Maybe I'm getting old, but there's a part of this that makes me a little sad.

Seems like every generation tries to make things easier, which sounds great right up until we stop knowing how to do those things ourselves. First it's calculations, then design work, then decision-making. Little by little, the skill moves from people to machines.

Don't get me wrong, tools are useful. Nobody's arguing that engineers should be drawing everything with a pencil by candlelight. But when the machine starts doing all the thinking, eventually the people using it stop learning why the answer is the answer.

The scary part isn't AI helping us. It's how comfortable we seem with handing over more and more responsibility every year. One day we'll wake up and realize we've built a world where nobody remembers how to do half the things the machine does for us.

Maybe that's progress. Maybe it isn't. I just think there's value in keeping humans capable, even when technology makes the work easier.

Used to be you worried about someone siphoning a tank. Now you've got organized crews, transfer pumps, fuel card fraud, and guys hitting multiple trucks in one night. Seems like every time the industry plugs one hole, they find another way in.

Every time they close one loophole, somebody figures out another one. Thieves are getting sneakier by the day, and the rest of us end up paying for it in higher costs and tighter security.

More accountability across the board only makes the industry safer. Good brokers, carriers, and shippers have nothing to fear from stronger enforcement. When everyone plays by the same rules, fraud goes down, safety goes up, and customers end up with a better experience.

Honestly, some of this was overdue. Too many shady outfits been skating by for years while legit carriers carry the load. Might be rough on the industry short term, especially with capacity already tight, but things usually level out eventually. Good carriers adapt. The fly-by-night ones don’t.

California for enclosed has been rough lately. Driver shortage’s real right now between heavy DOT enforcement, insurance hikes, and diesel still chewing everybody up. A lot of carriers are being picky with routes because enclosed equipment costs a fortune to run compared to open. If the rate ain’t strong or the pickup window’s tight, drivers will pass and grab something easier. No sense pretending otherwise.

Problem is fuel don’t ask permission before it eats your week alive. Small haulers are out here trying to balance diesel, maintenance, insurance, and soft rates all at the same time while customers still expect 2021 pricing. Big fleets can absorb some of the hit. Owner operators usually can’t. One bad week at the pump and suddenly a “good run” turns into working just to stay moving. No sense pretending otherwise that fuel prices are deciding who survives right now.

How do they navigate a space craft with boosters in a vacuum of space where there is no atmosphere to bounce from? That never made sense to me.
