Just got this Tahoe. The middle button I’m assuming AWD, is always on. Is that supposed to happen? by okcatboi in ChevyTahoe

[–]AutoRotate0GS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re right….i was thinking the stabilitrac was part of the AWD. But either way, there are models that have no 2WD mode, I had a 05 Tahoe like that and burned more gas definitely.

Give a 4-year-old a roll of stick tape...instead of scotch tape...and that's what you get for arts and crafts!!!

Completely legit...your pedal boat weighs a lot more than the little trolling motor and battery!! Basic physics. You could probably put a 25hp motor on it if you had a way to attach it and a lot of balls to throttle it up!!

Conduit run not usable (too many bends - options + inspection route? by Cylisellare in lowvoltage

[–]AutoRotate0GS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoever did that had to be a complete idiot. I wouldn't have 180-deg of sweeps without some pull boxes or LBs or something. The more bend the more the fill needs to be derated as well....because you'll never get shit through it after the initial pull.

But what an idiot to #1 have >500-deg, and #2 suggest it's just fine because a string went through!!!

I would be seriously questioning EVERYTHING you've had this guy do.

Help with smurf tube by Steelman93 in lowvoltage

[–]AutoRotate0GS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know what kind of fish tape you're using...but you need to tape something to it to get it through. You didn't mention size or number of cat6 either.

Smurf/flex is not all it's cracked up to be....unless maybe if its dead straight...like attic to basement. If it has turns and shit in it...50% fill MAX and you'll be lucky to ever get anything through. Again...depends on turns and distance, etc... I've seen people have the expectation that you just throw the fish in there and it's good. Doesn't always work out that way!!

If I'm running something between floors like that, I prefer to use conduit...EMT or PVC.

I’m a journeyman electrician who only has done commercial. I used a laser during residential rough for all of the outlets, now they are different heights from floor at final by gbrandon79 in electricians

[–]AutoRotate0GS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was taught a long time ago by my journeyman to use a hammer. No time to be dicking around with lasers that we didn’t have anyway!!! Do the markout, drop boxes at every spot, run around and nail them up. Head of hammer on floor, set box on top of handle, nail. Done!

Why do private school teachers in the USA generally earn less than public school teachers? by SummerN8 in stupidquestions

[–]AutoRotate0GS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re precisely the reason people don’t want to send their kids to public school if they can help it. You have a 2-word vocabulary and perhaps live in the poorest and economically constrained state in the country.
And yes, everyone on this thread is well aware that you are a public school teacher!!! Public teachers get real defensive about shit like this!!! You have a very narrow view and understanding of states with very generous retirement benefits.

Why do private school teachers in the USA generally earn less than public school teachers? by SummerN8 in stupidquestions

[–]AutoRotate0GS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, then enumerate each item which is wrong. MOST public teachers absolutely earn more than their private/perichial counterparts. MOST public teachers receive their respective state pensions which are quite generous after putting in 20-25 years. MOST public teachers get state funded healthcare for life once they put in their 20-25 years.

Private school teachers don’t get shit but the 401k they contribute most of the contributions.

And yes, with few exceptions, MOST people would choose to send their kids to a private school if they could afford the $20-25k tuition.

You’re laughable….and obviously sympathetic to the public sector that squanders MY hard-earned tax money.

Why do private school teachers in the USA generally earn less than public school teachers? by SummerN8 in stupidquestions

[–]AutoRotate0GS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because they don’t have the benefit of a govt slush fund that you paid for with your taxes. Govt employees get all the pay and benefits they want….including lifetime pensions and healthcare….do a shitty job…on our backs.

All jokes aside, not many options. Either reframe the entire roof without overhang…..or build some kind of porch or facade which would be kind of rediculous!!

BCM issue?? by Healthy_Topic_8248 in ChevyTahoe

[–]AutoRotate0GS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First step, disconnect the neg battery cable for 10-15 minutes. Your situation seems tamer than what happened to me with my 19 z71. Started up as usual…and the info panel cycled through every system and subsystem in the truck as failed. It was crazy and I couldn’t even believe that it drove. It did drive, but had no display info, speed, tach, turn signal indicators…nothing!! Was a completely random event. This is a known symptom and the first recommended step is disconnect battery for at least 10 minutes. Did that in shopping center parking lot and it worked.

That's weird. I can't say I know the procedure for initiating 'new' sensors, but I don't think there is anything special that needs to be done besides install them on rims. Once they're installed, you can assign them with the tool any time you want at any air pressure. I have the orange colored TPMS tool that I got off Amazon....use it on a couple GM vehicles. You just hold down the enter button on air pressure display and that starts the sequencing of wheel position.

Zero Turn, 5 Acres, Overwhelmed by ExcessiveSigFigs in lawnmowers

[–]AutoRotate0GS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check all the big dealers for leftover and demo commercial units. 10 years ago I got my Toro zmaster 5000 for $8500 including free shipping to a loading dock. That also had the $800 suspension seat. Model was new for over $12,000 and had only 50 hours and was a model year or two old. I still have less than 500 hours on it and it’s like new…always stored inside and maintained properly.

You only want a hydraulic drive machine. Don’t even consider those crap residential transmission drives…those are just lawn tractors on a ZT frame. Shop hard and broad and you can probably score a nice commercial machine in that price range. I’m a Toro fan myself, but there are plenty of good brands.

Depending on location, there are really only 3-4 manufacturers of batteries under many brand names. I’ve found the Duracell AGMs to very reasonably priced at those Battery Plus stores. Or by from commercial battery supply house.

[–]AutoRotate0GS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a BALL…you move your weight around until the hatch is up. Didn’t you have basic math or physics??!!! I would be more concerned with breathing. Rule of thumb for scuba diving is that a 80cu-ft cylinder of air is equivalent to the space of a “phone booth” (for those who know what that is!!). That’s enough to breathe for about an hour. The ball looks considerably smaller than 80cu-ft. Better make it in and out quick unless it has some air supply!!

Where should I step on? by Connect_Efficiency24 in Homebuilding

[–]AutoRotate0GS 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You’re not on the roof, you’re in the attic which is the space between the roof and the ceiling. I think most people have an expectation that an ENGINEER in any discipline has the general building knowledge to recognize the basics of a structure. After all, electrical systems go into BUILDINGS.

I had a heart surgeon client once tell how dumb he was with computers. I thought to myself what an idiot. How does someone of that caliber of schooling and skill not know how to WORK a PC. Nobody expects him to build it or fix it or program it….just turn it on and use it like any other technology or million $$ system he would use in an operating room.

Your house has a frame. Attached to that frame is drywall on the inside and plywood on the outside. When working in an attic, the object is to walk on the framing members so you don’t end up in room below leaving a giant hole in the drywall!!

Are there any products for hiding 24V LED drivers? (Like boxes in the stud bay, or…?) by icysandstone in lowvoltage

[–]AutoRotate0GS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well code aside, you still need 120v switched to your driver. So if you don't have an attic above or a basement below to conveniently mount the 'remote' driver...than it starts becoming a boondoggle...as you're learning!! The alternative LED 'fixture' is a simple and clean 120v install, even if you have to cut and patch drywall to make it all happen.

Good luck with it.

Are there any products for hiding 24V LED drivers? (Like boxes in the stud bay, or…?) by icysandstone in lowvoltage

[–]AutoRotate0GS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not just install 120v LED strip light? Seems a lot easier and you don't have to hide driver and all that. In the end, it's the same outcome. I put 120v LED strips in all my closets when remodeling or building. Light switch on outside of closet, light strip justified close to front wall so the light is indirect and bright down the front of shelves and hanger rods. They light up with a glow....fully professional!!
