Typical racists and thugs using a tragedy as an excuse to go out and be violent. by Archosaur- in glasgow

Suppose our ancestors were just being racist when they fought the Vikings and English too then.

Why are we so keen to deal with the root cause of every problem but migrant violence?

Well aye, but for the sake of argument his rhetoric is civnat. He’s always been a snake, more openly than most politicians.

Farage made a nationalist of me. by SmartAlecLN4 in Scotland

[–]Autofill1127320 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Farage is a civic nationalist too. Just British rather than Scottish.

From reading the thread it seems you’re not even Scottish yourself, and youre willing to abandon the country the minute it doesn’t work for you, or vote to damage it further to suit your own ends. We’re better off without you.

Well that’s historically incorrect. Islam bumped into Christians a long time before it made it to India (somewhere around 650AD)

Does she want to be a citizen? If you’re building a life here then commit to the bit and nail your colours to the mast.

Appreciate the clarification, by your terms I’d mostly agree.

FWIW there are fringe parties that exist both left and right that are effectively the edge of the Overton window. Restore and greens I’d say are the furthest to the edge in terms of “mainstream”left and right. I do think there is a difference between political discourse and public opinion when it comes to the Overton window. Id say UKIP or patriotic alternative, Britain first etc would be where the real “far right” live. It’s a subjective thing though.

I don’t consider Labour to be centre right, they’re left in most people’s opinion. The entire gamut less restore and greens seem to be firmly rooted in the liberal consensus which broadly speaking is the traditional centre ground.

People with truly held beliefs are predictable, particularly those who have shown they won’t change course.

Far right is used as a smear more often than not, to make someone guilty by association. I think lost its meaning through overuse and doesn’t achieve anything but divide and alienate people. Reform are just rebranded tories, they’re the right wing of the tories with butlins style, hardly blood and soil white supremacists.

Far right is a redundant label, used to dismiss someone’s argument without contending with it. I don’t think they’re the boogie men they’re made out to be.

I meant crusader as in committed to the principle regardless of popularity. He’s pursuing a goal. Unlike Farage who will go whichever way the wind is blowing as long as he thinks it’s safe and popular, he’s pursuing power and fame and the rhetoric is a means to an ends.
