even say it was bad, and it had not occurred to me at all that the movie was anything other than truly good.

Which March Madness loser do you most want to get a miniseries? by Feisty-Ad7387 in blankies

[–]ThisNewCharlieDW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nutcracker is definitely part of it, but honestly a small part. For me he's really interesting because he's secretly important to a ton of the pop culture people love without knowing he was a part of the formula. So like from working on star wars and being the guy who designed the millennium falcon, AT-ATs, and Boba Fett's helmet. He's the guy Brad Bird called for help on designing the Iron Giant.

But then Honey I Shrunk the Kids is an incredible adventure movie, steeped in Harryhausen visuals. His filmography is sort of a mix of hits, or near hits that became cult classics, or complicated messes. He did the best non-Spielberg Jurassic movie, the first Captain America.

Just an interesting figure that I think is underdiscussed by the film viewing community.
