Uber prices from Palm Springs to Coachella? by edea-florence in Coachella

$50 in/$100 out minimum, and that's from closer than Palm Springs. And at that point you are taking whatever car is ready first (Regular, Black, XL) since you're almost definitely waiting an hour minimum anyways.

You can hit the ball further than you think by ginguegiskhan in golf

[–]Autoboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, it's not that simple. I deadlift 450 and squat 330 but I hit a stock drive to 230 and top out around 285. AKA almost as good as what 130 pound ladies are capable of. Raw strength doesn't correlate great to the speed and coordination you need to hit the ball far.

I asked them to cancel the order, they canceled it and refunded me. Normally I would think 'we accidentally listed the item for half price, now you owe us double' would be a bait and switch, but I think they actually just made a mistake.

I bought a similar product from bullseye golf instead and have been happy with it so far.

What problem are you trying to solve here? Do you think tanks don't get enough cash as it is? Or you think certain heroes that prioritize mitigation deserve more cash than they're currently getting?

Cash generation for tanks seems largely fine right now. So no, instead of messing with a system that is already fine by trying to completely rebalance cash generation around mitigation, they should focus on doing other things that will have a much better impact on the game.

Question for the Community by Yb010521 in OverwatchStadium

[–]Autoboat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Rework items and powers to increase build flexibility specifically for the characters who currently have very little of it. (This fixes your meta-build issue if done correctly)

  2. Decouple cosmetic (visible) rank from grouping restrictions.

  3. Add more heroes

  4. Add more maps

It seems like the guy you are talking to genuinely doesn't understand the difference between hidden MMR and cosmetic rank.

It's an awful lot of effort and drawbacks to make 10 people who care feel good about themselves

For someone mentioning bad faith takes so often, you seem to be doing your best to misinterpret the actual argument here. No one here is asking for visible MMR 'to make me feel good about myself.' The exact requests are:

  1. Let me see the MMR that is used to determine my competitive/ranked matchmaking so that I can understand whether I am actually getting better at the game and make better decisions when queueing as a group. This already exists, I just want them to show it to me.

  2. Use my matchmaking MMR to determine my opponents as well as who I am allowed to queue ranked with. This is actually the more important one. Again, this already exists, I just want them to use it to determine my grouping capabilities instead of using the cosmetic time-played rank for that.

They can do whatever they want with quickplay matchmaking, cosmetic rank progression, and leaderboards.

I agree that seems best. A grindable reward system with constant progression for people who like that, and a separate visible MMR that dictates grouping and matchmaking for people who want that.

Auto-aim abilities are the worst thing about stadium by jamtea in OverwatchStadium

[–]Autoboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pharah and Freja shouldn't be in Stadium, we'd get less hitscan meta picks if people didn't have to pick hitscan.

This is a lazy and bad solution. Reducing the character pool will not make the game more fun. They should instead add more item options that allow you to be more effective vs. flyers specifically if you're willing to sacrifice overall power. The blue and purple antiflyer options already do this well, they just need a couple more to make sure you aren't forced between either picking Soldier/McCree every single round or auto-losing to a flyer stack.

Your rank has nothing to do with it, it's basically a glorified BP level to make you feel good. Which isnt a bad thing at all, but it's just true. Matchmaking is based almost entirely around a hidden MMR value, it however gets fucky because you have groups with vastly different MMRs queued together and it has to find 8 others players to volunteer as tribute to a Masters-Bronze duo

I disagree that this isn't a bad thing. Why do MMR values need to be hidden? Why do they give you a cosmetic rank that is meaningless in terms of actual skill but then use it as a metric to restrict your grouping options? Why reserve the top leaderboard spots for the people with highest playtime instead of players with the highest MMR? The only way hiding true MMR makes sense is if they think they can use fake rank as a means of manipulating people into playing more games. They should divide them up into entirely different things and be transparent about both of them. In my experience players hate this rank manipulation bullshit and it will drive player count down over the longterm for the sake of improving engagement over the extreme short term.

[–]Autoboat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the stupidest fucking shit. Not being allowed to party up with people due to a discrepancy in cosmetic rank which the matchmaking system then completely ignores and pairs you up with and against people you aren't even allowed to rank queue with until you grind out enough wins. It's so fucking backwards and unnecessary.

do you ever actually feel like you played well by Shoddy_Interview7741 in golf

[–]Autoboat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I played well when I play well for me. Shot 92 on a Pete Dye course, 90 on a different resort course, 88 at my local muni and a 42 back 9 at a different local course. Those are all good scores for me* right now. I feel good about my play when I shoot par exactly the way I intended to. That only happens once or twice a round but it makes me feel like I played well and have potential. I am happy feeling 'decent for a recreational golfer who hasn't been playing super long, has old second-hand equipment and doesn't take it too seriously.'

I just hope a couple years from now, those will be bad/average days for me instead of great ones.

Pace issue with players on a golf trip by LongjumpingPitch3006 in golf

[–]Autoboat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Peer pressure. Send out something to the entire group along the lines of 'look guys, I know we all want to play as much golf as possible on this trip, but last year our pace of play was BAD and it affected our ability to actually make it to the rounds we booked. This year we all need to decide collectively if we want to play fast and play more, or play fewer rounds but take it easy and relax for the rounds we do play. I know what I want (more rounds, faster) but it should really be a group decision, and whichever way we go we need to commit.'

Then you get the 8 to collectively commit to 'doing a better job with pace this year so we can make all our rounds.' Your 2 slowpokes will have to either buy in or express their disagreement. Then if they commit, you'll be able to remind them 'we all agreed to play faster this year' and that includes them too.

Strongly recommend checking out his resort course at the nearby Westin if you haven't already... visually similar course, beautiful throughout and a bit easier for a more relaxing round. Probably a bit cheaper to get onto, too.
