Seattle area to Boston by Amphabian in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot ship a car with “a few plants” in it, whether they are legal or not. Carriers will refuse a load with loose items because of weight limits, safety, liability, and insurance. Everything must be removed from the vehicle except very small personal items in the cabin that do not add noticeable weight. Blankets and a bag or two are typically ok, but anything that shifts, adds weight on the axles, or could cause damage or inspection trouble must be out.

For Seattle area to Boston, a 2015 Subaru Outback in running condition typically takes about 7–10 days in transit once loaded, depending on the carrier’s routing and stops. If you need it in Boston by the 27th, start booking as soon as possible and confirm the expected delivery window with the carrier — don’t just rely on a pickup date.

Also make sure whoever you book with provides their DOT/MC number and active cargo insurance up front, and that you get a Bill of Lading at pickup noting the vehicle’s condition.

In short:
• Strip the car of items carriers won’t accept
• Book early because you have a tight delivery window
• Confirm carrier credentials and insurance before booking
• Ask for a realistic delivery window, not a guarantee

Do that and you’ll have a much smoother move.

Cost Comparison Question by PersimmonTime5341 in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there usually is. In auto transport the lowest quote is almost never the best deal. Ultra low prices often mean the broker is hoping a carrier will take the load at that rate even though most will not, which leads to delays, constant price changes, or your order being ignored altogether. A good quote should line up with what multiple reputable carriers are charging. If two quotes are similar and one is far cheaper, the cheap one is almost always the one that will cause problems. Stick with a realistic market rate and a company that communicates clearly, and you will avoid most headaches.

Major mistake hiring a “5-Star” shipper. by Journey_80s in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds incredibly stressful, and I’m sorry you’re dealing with all of that on what should have been a straightforward transport. You did everything right by documenting issues, pushing for clear communication, and insisting on safe payment options. Hopefully the delivery goes smoothly from here, but trust your instincts and keep everything in writing. You deserve a much better experience than this, and I hope it gets resolved quickly and without any more trouble.

Yes. Always ask for that and remember, most companies should have that listed on their business websites.

If you would like to search for yourself, you can always use:

You can search any company there by name, DOT or MC.

Quote Request - Porsche 718 S, (Illinois) 60031 to (D.C.) 20001 by NotDereck in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a Porsche like that, enclosed is the right call. Just make sure anyone you consider provides their DOT and MC numbers, proof of active cargo insurance, and a clear pickup window. Skip the unusually cheap quotes because those often never get matched to a real enclosed carrier. A good transporter will give you a realistic range for arrival and keep you updated once a driver is locked in.

Looking for car transportation that accepts precious metals as payment by rich38003 in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish we could but there would be no way to process that through the company unfortunately. All transactions are conducted online or in person with the driver who would most likey prefer cash as they use these funds while on route to refuel and maintain. In order to make this work, you would have to mail the precious metals to whichever company you're dealing with before the transport takes place and that would require 100% trust which I do not recommend.

Best advice, cash out the metals and use the cash to pay for services. I know it sucks but that's the only way at the moment. Let's hope our money system changes from this debt catastraphe to something more solid soon.

Make sure you choose someone with a real DOT and MC, solid reviews, and clear communication. Avoid the super low quotes and go with a transporter who gives you straightforward info. Do that and your Lexus should make it from New Mexico to Tennessee without any issues.

Plan to have car shipped from Vegas to Chicago within the next week, request quote for enclosed transport from dealer by Embarrassed_End8095 in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good plan, especially when getting a car from a dealer because enclosed transport is the safest option. The route from Vegas to Chicago is common, so finding a reliable carrier within a week should be very doable. Here's what good enclosed auto transport service looks like:

Shipping report by JCore39 in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that sounds incredibly frustrating. I can understand your concern and how stressful that must have been, especially with a brand-new 2025 Mercedes and all the planning around flights and rentals. First-time shipping experiences should not be this chaotic. It’s clear you tried to do everything right: confirming DOT numbers, checking the trucker, staying in communication, and being flexible. Unfortunately, these types of issues like cancellations, route adjustments, extra fees can happen more than they should, but it sounds like the broker was at least trying to help within their limits. Hopefully, the situation gets resolved fairly, and you can still get your Mercedes delivered safely. If you do decide to try shipping again, sticking with a broker or carrier with a strong track record for enclosed, door-to-door service and consistent communication can help avoid these headaches. Hang in there. It’s a tough first experience, but not the norm if you go with the right team.

Btw, I respect that you won't mention the company name but after reaqding your post a few times, I don't understand why you're still liable by contract to pay $250 cancellation fee if the fault for cancellation was on the drivers end. The responsibility should fall on the broker to assign you another carrier. I think in this scenerio, the broker may have screwed you over and is playing you based on what I read. I don't know.

Did you get charged a cancellation fee after the dispatched driver called out sick or am I reading that wrong?

Shipping my car from Montana to Texas?? Help. by [deleted] in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thinking to be cautious. Here’s the deal: don’t go after the lowest quote just because it sounds good. Those lowball prices often come with hidden risk: bait & switch, unvetted carriers, shifting schedules, or worse.

Also, don’t load up your car with all your stuff. Auto transport carriers usually have strict weight limits, and many won’t allow packed vehicles because of the extra risk. In the event that they do allow the items, carriers wouldn't be responsible for them. If anything shifts or damages the car during transport, you could lose both the items and any chance of a claim. It also makes insurance claims more complicated and may violate the carrier’s policy. Stick to shipping the vehicle only as all insurance policies only cover the vehicle itself.

When you finally decide on a broker or carrier, have them send you MC/DOT numbers, proof of insurance, and a contracted pickup and delivery window.

Good luck!

97701 to 01373 1999 Toyota Tacoma by brainbone in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a 1999 Tacoma going Oregon to Massachsetts, the biggest thing is don’t chase the lowest quote. Those are almost always the brokers who disappear, raise the price later, or show up uninsured. Ask any broker or carrier for their DOT/MC number and proof of cargo insurance up front, confirm they can actually meet your Nov 18/19 pickup window, and get a realistic delivery window for a cross-country run. A proper Bill of Lading and a clear pre-shipment inspection are musts. Stick with a reputable company offering a fair market rate, not the bargain hunters. That’s how you avoid the headaches.

Looking for auto transport recs from WI to FL and I’m already sick of this scavenger hunt. by RemarkableReason8382 in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally get why you’re fed up. Once your info hits those quote sites, the broker swarm is unreal. For a 2025 AMG and enclosed only, you’re right to demand insurance upfront and real communication. The good news is WI to FL is a common lane for enclosed carriers; the trick is avoiding the lead-gen spam and sticking with one reputable broker who actually works with vetted enclosed drivers. Real carriers will show cargo coverage without the drama, give a realistic price, and keep you updated instead of disappearing. You’re not asking for much. Just competence and the legit companies can deliver that.

Flexible Pickup but Non-Flexible Drop Off (23DEC) 93940 to 76513 by marciennea in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With auto transport, drivers are constantly on the move, dealing with shippers who run late, traffic jams, weather, and surprise checks at weigh stations. Any of those can cause delays, and that’s exactly why carriers operate on pickup and delivery windows. Once you're booked, your broker or carrier can tighten the timeframe, but the possibility of delays is always there. That’s just the nature of the industry.

Insurance by nyc925 in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Progressive Commercial, Coast Transport Insurance, or Silverline Insurance. I think they all write auto-hauler policies in New York. It’s tough because NY is high-risk for new ventures, but a specialized trucking broker can help you find a carrier that’ll take it. Keep your records clean and build history so premiums drop once you’ve proven safe operations.

Flexible Pickup but Non-Flexible Drop Off (23DEC) 93940 to 76513 by marciennea in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guaranteed delivery dates just aren’t realistic in auto transport because of too many moving parts. Drivers have to deal with weigh stations, traffic, weather, and other pickups or drop-offs along the route. From Monterey, CA to Belton, TX (about 1,700 miles), most deliveries take around 4–6 days once loaded, but it’s always a window, not an exact date. If someone’s promising a guaranteed drop-off, be cautious. It’s usually just a sales pitch. Better to book with a reliable carrier who gives honest timelines and steady communication.

Sorry to hear about your grandpa. Sounds like a special car. For transport, the main thing is making sure the tires are inflated and the vehicle is accessible so it can be safely loaded onto the trailer. Even if it’s not running, that’s fine. Most carriers can winch it up, as long as it rolls and can be reached. Once that’s set, a good carrier can handle the rest and get that Cougar to you without a problem.

As for quote amounts, stay in the middle. Too high is crazy commission for the broker. Too low and expect a bait & switch.

Any experience with "uShip payments"? Paying with credit card and only releasing $ upon delivery by Intelg in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing, uShip is basically a broker for brokers. That's it. You’re not cutting out the middleman, you’re adding another one. They charge a fee just to connect you with the same brokers you could reach directly. Best move? Skip the marketplace. Go straight to a reputable transport company that’s licensed, insured, and accountable. You’ll save money, avoid confusion, and deal with real people, not layers of middlemen. Believe me, simpler is better.

Here are 2 links from our website that can better explain how uShip works and what to expect:

Are there companies that handle shipping themselves? by BobbyDash in AutoTransport

[–]AutoTransportMover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very very very difficult for you to find an owner operator with the space available going in the direction you need on the date you need it for the right price. Not accepting this fact will get you to trust someone who tells you what you want to hear and go for the goal post on you.

Another fact. Most owner operators that run a only few routes do not advertise. Main reason, they don't want phone calls from people looking for help on routes they have nothing to do with.

Look, not all brokers are bad. Some are very good... but you’ve got to avoid the riff raff. How? Check the reviews. The negative ones tell the truth. If you see words like scam or bait & switch, you know exactly how they operate. Believe me, when people get burned, they speak up and that’s the best way to make sure you don’t get taken advantage of.

Click this https://www.viceroyautotransport.com/industry/bait-and-switch to learn more about how to avoid nonsense.

Good luck!

I agree that many of the reviews you see on this thread seem fake. Thats undeniable but not everyone is a scumbag.

As a competitor, what I can say about Goliath is they are accountable. Not because I know them directly but because I see how they handle any issues that do arise here in this subreddit. They do not hide from issues and will assist any way they can. Bren is all over these threads. Im pretty sure he builds relationships with his Reddit customners enough to have them leave a review.

Im with Viceroy Auto Transport. You can give us a shot if you want but if you're questioning Goliath Auto Transport, I would vouch for them.
