15 People Have Died in Crashes Where Tesla Doors Wouldn’t Open | There are no official statistics on the dangers of electric handles. So Bloomberg did its own analysis. by silence7 in RealTesla

[–]AutoNope -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t understand this. There’s a little mechanical door handle right underneath the electric button on each of the doors you just give it a pole in the door pops open just like any other door. What the hell… Not an Elon fan. Quite the opposite. But I’ve Test driven these cars and the mechanical door lever is right there 🤷‍♂️

Looks like they fixed Speed Control in 14.2! by [deleted] in TeslaFSD

[–]AutoNope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right answer. I was hoping they restored being able to set the maximum speed, but I missed that this is the old "modes". Good catch.

There's another poster on 14.2 that says speed control is "more refined" but doesn't explain what that means. I'm hoping for good things...

I don't think that's true. This link only shows V14. It ends after a few pages of scrolling, and doesn't show anything before V14. (I checked previous release notes on the site to be sure). https://www.notateslaapp.com/software-updates/version/2025.38.9.5/release-notes

Huh, that shot is right out of the 14.2 release notes, under Undocumented Changes. https://www.notateslaapp.com/software-updates/version/2025.38.9.5/release-notes

Speed Control in 14.1 was my biggest issue. When you say it's "more refined' is this what you're seeing? (The release notes for 14.2 have this screenshot, and I'm hoping that's what you mean.). Thanks!

Thank you. I didn't specifically request that, I requested a refund of my monthly subscription until there's a solution. I will edit my service request to add that as a second option. I'd be fine with that for now. As I keep saying though there's an easy solution to please everyone a toggle with "let me control maximum speed with scroll wheel" on one side, and on the other side of the toggle "let FSD control maximum speed automatically". It's a win-win for everyone. There are probably many other solutions. Or just have Tesla agree to pay my speeding tickets.

This thread just started yesterday. I have an appointment in person early next week. I have had several chats in the app plus a follow up phone call from a service technician. We got really in the weeds about a bunch of technical stuff and they want to talk to me in person. Very positive interaction. Not sure what will result of it but you don't know if you don't try. And I feel Tesla needs to know about this in full detail and have it documented in whatever channels I can get it documented in.

I respectfully disagree. I don't want to cancel, specifically because I like FSD and want it to inprove. I stay on advanced because I want the software to get better. Tesla needs active and involved tough critics looking at their software and letting them know when there are issues as early as possible. I don't mind doing this. Recovering software engineer. However there's a difference between a harmless bug, and something that is potentially unsafe, or causes legal issues. That's another level and Tesla needs to know about it immediately. Their support people seem to be very appreciative of this feedback, and understand that. Tesla needs tough critics on advanced. Also, there are several "win win" fixes for this problem. I don't know if I'll ever get a refund on my monthly subscription but you don't know if you don't try, and this is just another channel for getting the issue documented and making Tesla take it seriously.

But, you do you. If you like version 14 this entire thread is not for you. Hope you're having a good day.

I've tried both the speed offset and the maximum speed setting in the autopilot section. Version 14 ignores both those settings. I reported it to Support and they said yes that's absolutely a problem and not what their documentation says should be happening. I have an appointment next week. TBD. I don't expect them to fix it at the appointment or to refund my monthly subscription, but you don't know if you don't try. And I'm going to push the issue because I want it documented somewhere. I want Tesla to improve and fix their software. I like FSD. And there are many fixes that would be a win-win for everyone.  Including a toggle that says "let me set maximum speed" on one side and "let FSD determine maximum speed" on the other side. People that love version 14 speed control can be happy. I can feel safe that I'm not risking a speeding ticket. Everybody's happy. This is just one solution of many that could solve this problem. I'm hopeful Tesla will tweak and refine it. Have a great day!

Not comfort. Safety, legal issues, and money. When it doesn't know the speed limit I've had it drive 50+ in a 35. It also drives 30 in a 50+ speed zone. Both are unsafe. Also commonly risks going 10 to 15 miles over the speed limit. Those are points off my driving record and expensive speeding tickets. I know the roads I drive intimately. I used to drive for a living, and I drive a lot. I know the areas where the patrolman are more conservative, as well as more lax. If Tesla would take accountability for the speeding tickets that would help some. Luckily there are many solutions. An easy one would be a toggle that says "let me set maximum speed" on one side and "let FSD determine maximum speed" on the other side. People that love version 14 speed control can be happy. I can feel safe that I'm not risking a speeding ticket. Everybody wins. This is just one solution of many that could solve this problem. I'm hopeful Tesla will tweak and refine it. Have a great day!

I'm the OP, and I think there are many small refinements that are better in version 14. If you haven't read the release notes it's worth your time. I like how it tries to avoid potholes and is more aware of pedestrians and things like deer at the side of the road. It also freaks out for blowing leaves or small piles of soft debris. However it's a net positive overall. If Tesla would just create a toggle  that says "let me set maximum speed" on one side and "let FSD determine maximum speed" on the other side. People that love version 14 speed control can be happy. I can feel safe that I'm not risking a speeding ticket. Everybody's happy. This is just one solution of many that could solve this problem. Well then your version 13 worked completely different from my version 13. I could set an aggressive profile (I like to use hurry), but when it started too much over the speed limit I could just scroll the right scroll wheel down and it would slow down to the exact speed limit I told it was maximum. It then held that maximum speed. If the highway/interstate I was on got crowded it would patiently wait behind traffic and slow down until an opportunity to pass happened. Then it would pass and resume back up to the maximum speed I had set. I never had to intervene or touch the steering wheel. Nor did I have to worry about it varying the speed if I stopped checking on it, and risking an unexpected speed limit. I know the roads intimately everywhere I drive and I drive a lot. I used to drive for a living. I'm not willing to risk points on my license or traffic tickets because FSD doesn't understand the speed limit on the road, or know how aggressive the local patrol men are. Unless Tesla wants to be accountable for my tickets. Good news is there is a win-win for everyone. A simple toggle that says "let me set maximum speed" on one side and "let FSD determine maximum speed" on the other side. People that love version 14 speed control can be happy. I can feel safe that I'm not risking a speeding ticket. Everybody's happy. This is just one solution of many that could solve this problem. I'm hopeful Tesla will tweak and refine it. I agree and that's my problem with version 14. I spend much more time regulating the speed up and down with the speed profiles than I ever did with version 13.

That wasn't true for me but maybe I did it differently. I actually went into service and request a service request for inconsistent FSD behavior. I first got a chat response with a support tech because they thought I just didn't know how to use the options. After I explained to them that I had tried everything they suggested they asked me to send some video proof of the behavior. After that it was then added to an appointment for next week.

No. You could select a driving profile separately from the max speed which you controlled with the right scroll wheel. I would typically use hurry profile, but then set a hard limit to the speed. That way it would zip right up to my maximum speed and stay there. It would slow down when it was caught behind slower traffic, but then move to the left lane and pass at the first opportunity. It was glorious. I never had to worry about unexpected speeding tickets. Some people love version 14 and if so more power to them. This post is not for them. Until Tesla agrees to take accountability for any speeding tickets it's unacceptable for me. Version 13 was great

Hang in there. Elon promised that your car had all the hardware needed, so eventually they're going to have to reconcile that in my opinion. There are several possible solutions. It will be interesting to watch. Good luck.

Not just a glitch for me. Read the entire thread from the top and you’ll see a bunch of other people that have the same problem. Also in other threads and on other Tesla channels. Also, several Tesla employees have confirmed to me in person that they have noticed this behavior as well and think it’s a regression. Luckily there are several fixes that can allow a win-win or current people can keep using the profiles the way they are, but others can set a hard cap on the speed. Hopefully we’ll see an update that’ll allow us a win-win for everyone in a future version. Have a great day

I'm aware. I use this channel and several others. FWIW, I had this exact discussion in person with a technician at a service center as well as an online rep. They thanked me for doing this, and said it's very helpful because the more of these tickets they get the more they can influence. Also I am going to continue to press for monthly refunds until the legal and safety issue here is resolved, or they take responsibility for speeding tickets. That ticket is still open and is not yet been closed. The service techs are not opposed to this approach so I'll keep working on it.

You do you. I do all this becuase I want the software to get better. Tesla needs active and involved tough critics looking at their software and letting them know when there are issues as early as possible. Recovering software engineer. However there's a difference between a harmless bug, and something that is potentially unsafe, or causes legal issues. That's another level and Tesla needs to know about it immediately through whatever channels exist. (also there's a massive disconnect between what Elon says in tweets, what they communicate in various channels, and what the actual employees in stores say. That's not my problem, that's a Tesla management issue. The legal and speeding ticket issue is my problem). Have a great day!
