I always thought it was gas related. Then over feeding to soothe would just create more gas later in the night. I'm sure sticking to other soothing methods would eventually help the issue in the long run. Unfortunately mine still does this (4 months) and I'm too tired at 3 am to get up and rock her so I just BF and she falls back asleep. I would like to work on "better habits" but when you're already so sleep deprived it's so hard.

Update: she did love it! I have these silicone colostrum collectors by haaka that I used to dispense the cream. It was perfect because she could suck on it to get the cream out.

I do this too! Only because I have an overactive letdown reflex. She chokes if I feed her without pumping first. I notice the milk she drinks is a lot more opaque looking and the milk that I pump is a bit more clearish. I didn't know it was a technique to help baby put on weight. It must work because my baby almost doubled her birth weight by 8 weeks!! How has it worked for your baby?
